*** Lesson Details ***
In addition to the fundamentals (Tone, Rhythm, Technique, Ear-Training, Sight-Reading), I also like to tie-in music theory, composition, and improvisation along the way. I believe in setting short-term, mid-term, and long-term goals that are specific to the student and their needs and wants. I also believe in the benefit of having the student bring in songs or materials that they are interested in, and designing lessons around their interests. I am patient, creative, and willing to move at any pace that is right for you.

Through my experience as an educator I understand that every student is different, and therefore, my job is to guide and facilitate learning, while making the process as enjoyable as possible! My approach is customized to bring out your strengths and interests, while also ensuring that you have a solid foundation on your instrument. In addition, I am professionally trained in both jazz & classical music, and I perform regularly with working bands of all types and genres.

I am a classically trained cellist in NYC. I have a master's degree in cello performance from a top NYC conservatory. In addition to performing music, I love to teach cello lessons to aspiring musicians of all ages! My musical aspirations stem from an undying love of music and my wish to share this with others. *** Lesson Details ***
My teaching pulls from the Suzuki method and the great cello pedagogue Irene Sharp. I emphasize ear-training and a physically relaxed and technically accurate approach to cello playing so that students are free to create music without limitations or physical discomfort.
Though playing an instrument takes hard work, it should be a fun and e
njoyable experience too! We will work together to ensure that you or your child are learning pieces that interest you and inspire you to reach the next level. By the end of each lesson you will know what to work on for the week and exactly how to practice in order to achieve the most effective results.

Students will learn the fundamentals of music theory and history while focusing on improving their technical facility on the cello. Students also work towards building their comfort with the instrument by practicing increasingly complex exercises and repertoire. Each lesson students practice ear-training and sight-reading so they are prepared for auditions and can learn music more quickly.

Lessons will be age appropriate, highly interactive, and geared towards your/ your child's personal goals as an aspiring cellist.

*** Equipment ***
For lessons at my home, students only need to bring their instrument and their current repertoire.

For lessons at the student's home, students need to provide their own instrument, a music stand, 2 chairs, and the repertoire we are working on. I will bring my own instrument to lessons.

I can assist you in renting a cello if you do not already have one.

About Luba
A native of St. Petersburg, Russia, Ms Luba S. started playing piano at the age of 6 and continued her musical studies at Mussorgsky School of Music and later at St. Petersburg State Conservatory. Her concert appearances in Russia included performances with orchestra and solo recitals at St. Petersburg State Capella, Philharmonic Hall, and Rimsky-Korsakov State Conservatory Hall.

Upon moving to the United States in 1989, she worked as a vocal accompanist at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music while pursuing her BS degree in Computer Science. From 1996 she participated in the series of Master Classes at International Summer Festivals such as Holland Music Sessions, Nice Festival Academy, studying with Boris Berman, Brigitte Engerer, Menahem Pressler and performing in the frame of above mentioned festivals.

Luba made her Weil Recital
Hall debut with the Zephyr Duo as a prize winner in the Artists International Competition. Both as a solo artist and chamber musician, she has performed throughout the Metropolitan New York area in venues such as Trinity Church, Mannes and Manhattan Schools of Music, the Connell Library, Drew University, Watchung Art Center, Summit Presbyterian Church, Atlantic Highlands Chamber Music Series and others. Her performances also included appearances at Lacawac Sanctuary, Lake Ariel, PA, Solstice Festival at Kimmel Center in Philadelphia, Benefit concerts for New Sussex Symphony, Bucks County Symphony and NJ Symphony orchestras, as well as chamber music recitals at Livingston Music Club, Women's Club in Glen Ridge, Temple University.

Ms. S. currently maintains a private piano studio. She is an active member of Music Educators Association of New Jersey and sits annually on a panel of judges for the association.

Teaching Philosophy:

I believe that learning to play an instrument should be an integral part of every child's education. Music enriches emotional and intellectual development, provides a source of joy and fulfillment. My teaching philosophy is based on emphasizing individuality of each student. I teach students ages 5 through adult, and try to find a way to make it interesting, exciting, intellectually stimulating and rewarding for each individual.

- I incorporate elements of Suzuki method into my teaching for young beginners combining it with traditional Russian school methods and various others depending on student's needs.

As an adult beginner student, I was a bit nervous about starting lessons past childhood. However, I enjoyed playing the few tunes I did know and decided to begin lessons with Luba because of the other outstanding reviews she has online. I am very delighted to say that these are all very true, and I could not have been happier with my experience.

From the first lesson, Luba quickly identified my strengths and weaknesses and was able to provide just the right personalized guidance for me to expand my abilities. That first lesson left me with so much more than I had come in with that I was amazed at how manageable Luba was able to make the piano. Enthusiastically, I practiced the pieces at home. At the studio with Luba, I discovered just how talented of a player and teacher she is. Without even looking at me, she identified the things I was having trouble with in every piece. Her playing reinforced my knowledge of the pieces. I particularly enjoyed how she emphasized the musical quality and "feel" of each piece, rather than just the technicalities of the sheet music.

Unfortunately, I had to end my lessons after six months because I was moving out of the state. In such a short amount of time, though, I can now read sheet music at a reasonable pace, understand basic music theory, and most importantly know how to practice. All of these I can only attribute to Luba. She has transformed a mildly interesting instrument into one of my most beloved lifelong hobbies.

It is with great pleasure and with no reservations whatsoever, that I can recommend Luba as a piano teacher for both children and adults. Although her curricula vitae speaks for itself in terms of her qualifications and experience, it is the personal qualities of a teacher that are of the utmost importance in developing a student/teacher relationship that brings out the fullest potential and desire to learn of the student. Luba's warm and kind demeanor belies her exacting requirements of her students. As a pianist who has attended Luba’s student recitals, I am always impressed to see how well-prepared and confidently they perform. Even the beginners play with beautiful phrasing and musicality. "Mrs. Luba" has come to be one of the most positive role models in our daughter's life. Over the last two years, Luba has instilled in our daughter (now aged 8) a deep appreciation and love for music and an understanding of the importance of setting goals.

In addition to her obvious rich musical knowledge, Luba is enthusiastic, caring, warm and understands how to teach. She has worked with my daughter on troublesome topics and knows when and how to challenge her. She makes each and every lesson fun while creating a real sense of accomplishment. Lessons are taught very close to Grand Central Station convenient for commuters from Connecticut or Westchester. Not to worry, there is no judgement in my studio, in fact, that is my one rule! The studio is a safe place to take risks and explore with our voices. We will work on the proper breathing for power and control, smoothly singing from the highest to the lowest notes in your range, and extending beyond what you never dreamed possible, how all the muscles in your body affect the sound that comes out of you and how to gently optimize your sound, and how you affect your sound by your thoughts feelings and emotions. You are your instrument! In three months you will feel you have a voice you never dreamed you could have.

I have over 20 years of professional experience and training with masters. Eileen Farrell, who was one of the greatest voices of the 20th century. Conrad L. Osborne, Opera Critic for world renown musical publications such as Opera News and High Fidelity.

Somatic Voicework The LoVetri Method takes registration understanding to another level and combined with resonance work to take the chest voice up into the head voice fo a healthy Broadway sound.

The McClosky Technique offers the anatomical understanding and affect of the extrinsic muscles of the face, jaw, throat, neck, tongue and alignment, and how these elements affect the smooth functioning inside the larynx.

I incorporate these styles into my own method of approaching the voice by equally addressing Breathing/Registration/Resonance/ Relaxation, and Mind/Body/Emotion.

I am a certified Energy Healer with over 10 years of study and practice in this area. I am very aware of the energetic aspects of an individual, and utilize that knowledge to enhance the learning process.

Great Teacher!

Sue Anne is wonderful!

I came to New York for school and to further my training and aspiration to pursue musical theatre. I saw Sue Anne's ad in Hunter College. Her work focuses on how to sing naturally, something I have always tended to struggle with. I often found myself losing my voice the night before my musical's opening night, because of my constant belting and lack of a balanced relationship between my head voice and chest voice. After being with Sue Anne for a few months, my voice has felt and sounded much healthier! I have gained knowledge of the parts of the body involved in singing and especially breathing, and now instead of wailing away at any high note, I am singing with more ease. Sue Anne is an amazingly talented, knowledgeable and lovely teacher and person. I am ecstatic to have met her, and look forward to hopefully what will be many more months of lessons!

Greetings to my future music students,

My name is Nate! I'm a professional world touring and recording percussionist/drummer/musician. I started drumming at the age of 10 after seeing Animal from The Muppets battle Buddy Rich. I would practice everyday after school and was asked to join high school marching and Jazz band while still in middle school. By the age of 16 I was drumming with local Jazz and Rock bands at clubs and festivals. I also toured nationally with Drum and Bugle Corps Spirit of Atlanta while I was still in high school. After graduating high school, I started teaching while attending Saint Petersburg College for Music Performance. I have had the pleasure to have performed, toured internationally and recorded with many diverse bands from the year 2000 to 2016 (see Experience) In 2008-09, I performed with Austral
ia's renowned dance company Burn The Floor at Bush Gardens Tampa. I moved to LA in 2010 to further my skills at Musician's Institute PIT. I toured with LA based bands The Red Elvises and Street Drum Corps in 2011. That same year, I received a call from Revolutionary Rock Band Outernational to tour Nationally and Internationally headlining and supporting bands such as The Wailers, Flogging Molly, Las Manos de Filippi and Manu Chao. In 2012, I settled in NY to establish myself and my musical roots in between time touring and also taught at School Of Rock Manhattan as a sub. Over the years, I've helped many students learn how to read music, establish proper technique, coordination and time skills, and how to play some of their favorite songs from some of their favorite bands! My experience with Anthony has helped me to push myself to limits that I could have never imagined, He has given me monologues that i would never have had the courage to even attempt. From our first meeting he fully immersed himself into getting to know me as a person finding out my strength and weakness as an artiste.
He has shown me how very important it is to have technical training, that it can only enhance the natural talents that I have. He is caring, stern in the fact that he makes you work the full time you are with him.
