West African drum (djembe) is my specialty. I have been teaching and performing West African music for over 10 years. All ages welcome (toddlers - elders). Students will learn hand technique, specific rhythms from West Africa and create their own as well.

Using voice, body percussion and even movement students will explore, feel and drum in a fun and positive environment. Classes customized to student's needs.

I have studied with teachers in US and traveled to Guinea (three times!) to study with master artists the music, dance and culture of West Africa.

About Yael

I am a teaching and performing artist who loves to play drums. I started out as a clarinet player in the school bands and moved on to drum set in my senior year of high school. With an interest in music from around the world, I found the hand drum (djembe) an instrument that brings people together

Jean-Pierre is a phenomenal piano teacher who really has a true passion for music. He is endlessly patient and persistent - If you want to learn something, he’ll find a way to teach it to you. It's rare to find such a skilled music teacher who can adapt from teaching the smallest fundamental details to the highest philosophical aspects of music. With Jean-Pierre, you are no longer just learning and playing the pieces, you are fully experiencing the music. My lessons with him, and his great sense of humour, were always a highlight. I cannot recommend him enough.

the Impact that Dr C. has had on me as both a musician and a person has been immeasurable. His patience and kindness coupled with his incredible skill have made him an incredible teacher and wonderful person to play alongside whenever he has accompanied me. His drive and desire to always better my playing have made him incredible to learn from and his calming presence has meant that performances with him have always been a pleasure. His personal and caring nature has also made him a wonderful mentor as well as a teacher and he has instilled both confidence within me whenever I play and above all, a deep love for the music that I am playing. I can honestly say that I wouldn’t be half the musician I am today if not for Dr C. incredible input!

Jean-Pierre is truly a unique teacher. His highly personal, practical approach to the teaching of music makes the process of learning both enjoyable and fascinating. His passion for music is evident in his teaching, prioritizing the talents and interests of his students rather than imposing a conventional, one-dimensional syllabus. His skills as a pianist are unparalleled, and my experience playing the cello together with Jean-Pierre (as my accompanist) have been beneficial to my own sound and personality as a musician. Furthermore, as I myself have learnt to play an instrument largely through the use of Skype lessons, I can say with utmost confidence that working with Jean-Pierre through an online medium will both be a worthwhile and enriching experience. Jean-Pierre is by no means a traditional music teacher; rather he is a dedicated and passionate embodiment of what modern music teaching should be!

Angela is a great teacher. She was very patient and helped my daughter gain confidence with Oboe. My daughter made measurable progress in just 10 classes she took. Angela also recommended a good reed to purchase. We will be back soon for additional classes. Thanks

Angela is so great to work with! She's very kind and patient, and the environment created is very comfortable. She has really helped me improve my technique and I've also learned new skills quite quickly. Her understanding of music has definitely helped me dive deeper into pieces and make them more musical.

Overall, Angela is a phenomenal teacher and I've had great experiences with her!

Positive reinforcement, gentle challenging, fantastic explanation and modeling. I've gotten so much more from the sessions so far than I ever anticipated."

I took guitar lessons from Aaron for about 5 years and it was brutal the first year and a half, since it was the first genuine music training/instruction I'd really received in my life.
He was understanding of my beginner status and ALWAYS made sure I had memorized all the basic chords, notes, melodies, etc. before moving onto the intermediate and eventually advanced techniques.
He answered any question I had promptly and with a full explanation, -ex: he'd play the part of a song I had a hard time with, then asked me to play it on my axe, and at my own pace- which was good considering I liked experimenting out harder stuff when I still considered myself just a real good amatuer.
On top of all that he keeps up with the times, so that newest film or game thats come out, he'll know what your talking about. A nice change from the old geezers who I've received music tips from who didn't know what an Xbox is.
The top choice for a guitar instructor if you live in the San Diego area."

"Dr. Stow was knowledgable in all aspects of the saxophone. As an undergrad there were struggles that all students go through, but Dr. Stow had exemplary answers whenever I needed them. He was an extremely relatable professor and always had several solutions to any playing inquiries I had. I would reccommend him as a private instructor."

"Ashley is an excellent teacher! She teaches in a very supportive manner. She is able to correct my daughter in a positive way that gets the desired results, and builds my daughter's self-confidence at the same time. She is charming, fun spirited, and makes the lessons fun. I could go on and on about her beautiful voice, but I will spare you of the long list of amazingness! If my daughter ever decides to no longer do voice lessons, I think I would pay her to come in once a week just to hear her sing! We love everything about her!"
