I started playing acoustic guitar when I was seven years old (off and on). I then started traveling more and found the mandolin to be so much easier to carry around and so much fun, it was hard to stop playing it. I have been playing and teaching mostly bluegrass, old time, Irish, blues, and swing jazz styles for many years. I have taught both privately and have also done various workshops at festivals. I have taught multiple years for instance at the Gettysburg Bluegrass Festival in PA, The Traditions week at Common Ground on the Hill Festival in MD, etc
My students learn to have fun with music. Students can work on rhythms, melodies, improvisation, song writing, arranging tunes, music theory, getting into and/or hanging on in a jam session, etc.

About Tara

I have a Masters in Education as well as having spent many years performing, teaching in one on one and group settings both privately and at music camps and festivals. I play and teach bluegrass, old time, Irish, and swing jazz styles. I like my students to really enjoy playing music and their less

It's all about the groove!
As a gigging musician in Nashville, I know how vital it is for a bass player to have great feel. I strive in my bass lessons to give students a foundation of technical skills and music theory, but to also encourage the growth of a student's ear in order to turn them into a functional musician that can play for enjoyment or have the knowledge to step into band or ensemble situations and fit into the groove.

About Chris

Are you interested in being able to confidently play lead and rhythm parts in a band? Want to learn to write songs? Want to learn to just strum along to your favorite records by yourself? I will teach you or your child all of the knowledge and tools needed to do whatever your dream is on your instr

For the better part of my adult life I have been performing and teaching classical contemporary music. "Our family loves Matthew. He's brought music back into our home and even my 3-year-old enjoys being a part of my lessons. I've had my great-grandfather's violin since I was 10, but it wasn't until I started taking lessons with Matthew 3 years ago, that I really started to play and understand foundational scales, key signatures and positions. It's opened up a whole world for me, and now I love playing the violin. For the legacy, the beautiful music and the joy it brings into my life and our home."

The first question they will ask is often, is it hard to play violin?  Learning to play any musical instrument can present challenges to the beginning student. However, much of the difficulty in learning any instrument rests with the student’s attitude. If something is perceived as hard, it can be easy to get frustrated at the first sign of trouble and simp …
