Mike taught Leo in person before the pandemic started and has been doing online lessons with him for the past eight months. He is amazing with both. Leo has a very short attention span, but a deep love for music. Mike has been able to hold Leo’s attention every week for over a year — even during online lessons. Leo has become an awesome little pianist, and has developed a love for the piano. It has given him the ability to express all of his feelings and has helped his attention span for his schoolwork. Mike has so much patience, and always inquires about Leo’s favorite activities. He is great with kids and makes them feel so comfortable. Leo loves his “booming voice” and the free play blues music they get to play together every lesson.

I feel very fortunate to have found Ivan, and have benefitted from his instruction in many ways. I began taking lessons with him at the age of 60, as an intermediate piano student. Ivan has a way of understanding your skill level and goals, and teaching you how best to practice on your own. His encyclopedic knowledge of classical music enriches the experience, but he is easily versatile enough to teach jazz theory as well. Ivan encourages performance at recital, and his students are always well prepared. He is an outstanding musician who frequently performs in public. Give yourself over to Ivan’s instruction and improve your technique, understanding of theory, sight reading, and knowledge of classical music. You will enjoy playing the piano more than ever.

If you are reading this review, of course, is because you are collecting information about great piano teachers in your area. If that’s the case, let me tell you that you should stop reading this review and contact Mr. Shapovalov without wasting any more time.

He just left our house, like any other Saturday afternoon for three years now, and every time he leaves, I have the same feeling of putting my son’s musical knowledge in the best hands (ever).

Our son passed this year the Certificate of Merit in Piano with a perfect score, and we thank 100% Mr. Shapovalov for such success.

Mr. Shapovalov is a great pianist, educated, polite, and kind. Our son loves him like he was family, and his performance just gets better and better. It is unbelievable how much he improved working with Mr. Shapovalov.

Mr. Shapovalov organizes recitals, workshops, and pre-tests in order to prepare his students for the Certificate of Merit test. He takes proud in his students’ success and works with our son using multiple approaches, all of them orientated to make the lesson fun and useful, totally aligned with the Certificate of Merit test expectations.

I feel bad it took so long to write a review about this fabulous teacher. I guess I didn’t want to share our “treasure” with anybody else! But seriously: if you are looking for a committed, professional musician, and stellar teacher, all in one person… contact Mr. Shapovalov. Enjoy.

I am DJ and sound producer. And i used to study Harmony and chord progressions with Ivan. He helped me to improve my theoretical and practical knowledge and teached me how to use classical musical theory in modern dance music. I really can recommned this teacher not only for beginners but also for advanced students who have lack of theory base.

Ms. Chris is awesome. My son started taking lessons to see if he really liked the violin about 3 1/2 years ago and fell in love with the violin. I do believe he likes it simply because he has an AWESOME teacher. She pushes him when he needs to be pushed and encourages him to audition for performances. He has done a wonderful job and we highly recommend Ms. Chris Heins!"

"I took lessons with James for about 18 months. Simply put, James is awesome. He is an awesome guitar player, and a fantastic teacher. I started out a total novice at the time of our first lesson. I could barely switch chords in the beginning. When I look back on what he tought me, I totally appreciate the importance of an actual teacher vs self teaching through videos and articles etc. A teacher is totally necessary and James' lessons covered all styles of music, music theory, improvising, and all done on both acoustic and electric guitars. He made learning the guitar easy and fun, which is always what he emphasized - learning should be fun and enjoyable. At the end of the day it is up to the guitar student to practice practice and practice some more - and with that discipline combined with James' instruction and coaching, you will be set up for success."

"Cândida is a very talented and dedicated musician. She clearly also has a passion for teaching since she takes great pleasure in helping students discover and develop their full potential. Simply put, she combines the perfect skills for an effective learning experience. I highly recommend her for anyone who loves music.
On a more personal note, a bit of how I met Cândida. I first started playing piano a long time ago but, after a couple of years, quit and never tried again. I had been willing to get back to classes for a while but hesitated several times. Cândida played a central role in encouraging me to do that and making me comfortable in this new beginning. Our connection was immediate and I have been taking lessons with her since then. During this time, it has also been very inspiring to learn from such a young yet experienced musician. Her method is very practical: although it is naturally easier to interact in in-presence, her Skype lessons really work. She has also been very flexible with regards to schedule. And, most importantly, always welcomes you to class with a bright Brazilian smile.
Again, could not recommend her more! Enjoy!"
