David B.

Lakeside, CA

About David

After graduating from Salford University, England with a Bachelors degree (Honors) in Music and Composing I worked for a short time as a commercial "jingle" writer, before moving to San Diego, marrying my dream girl, and opening my own music recording, teaching and production studio. From there I have been teaching lessons, recording bands and writing music for independent film ad video games for the last 6 years. Throughout this time I've been continually performing live in venues all over California.

*** Lesson Details ***
I teach both from a privately rented studio in Santee and from my
home studio in La Mesa. Both are fully equipped for guitar, bass and drum lessons and even have recording facilities! In my lesson plans I try to combine theory and technique with practical application (that is, playing music and rocking out!).

A typical lesson begins with a warm up and review of last weeks' lesson, and then moves to a new concept or technique. Once this new idea is understood, we give it a practical application by using it a song the student is familiar with. We finish up by setting some homework and answering any questions the student my have.

My lessons are structured and goal orientated (I want my students playing songs they love as soon as possible to keep the inspiration and excitement going!) but I adapt each lesson plan to suit the student, accommodating different musical tastes and learning styles. Most important I keep the lessons fun and engaging - it's the best way to learn!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Fulling equipped, professional teaching studio.
Guitars, drums, amps, PAs, Pianos, Mandolins and much more!

*** Specialties ***
Very versatile both in preferred styles and my ability to adapt to students requests. Can cover anything from jazz to metal, or pop to blues, on guitar, bass or drums.

David is the best teacher for beginnings - he can teach you any beginner level instrument and make learning materials relevant available to you both in and out of class. I am so grateful that I found him to be my teacher - it took me 5 weeks to find a good Mandolin teacher. He is absolutely AWESOME! Knowledgeable, patient, passionate, all you can name. I am excited to follow his lecture and practice more with my new mandolin.

I computer is having technical problems and it sent an incomplete review before I was able to finish it. Please, use this one!!!!!

I found David to be a very pleasant man and easy to get along with. I know he will be the perfect instructor for me. David clearly and easily demonstrated to me the technique that I am wanting to learn. I'm certain that he will greatly improve my guitar playing and make it more fun for me.
Thank you for putting us together,

Mikhail B.

San Diego, CA

About Mikhail

Mikhail helps his students and friends achieve their musical goals within a broad scope of styles, instruments, and genres. He has done so for many years for thousands of individuals through highly established commercial institutions and via private instruction. He is qualified to do so based on his level of expertise determined by his academic degree, and his real world experience verified by his membership with music groups, concerts, gigs, audio/video recordings, and music awards such as his 2014 Best Americana album award at the SDMA music awards in violin and cello.

Furthermore, althou
gh he has the training in traditional classical, he has crossed over to many other styles such as latin, jazz, rock, pop, fiddle, gypsy, Irish, Folk, and many many more with great success.

Mikhail allows the student to pick the direction, and specific tunes they wish to learn. If its an unknown style usually it can be ear-balled and explained. Something he is able to do from a wide range of playing experience. He may also suggest to go through at least 7 of the Suzuki method books for his beginning students. However, he does realize that reading orchestral music and formal classical training is not for everybody and does offer several different alternative approaches.

Mikhail won an SDMA Music Award in "Best Americana Album" for his strings recording contributions to the album "Buried" by Midnight Pine in 2014.

Mikhail carries some of the musical knowledge of Ludwig V. Beethoven who was a teacher of a teacher of Fritz Kreisler the great violinist/composer, who was a teacher of a teacher of one of Mikhail's teachers.

If you are looking for a place to flourish musically, where you won't be judged for your ever-changing musical decisions then Mikhail is the guide for you. Mikhail may bring up a story which goes like so; Stravinsky, Bartok, Gershwin, and Piazzolla flourished under the guidance of Nadia Boulanger, and they did so by nurturing the inner musical self, and making it bloom into its own unique and original artist. Music is a very personal journey, and no two musicians are ever the same.

Mikhail also specializes in Electric VIOLIN, VIOLA, CELLO, PIANO, & FIDDLE.

Some famous examples of his students include Annelle Gregory in the style of classical. Vasi Hunton in the styles of Rock, Pop, Jazz, along with many others in various other styles even fiddle.

Albums Mikhail has played on to take note of:

Last year (2014) Mikhail Recorded violin and cello on an album which won a San Diego Music Award voted best "Americana Album" with a group called Midnight Pine.

"Lion and the Lady" with Trent Hancock released March 2015

"Buried" with Midnight Pine winning best Americana album of 2014 in the SDMA music awards (Violin +Cello)

"Past Forward" with Blaise Christopher Guld also nominated for SDMA award (Violin+Cello)

2 Live Albums from the AUM Dome with Krista Richards (Electric Violin).

Online digital recordings with i-earth music, a corporate world music band.

Some of the groups Mikhail has worked with include:

Sene Africa (world music) (Violin)
I-earth Music (corporate world music) (multi-instrumental)
Trent Hancock (Americana)(violin and cello)
Midnight Pine (Americana)(violin and cello)
Cafe Moliendo (Cumbia/Salsa/Latin Jazz)(piano, violin, accordion)
The Downs Family (Irish Rock)(Irish Accordion)
Busno (Romanian Gypsy band)(Romanian Gypsy violin)

Orchestra Mustachio (Electro Gypsy)(Electric Violin)
Zirk Ubu circus (the circus)(multi-instrumental)
EDM(Dubstep violin) at Downtown Mardi Gras
Lou Fanucci (Italian/Tango)(Violin)
UCSD (modern classical) (violin)
As well as many other local and global living and passed legends of jazz

Mikhail opened for the Eagles with his corporate band, "I-earth" during a private corporate event in Los Angeles, and many other Corporate events such as the grand opening of the Downtown San Diego Hilton Hotel with the Hilton Family. IBM 3000 people at the Natural History Museum. NAMM show executive party at the San Diego Zoo, and many more...

As a professional gigging musician in the world of performing and recording he has also done many hired gun gigs in the styles of Latin, Latin Jazz, Classical, Jazz, Gypsy, Electronic, Rock, Americana, and Pop. Been on KUSI numerous times, and has won the latest 2014 SDMA music awards.

He was taught Violin at first by his Russian Gypsy Uncle, then went on to several other highly qualified mentors throughout his life.

Mikhail is directly family-related to the great jazz pianist, Leonid Chizhik, and other artists such as Alina Dronova and his uncle who directs the Munich Radio Symphony. These are some of the examples of his deeply rooted and priceless qualifications beyond any degree which one can ever hope to achieve. In addition, he has strong ties with the New York City Ballet where his cousin is a dancer and one of the last Russians on the squad born in the same year as George Balanchine's passing. Mikhail has worked on a ballet for the NYC ballet.

As a teen, he became the Concertmaster violinist in his Sophomore year at Poway high school's 150 piece philharmonic orchestra conducted by the legendary Gary Horimoto playing many symphonies such as Beethoven, Mahler, and Tchaikovsky winning first place by unanimous decision in numerous festivals including a grand festival of over 100 high schools held in San Francisco.

Mikhail was concertmaster of the St.Bartholomew orchestra for several years around 2007.

Mikhail later joined the La Jolla Symphony chorus as a vocalist.

Mikhail holds a degree in music composition and performance from UCSD (University of California San Diego) Studying under such mentors including Janos Negyesy (Berlin Philharmonic concertmaster), Chinary Ung (Grawemeyer Award winner), Aleck Karis (film piano), Andrew Infanti (piano), Steven Takasugi (composition), John Fonville (microtonal composition), Edwin Harkins (polyrhythm +world music performance), and Phil Larson (voice).

Mikhail has also composed the first half of the flimscore of a short film "Picture This" for an NBC commercial by Macintosh Film

Individual Instruction 15 years
CCPAA or CAPA Academy for 5 years
Old Town Academy for 3 years
Montessori Schools for 2 years
UCSD for 1 year
National City School District Camp "Wings" for 1 Year

Mikhail currently travels to his students at the comfort of their home.
He is also offering lessons possibly from a professional music store facility in Poway as well.

He knows the instrument inside & out & assesses the student's need without him mentioning it. There is no time wasted here as he focuses in on what is needed.
The student will be very pleased & the money will not be wasted! But the student
does need to practice.

I have been taking flute lessons from Ms. Wilson for close to 4 months now and its been a great experience so far. I had very little idea of music and had no such formal training but wanted to learn flute. She is supportive from day 1 and started to teach me the basics of music and flute. She is very calm, listens to my problems when I don't get some things easily and tries to suggest solutions. She has been very flexible in class timings and adjusts her schedule to accommodate me when I can't make it to the class on some days. I wish I get to learn a lot from her and become a good flutist.

I just love having Ms. Wilson as my daughter's teacher. She is supportive and kind and gives my daughter her full and patient attention during the lesson. She is so encouraging and my daughter has made tremendous progress during her time with Diane. Best of all, now my daughter really enjoys playing her flute. If your child is playing as part of a larger ensemble through school or another program, I highly recommend supplementing that experience with some one-on-one lessons with a private instructor such as Diane. Five stars!

Rebecca is an amazing teacher and exudes energy and passion when teaching our daughter. She is also very patient and understanding of little children's attitude and behavior which I know can be very challenging at times. Our daughter has been learning from Rebecca for the past two years and is not only able to play but explain the music to myself and others (who, I should say, do not have any musical ability). Our daughter has a new found passion for music because of her lessons and I can't thank Rebecca enough for her help and dedication to our daughters learning.
