I began playing piano at the age of 3 1/2 by ear, listening to music of the 1960s such as The Beatles and Broadway musicals. When I was 15, I started 2 years of classical lessons, and, because my ear was so well developed, was given the opportunity to learn Fur Elise by Beethoven at my second lesson. I had begun teaching the piece to myself after hearing it played on a movie soundtrack. I began my studies at Berklee College of Music in 1979, taking jazz piano and vocal lessons, as well as classes in ear training, theory, and arranging, along with various ensembles and labs. Following my years at Berklee, I played in a number of different bands and had a record produced on which I wrote and sang 4 songs, arranged background vocals, and played piano. This recording received Northeast regional airplay and was one of the highlights of my musical career. I have been teaching piano in the Capital District of New York since 1997, with students ranging in age from 4 to 71, and of various ...

I took lessons with Mary Ann Barker for many years. I have learned many pieces with her, including Beethoven’s Für Elise and Piano Man by Billy Joel. She is a great teacher and I highly recommend taking lessons with her for anyone interested in learning piano.

My 2 10 years old boys have been studying piano for over 3 years. MaryAnn is a great teacher and fabulous with kids

I am 61 years old, work full-time and have limited time for practicing. I have had 2 previous piano teachers who do not compare to Mary Ann’s level of thoroughness and patience, and ability to diagnose an issue I am having, offering an easy fix, making learning to read music much easier. Most times, it’s a matter of slowing down, setting the metronome to a slower speed. She does not rush me. I “show up” and she encourages and teaches me to have fun.

As everyone is different with different goals, ages, and levels of proficiency so to is my method of instruction for each individual... Beginners will expect to quickly begin enjoying the instrument without intimidation by it ... they will learn... 1. Proper left and right hand, arm, and body positioning. 2. Proper (not common !) pick grip and angles. 3. Strongly "suggested" reading of music. 4. How to play notes and first position chords. 5. Rhythm focus to play along with all previously listed to some of their favorite songs... An intermediate to advanced Classical student may expect a doses of technique, sight reading, and theory within a particular lesson for say, ABRSM exam prep.. An Intermediate to Advanced Blues, Rock, or Shred student may expect more focus on scale and arpeggio applications for improvisation.

Don was wonderful with our son Brett, who enjoyed his first lesson immensely. We are definitely in this for the long haul with Don! He was very patient and very attentive to Brett.

Had a great first lesson with Don. I believe I will progress nicely under his tutelage. Already have a lot to work on.

Years ago I took Guitar Lessons at a local music store ( a very prominent one) as a raw beginner and quickly became frustrated with my lack of progress. Although my teacher was a great player and "very hot" to look at I soon began to feel like I was merely his "practice dummy."... I'd play the chords he showed me, endlessly,... while he seemed to be just practicing his solo playing. ... I then tried On-Line Lessons from various sites which were actually even less helpful and soon just lost interest completely.
A friend of mine said she had taken lessons from a Don DeBold for about 5 years before going off to college and highly recommended him.
I've now been taking lessons from Don for almost 2 years and having a blast ! I've learned how to play along with most of my favorite songs (mainly Blues and Rock) and now I'm learning to play Solo Guitar that needs no accompaniment !
Unlike my first teacher, during many lessons Don barely plays or even has his Strat on his lap because he's busy concentrating on what I'm doing !
He's a stickler yet lots of fun at the same time> I super recommend him as a Guitar and Music Teacher !!! Aneiah J.

I have over 10 years of teaching experience and teach beginning to intermediate violin lessons. Violin was the first instrument I learned to play and I especially enjoy working with beginning string players. Developing a good ear for pitches and proper playing technique are extremely important for violinists and I focus on these areas foremost. Each lesson is customized for the student’s age, interest, and technical level.

Want to groove on the bass? I am a freelance bass guitarist from San Francisco and I just received my AA in Music from Laney College. I'm working on my BA in Music at SFState and have spent the last couple years touring the country with Bay Area bands such as La Misa Negra, and Bang Data.

I have a deep love for groove-based music, including Soul, Funk, Salsa, World, and Jazz. I love to share my love for music with others and cherish the one-on-one student/teacher mentor connection. I teach beginner and intermediate students the basic foundations, proper plucking technique, slap bass, theory, and how to hold a steady groove that will have you playing with bands in no time. Shoot me a message and let's see if we're a good match!

There are so many colors to the human voice. Unlike most instruments, the human body does not show us what note we are playing or how the air is inhaled in to our stomach. So we end up feeling our way through, using our imagination. This is where the magic happens. In class and outside of it, muscle memory takes its natural course and we begin creating a unique and practical "navigation map" of your voice.

Ariella is an awesome teacher. I’m only on my third of ten lessons and I’ve already learned a ton. She is patient, kind, very knowledgeable, with a high degree of customized direction to my particular voice. There are so many moving parts to producing a vocal and Ariella’s coaching is geared to helping me recognize and understand them. I’m already looking forward to my next lesson.

Ariella is an incredible teacher! In under an hour, she guided me through just about every area of vocal training: we worked on breathing, vocal positioning, different volumes, and singing across the break. I was amazed by the ease with which she integrated my own goals and her pedagogy. She is a kind, compassionate, professional, and extremely skillful teacher. I hope many people get a chance to study with her!

"We've completed 3 lessons with Christopher and I am planning on signing my other kid up for lessons with him. He is on it! He is super patient and helpful. We come from a rigid piano and cello background and my son needed to learn to loosen up for this instrument and he seems to be the perfect teacher to help with that. My son is currently learning ukelele. the first 2 lessons seemed to be great confidence boosters that did teach new skills, but weren't too hard. Now after the third we are getting into harder stuff where my son is really challenged. I love it!!! I highly recommend."

He has sustained my attention for a long time, and has been very responsive to my learning needs (including special projects and questions) while keeping a very clear roadmap for learning music and the instrument.
He obviously has great musical talent, and his explanations and demonstrations are very clear. He has been super flexible and adaptable schedule-wise.
