I believe that the most important aspect of learning is a positive and comfortable environment that encourages and facilitates growth! My studio ranges from ages 9 to adult and from beginner to advanced.

Through my own studies I have experienced many different teaching styles and philosophies, and have developed my own method to help my students progress quickly and efficiently.

Every lesson will begin with a discussion about the students practicing so that we can celebrate growth and work together through challenges.

Students will be asked to study technical and tone exercises as well as repertoire that will help them progress in the necessary areas. I will help my students choose pieces that are appropriate and enjoyable.

If a student would like to study a popular song then I will gladly write my own arrangement for them. We can also learn to play by ear and improvise.

For my online students I will record solos, duets, and piano parts to pieces that we cannot play ...

BEGINNERS WILL LEARN: 1. Proper left and right hand, arm, and body positioning . 2. Proper (not common!) pick grip. 3. How to play notes (reading of music suggested but can be worked around) and first position chords. 4. Rhythm focus to play to some of your favorite songs.
INTERMEDIATE TO ADVANCED STUDENTS WILL LEARN: 1.To continue proper positioning (I will remind you... bet on it !) 2. Ear training (very important) 3. Bar chords (you'll hate them initially but they speak the world of you.... you'll get 'em !) 4. Learning and utilization of scales including Minor and Major Pentatonic Scales. 5. Multi-position playing 6. Improvisation utilizing all afore-listed. 7. Incorporating my methods that utilizes a bit of other styles (just a bit) as I have taught such wonderful players I've been sought to create a "next level" Blues Guitarist such as Chris Raabe and Bill Tuthill.... look 'em up (the Chris Raabe Band) for example.

Don was wonderful with our son Brett, who enjoyed his first lesson immensely. We are definitely in this for the long haul with Don! He was very patient and very attentive to Brett.

Had a great first lesson with Don. I believe I will progress nicely under his tutelage. Already have a lot to work on.

Years ago I took Guitar Lessons at a local music store ( a very prominent one) as a raw beginner and quickly became frustrated with my lack of progress. Although my teacher was a great player and "very hot" to look at I soon began to feel like I was merely his "practice dummy."... I'd play the chords he showed me, endlessly,... while he seemed to be just practicing his solo playing. ... I then tried On-Line Lessons from various sites which were actually even less helpful and soon just lost interest completely.
A friend of mine said she had taken lessons from a Don DeBold for about 5 years before going off to college and highly recommended him.
I've now been taking lessons from Don for almost 2 years and having a blast ! I've learned how to play along with most of my favorite songs (mainly Blues and Rock) and now I'm learning to play Solo Guitar that needs no accompaniment !
Unlike my first teacher, during many lessons Don barely plays or even has his Strat on his lap because he's busy concentrating on what I'm doing !
He's a stickler yet lots of fun at the same time> I super recommend him as a Guitar and Music Teacher !!! Aneiah J.

I am about to enter high school and I wanted to improve my acting skills in preparation for my goal to perform in school plays. I came to Shauna to learn acting techniques and skills to improve my acting abilities. I learned so much from Shauna. I looked forward to my weekly acting lessons and the preparation that went into each lesson. Shauna helped me feel at ease, even when doing something new and challenging. She encouraged me to reach outside my comfort zone and the exercises helped me really understand acting. This has been a great experience and I look forward to working with Shauna in the future!

Easily the best voice teacher I've had. I took a break for a long time from singing, and so it's really been starting from scratch. Shauna is an incredible teacher in her ability to not only explain the mechanics of singing, but also tie in the mental pieces as well. I've been working with her for a few months by now, and very excited to see what kind of progress is made as we keep working together.
Carin
I’ve been working with Shauna for the past 5 months, and in that time my voice has strengthened by leaps and bounds. She is an excellent teacher, and I feel lucky to be learning from her. Shauna is warm, insightful, and she has a wealth of knowledge and strategies that she utilizes to help her students. I highly recommend her.

Corinne is a wonderful teacher! She is patient and has such a positive energy. I always leave my lesson feeling better than when I came in. She's very knowledgeable and wants the best for all her students. She can teach any age! I'm a 25 year old beginner and thought it would be difficult to learn and keep up with playing the piano, but Corinne supports and inspires me. I can't recommend Corinne enough.

I have been wanting to play an instrument for such a long time, but never had the motivation to try it, until recently. Wanting to play Piano was a spur of the moment decision for me. I googled piano teachers in my area and Corinne was one of the first people to pop up. After reading all her rave reviews, I decided to give it a go. I was so nervous for my first lesson, but she made me feel comfortable and at ease the minute I walked through the door. She is educated and passionate about music. Also, she is extremely patient. I have been going to her for Piano Lessons now once a week for almost 6 months and I couldn't be happier with my decision. I absolutely, without a doubt, recommend Corinne. She's amazing!

We love Corinne!! My daughter started taking piano with Corinne when she was 5 and she absolutely loves her! Corinne is so patient and kind with the kids and goes at exactly the right pace for each child. My daughter has learned so much and is reading music as she plays - amazing!! Highly recommend Corinne, she's the best!

"Ben was a great first music teacher for my daughter. He taught her the basics of beat and rhythm, proper piano technique and practice methods, all within her young abilities (she started with him around 4 1/2 years old). He was also extremely patient but firm when she got wiggly and tired. He was also always on time and easy to work with."

Dave is able to work with me, a beginner, and provide me with enough challenge so that I keep learning and also keep interested in drums. He has a great sense of humor along with patience which is important with a teacher whom is teaching a beginner. At times he will also take out a guitar and play along which adds to the fun."

Singers, Don't Forget the Most Important Part of Performing!

Out of all the stage presence and performance tips for singers, there's one surprise element that many vocalists forget about. Learn what it is -- and how to improve your own performance -- in this guest post by Davis, CA teacher Steve G... Some people are born with perfect pitch, others with great ability to control the volume and character of their voice, and still others with a natural ebullience and a knack for the spotlight.
