Hand drumming is so much more than just beating a drum. There is an essence about it that speaks through your soul. Lessons with me will be unique because we will talk about not only how to play and the fundamental tools needed to begin, but we will learn how to listen to those around us in order to have an all encompassing experience. It will be light, fun, informative, and we will go at whatever pace feels good for you, the student! I've been around drumming and drum circles for over ten years now and have come to have a very individual, impactful style for those around me. I look forward to sharing what I know!

About Jessica

Drumming is one of my life’s deepest passions. I was introduced to the art at The Great Blue Heron Music Festival drum circle. I was captivated by the scene: dozens of people creating impromptu rhythms together, on the spot, giving others sounds to dance to around the massive bonfire, all feeling t

Once we learn how to read, nothing can stop us from playing! After that it all depends on what you want to do with your guitar. Classical guitar is a gate to all music genres and music theory will definitely bring your level higher + it gives you confidence.

In each piano lesson, we begin with the basics of note-reading, rhythms, and techniques. Then we put these things into practice using a variety of music styles throughout a series of books, as well as individual pieces determined by the teacher and the student according to the student's level, needs, and preferences.

For younger students I generally use a lot of the Faber Piano Adventures books, along with several of their supplemental materials. I am also well-versed in the Bastien Piano Basics books. For teen and adult students, I use the Bastien Adult or Alfreds Adult piano books, and usually try to include the Fundamentals of Piano Theory as well.

Sarah took my completely overwhelmed daughter, who is struggling with her college ASL class vocabulary, and calmed her, reassured her, and helped her more thoroughly understand her signs. That was just after one 45-minute session. I’m excited to see where this leads, as she has already helped so much!

"First of all I want to say when I read Francesca's profile and saw all of her gifts she was blessed with I knew right away she had so much to offer me, the student! I wasn't sure how online classes were going to turn out since I had never had a lesson online before. Francesca prepped me for an audition and I was amazed at the things she noticed such as posture and body language with my online lesson as well as voice placement. Each lesson with her I have learned valuable material to help me improve in all areas of being an artist! I am blessed for having found her and I highly recommend that you give her a try because you'll be so glad that you did!"

"My son recently decided to play the drums and started lessons with Kevin. He does the online format which works great for him He looks forward to his lesson and enjoys it immensely. So far Kevin seems to be a great teacher who is quite knowledgeable in his craft and patient enough to teach it, especially to a wiggly, middle-school boy."

"Nancy is awesome! I'm so happy I have this opportunity to tell everyone what a really great person and teacher she is. She's really demanding (but in a nice way) and knows her stuff technically, but she's also really encouraging and kind and I feel like she "gets" her students.

I'm going into my junior year at Cornell where I'm studying pre-med, and believe it or not I really feel like voice lessons with Nancy helped me get here. I love singing, but never had much confidence. I started taking lessons with Nancy my senior year in high school and she helped me sing so much better than I ever thought i could. She was really supportive of my song-writing too. I ended up getting a good part in the school musical (I went to a super competitive high school too) and performing my own songs at a couple of local venues.

Then as part of my college applications she suggested that I include a recording of me performing some French art songs by Claude Debussy. Not that I was a classical singer or was even going to study music seriously in college, but my family is French and I really like the poetry of Paul Verlaine. Nancy introduced me to some cool Debussy settings of Verlaine poems. I thought the songs would be way too hard for me, but with Nancy's help I actually sang them really well and did a good recording that I think helped set me apart in my college applications.

Now when I come back home I always have a few lessons with Nancy. (I still compose and perform my own songs) And don't tell anyone, but she's a lot better than any of the voice teachers at Cornell! Not naming names of course."
