Raymond C. San Diego, CA

About Raymond

I was fortunate to be professionally taught in the Romero style of classical guitar and have studied with great concert artists such as Robert Wetzel, Dr. Alexander Dunn, Celino Romero, Dr. Randy Pile, and Dr. Colin McAllister at Grossmont College, University of California San Diego, and Victoria Conservatory of Music. I have performed in numerous masterclasses including Antonio De Innocentis, Alexander Dunn, Gerd Wuestemann, Scott Wolf, Jason Vieaux, and Celino Romero. I have also performed with various ensembles including the Grossmont, VCM, UCSD, Villa Musica, and SDSU guitar ensembles. While I get quite a bit of enjoyment out of playing the guitar, I get greater enjoyment from passing my knowledge and experience of the instrument along to others. I have been teaching since 1999 ...

I took four lessons so far with Ray and found that he is not only a great teacher but also an amazing guitarist. He corrects my fingering to make it easier and gives me ideas of how to practice certain strums. He also teaches me effective ways how to improve my skills. He is very pleasant and easy to get along with and learn from. Strongly recommended.

Raymond is an excellent guitar instructor.

My first lesson with Raymond went exceptionally well. After listening to me play a little, Raymond immediately honed in on my biggest weakness, and stressed the vital importance of using the metronome to play the Giuliani Right Hand Studies correctly. HIs manner was disarming and he happily answered all my questions as I tried to "pick his brain" with the many questions I had re. technique. Thus, Raymond proved to be a very knowledgeable instructor, carefully analyzing my right hand technique and sharing from his extensive background the subtleties of modern classical guitar technique as opposed to the Segovia and Romero styles. Above all, his amiable demeanor and eagerness to help me become a better player was evident throughout the entire lesson. HIs respectful behavior was very conducive to learning, and I am very excited about my next lesson with Raymond!

Outstanding teacher, highly skilled pro

Ray does phenomenal work teaching guitar as a gifted instructor and inspiring performer. My wife and I cannot stress enough how far our son has come in playing skill as well as overall understanding and appreciation of music. In choosing an instrument, we wanted one our son could take with him wherever might go in life, so as to always have the company of his own live music he could pour himself into. Ray has made that vision true. Absolutely recommended!

About David

After graduating from Salford University, England with a Bachelors degree (Honors) in Music and Composing I worked for a short time as a commercial "jingle" writer, before moving to San Diego, marrying my dream girl, and opening my own music recording, teaching and production studio. From there I have been teaching lessons, recording bands and writing music for independent film ad video games for the last 6 years. Throughout this time I've been continually performing live in venues all over California. *** Lesson Details *** I teach both from a privately rented studio in Santee and from my home studio in La Mesa. Excellent Teacher

Dave is able to work with me, a beginner, and provide me with enough challenge so that I keep learning and also keep interested in drums. He has a great sense of humor along with patience which is important with a teacher whom is teaching a beginner. At times he will also take out a guitar and play along which adds to the fun.

Michael and I have worked together for many years. His playing (on acoustic, electric, and fretless bass) is outstanding, his time impeccable, and his intonation and technique are impressive. Michael holds himself to the highest professional standards and has the respect of all his colleagues. He's always cheerful and encouraging, too - I highly recommend him as a teacher!

I have known and been performing professionally with Michael for many years now. In every musical situation, whether playing in a rock setting or playing a jazz gig
or doing a musical theatre type show, his time feel and musical sensibilities are always spot-on and to top it off, Mike always brings a really positive attitude in all his dealings with people he works with and his students-take it from me, if you're an aspiring bass or guitar student, Michael is the real deal!

I am not a bass player. I am an orchestra contractor who has had the pleasure of working with Michael for several years. He has been my "first call" since the first time I hired him. He is accomplished on acoustic bass, electric bass and fretless electric and I have not found a style that he can't nail including classical. He is always on time, prepared and always ready to make an extra effort in difficult performance situations.

Sharon is an amazing teacher who is patient and extremely knowledgeable. I have learned more in my short time with her than I learned in all of my previous instruction. Her warm personality and strong expertise will make learning the piano enjoyable and rewarding.
Trevor H. El Cajon, CA

About Trevor

Every musician was first and foremost a fan of music. My love of music began when my mother took me to a performance of Beethoven's fifth symphony when, coincidentally, I was five. From that point, I started fervently listening to my mother's records (those are the huge, black monstrosities that people in the pre-historic used in place of iPods), followed closely by my father's CD collection. After a while, this ravenous desire of to know and feel music moved me to play an instrument. After a couple of false starts with the drums and violin, I found my true musical calling: the guitar. On January 25th 1995, on a whim, I began playing the guitar, and I have yet to put it down. Along the way I've picked up a number of friends for my guitar, including the bass, the ...

Trevor is a knowledgeable and capable teacher. I am not a beginning student, I have a degree in music and I have played guitar for many years. I was looking for someone to help take my playing in a different more refined direction. Trevor is excellent. He knew I had an understanding of music already and came to me with a nuanced and exciting curriculum.

He is personable, professional, and most of all, an excellent teacher.

\Trevor is a great teacher--and I hope to pick up the lessons later on after I get done with my doctors. When I started all I knew for sure was that the piano had white and black keys. It's always nice to learn something new. Thanks to Trevor. ED

My 9 year old son has taken piano lessons with Ferlyn since September and she has been absolutely fantastic! He has gotten so much better since that time. Ferlyn is very good about rewarding and stern (not mean) when she needs to be. She has lots of patience. I've never seen her get frustrated or irritated with my son, which says a lot. Most of all my son really likes her!!!!

We are blessed to have two really great music teachers. Don't hesitate to signup for any of her lessons!

I was able to book incredible dance lessons with Ferlyn at the last minute for my friends who needed dance lessons for their wedding. Here is what they had to say:

"We had a little over a week before our wedding and needed to figure out our first dance. We went to Ferlyn for dance lessons. In 5 sessions we had our first dance down! She helped us build confidence in our dance. She is extremely professional and helpful. She allowed us to change up some moves and suggested new moves that would improve our style. We learned a lot of new techniques with great insight. Our first dance went really well and we definitely recommend her!" - Dang & Niki

I've received glowing reviews from them about that experience ever since, and they'll be cherishing that memory forever. I will continue to recommend Ferlyn for my other friends from now on! She won't let you down!

Introduction to Proper Violin Posture
You may feel that learning the violin is all about playing the right notes at the right time. It is – to an extent. Because it affects all areas of violin playing, such as tone, intonation, bow hold and stroke, as well as shifting, all violin technique is built around proper violin posture. If you ignore or forg
Spice Up Your Playing with these Essential Guitar Strum Patterns
