What is my background?
I am an experienced performing artist and teacher that works in New York and regionally. I have developed a keen ability to assess and shape talent from years of training, teaching, performing, and working with the head of Arts programs to conduct admissions interviews, student evaluations, and performances. I attended Barnard College, Columbia University, and Maggie Flanigan's acting conservatory program. My training at Columbia University and privately with notable musicians focused on classical repertoire and theory, but I also work with students on popular music (i.e. Pop, R&B, Electronica, and Folk).

What material is covered during lessons?
Music theory (i.e. sight reading, chord progressions) as well as posture,
artistic expression, interpretation, breathing, and finger and pitch placement techniques are incorporated into my music instruction. Cold reading, audition preparation and technique, Shakespeare, scene analysis, and business strategies are examples of topics that may be covered in acting instruction. Linklater (voice), Alexander, Williamson (movement), and Art of Practicing (piano) methods are also employed.

What are the profiles of my students?
My students come from different walks of life: children coming from school who bound excitedly to my lesson door; teenage artists who have the passion and vision but lack the technique; working adults who seek reprieve from the stress of work by singing/ learning an instrument that they've always wanted to play; and seniors who want a fun hobby to keep active. I enjoy teaching them and watching them master the fundamentals while developing their own performance style (or even composing their own music)!

What is my teaching style?
Based on feedback, students appreciate that I am a teacher with a warm personality whose supportive, passionate, and fun approach and effective techniques help them attain the following: 1) a firm understanding of the fundamentals of music theory or acting technique; 2) an ability to effectively learn how to perform and practice singing/playing/acting a piece; and 3) a style of performing that minimizes tension, produces beautiful sound or a dynamic character, and/or allows them to fully express themselves. After a few months, students should have sound knowledge of all three.

My students and I connect, in part, because I remember being like them. On stage, I started out dancing and acting; I delved into singing and songwriting and then fell in love with playing the piano. The day that I learned how to merge those passions (i.e. singing while playing the piano) was one of the happiest days of my life! Now, whether I'm performing Shakespeare on stage, playing Chopin and Beethoven, or singing while playing tunes by Whitney Houston, I still get excited. Hopefully, I fuel that excitement in you, too!

What is the lesson structure?
Due to the comprehensive nature of my teaching style and structure, students above the age of 6 take lessons for 60 minutes; 30-minute lessons are only available for children aged 5-6. If a student wants to learn how to play while singing, I am happy to help him/her do so!

My studio location in Manhattan is conveniently near Midtown, Chelsea, Flat Iron, Murray Hill, Union Square, Tribeca, and the Financial District in particular and is easily accessible via public transportation. It houses an upright piano and seating for parents.

Nikole, is very warm and professional. I have never continued with voice lessons, I enjoyed the experience so much that I'm going to kick the bad habit of smoking and sit down and seriously figure my finances out to continue being taught by her. About Gregory
As a younger brother at the age of five, I began studying the piano because my older sister did. After my foundation in music strengthened I fell in love with the trumpet. At first, each note took time to develop and I enjoyed the challenge. The trumpet allowed me to travel all over the Southeast later in life and even to China with a 1940's Radio Show. I enjoyed many top-level bands the kindled my love and passion for good music. I want to share that kindling with my students in a nurturing and guiding situation, just like my teachers gave me.
I used to go to lessons and become so motivated and inspired that I thought I could change the world. I always knew that I would want to give back exactly that. As my performance opportunities grew into venues like Churchill Grounds, The Rialto, and The Variety Playhouse in Atlanta
and Radio City Music Hall, 54 Below, The Jazz Standard, Bowery Ballroom, Shapeshifter and Flushing Town Hall in New York, my fire for wanting to develop my teaching did also. I was always thinking back to what my old teachers gave me, inspiration. I then understood that inspiration is the key to success in life.

*** Lesson Details ***
Lessons will be something the student looks forward to every week. We will work through common method books and learn material that the student has an interest in. For example, some students want to learn to play high notes, a popular song, improvise, or write their own songs. I am a laid back guy, but I do expect effort in the lessons and at home. I believe whatever you put into music is what you get out of it, and I will inspire and motivate the student to get as much out of the lessons as they can. Students will create, with my advisement, and update short term and long term goals every few months.

I have had several lessons so far with Gregory and as an experienced trumpet player can recommend him extremely highly.
I am getting back into the trumpet following a gap after playing for 10 years when I was at high school. Gregory has really helped getting my technique and sound going again, I have been really pleased with my improvement. He has a great demeanour and has been great fun to work with. He is also an excellent player, and is highly reliable and easy to schedule with.

I am a Hunter College graduate with a B.A in Music with concentration on Music Performance and Music Theory. I studied under Professors from well-credited music institutes like Harvard and Yale. I also studied at Teacher's College Columbia University for improvisation in popular music and jazz. My 14 year old daughter loves music lessons from Ophelia. I can say this is the first time my daughter has ever expressed this much interest in music. I was glad I was able to find Ophelia through another friend of mine whose daughter also learns from Ophelia. Whenever Ophelia teaches a new piece of music, she goes over the composer's history with her, teaches the theory behind the piece, and does a ton of musicianship training. The lessons are truly worth their cost. It makes my daughter learn so much, just as if she was going to school. I've got to say, Ophelia is worth her price tag. Anywhere else with this kind of private music training would probably go for at least $100 per 45 minute or more.

Ophelia is truly wonderful for helping my daughter pick up piano again. She is 15 years old and there's a lot of distractions that kept her from practicing piano. Ophelia was able to help her find interest in it again. Her teaching style is truly unique. After my daughter took her lessons she gradually became a better and happier musician and not just play off the books. Lessons are taught very close to Grand Central Station convenient for commuters from Connecticut or Westchester. Not to worry, there is no judgement in my studio, in fact, that is my one rule! The studio is a safe place to take risks and explore with our voices. We will work on the proper breathing for power and control, smoothly singing from the highest to the lowest notes in your range, and extending beyond what you never dreamed possible, how all the muscles in your body affect the sound that comes out of you and how to gently optimize your sound, and how you affect your sound by your thoughts feelings and emotions. You are your instrument! In three months you will feel you have a voice you never dreamed you could have.

I have over 20 years of professional experience and training with masters. Eileen Farrell, who was one of the greatest voices of the 20th century. Conrad L. Osborne, Opera Critic for world renown musical publications such as Opera News and High Fidelity.

Somatic Voicework The LoVetri Method takes registration understanding to another level and combined with resonance work to take the chest voice up into the head voice fo a healthy Broadway sound.

The McClosky Technique offers the anatomical understanding and affect of the extrinsic muscles of the face, jaw, throat, neck, tongue and alignment, and how these elements affect the smooth functioning inside the larynx.

I incorporate these styles into my own method of approaching the voice by equally addressing Breathing/Registration/Resonance/ Relaxation, and Mind/Body/Emotion.

Sue Anne is wonderful!

I came to New York for school and to further my training and aspiration to pursue musical theatre. I saw Sue Anne's ad in Hunter College. Her work focuses on how to sing naturally, something I have always tended to struggle with. I often found myself losing my voice the night before my musical's opening night, because of my constant belting and lack of a balanced relationship between my head voice and chest voice. After being with Sue Anne for a few months, my voice has felt and sounded much healthier! I have gained knowledge of the parts of the body involved in singing and especially breathing, and now instead of wailing away at any high note, I am singing with more ease. As an active soloist and orchestral musician, Sarah has performed with orchestras such as the Boston Pops Orchestra and the Brockton Philharmonic, and such esteemed ensembles as New York Classical Players, the Poisson Rouge Ensemble, Shattered Glass, and The Moirae Ensemble. She was recently named Laureate of The Mozarteum Summerakademie for her performance of Lera Auerbach's T'filah.

Sarah began her solo career in 2005 with the Lowell Philharmonic Orchestra, and has since enjoyed performances with the Boston Pops Orchestra, the Brockton Symphony and Quincy Symphony Orchestra, and frequent appearances with the Lowell and Waltham Philharmonic Orchestras.

As an orchestral musician, Sarah was Concertmaster of the Juilliard Orchestra, as well as a member of Axiom Ensemble and The New Juilliard Ensemble. With her ensembles, she has wo
rked with innovative composers such as Steve Reich, John Adams, and Richard Danielpour. Sarah has been invited to perform at Symphony Hall and Jordan Hall in Boston, Alice Tully Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, Carnegie Hall, and many other concert venues in the New York Tri-State and New England areas.

Sarah is the violinist for The Moirae Ensemble, with whom she joined in 2013. She has since performed solo and collaborative recitals with the group in New York and Boston, featuring contemporary female composers. Sarah looks forward to returning with The Moirae Ensemble in the 2014-15 season and eagerly anticipates joining Barnard College's award winning concert series in the 2014-15 season.

Sarah also regularly performs and records with rock groups such as Jesse Malin, Pete Pigeon, Quentin Angus, Shsha, and her own bands, American Dream and Uzi & Ari, with whom she is releasing a much anticipated fifth album in 2015.

John Kun Park is a recent graduate of the Mannes School of Music. He completed studies in Operatic Performance at SUNY Purchase. John will be joining the Sarasota Opera's Apprentice Artist program in the beginning of 2018.

The 2016-17 season found John in his final year of Artist Certification at the Mannes School. He was the tenor soloist in Händel's Messiah in Manhasset, NY, and then appeared as Anatol with Mannes Opera in their Spring production of Barber's Vanessa. He placed as one of six finalists for the New Jersey State Opera's Alfredo Silipigni competition shortly thereafter. John was invited to Central City Opera as an Apprentice Artist for their esteemed Bonfils-Stanton Young Artist Program. He was cast as the cover of Don José for the season of Bizet's Carmen, and debuted as Don José for the company's Apprentice produc
tion.

The summer of 2016 found John in the Dolomites of Italy, appearing as Don José in Bizet's Carmen under Music Academy International's affiliation of the Trentino Music Festival, under the baton of Christopher Larkin and direction of David Gately. He appeared a finalist in New York's Joy of Singing competition in the Spring of 2016, and was hired to cover Don José for Venture Opera's winter production of Carmen.

During his time at SUNY Purchase, John appeared as Le Prince Charmant in Massenet's Cendrillon, Eisenstein in J. Strauss' Die Fledermaus, and Lysander in Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream. His studies while in Los Angeles found John appearing as Des Grieux in Massenet's Manon, and B.F. Pinkerton in Puccini's Madama Butterfly under the Opera Gang company.
