“Basically he’s the go-to cross-genre horn-blowing utility man of the Philly scene” (John Vettese). Vince Tampio is a professional trumpeter, arranger, composer, and multi-instrumentalist based in Philadelphia, PA. Although firmly rooted in jazz, he is comfortable with a wide variety of genres including rock, soul, funk, folk, classical, and electronic.

Vince’s most recent solo album Live at PafA (2017) “is a contemporary instance of fusion done right,” and whose “nontraditional instrumentation maintains a spacious environment that proves ideal for a set brimming with imaginative, drawn-out improvisation” (Matthew Aquiline). This project was recorded as part of HotHouse at PafA After Dark: a concert series of the Philadelphia Jazz Project. Live at PafA was preceded by Syzygy (2014) and Syzygy: Remix (2014). Vince is currently self prod
ucing four more solo albums. One unreleased composition was recently featured in The Philadelphia Real Book Volume 1.

Vince has appeared as a side man on more than 25 albums. He is the trumpeter and arranger with the York Street Hustle, the John Byrne Band, the Cat’s Pajamas, and You Do You. He is a founding member of the Philly Phatness horn section, which has recorded with regional, national, and international artists, and on film soundtracks. Vince also writes and arranges for the Uptown String Band, a member of the Philadelphia Mummers String Band Association.

Vince earned the Masters of Music degree in Jazz Performance from the University of the Arts; and earned the Bachelor of Science in Music degree concentrating in Jazz Studies and Theory & Composition from the State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz. He studied trumpet through undergraduate and graduate school with Rebecca Coupe Franks, Dennis Wasko, and John Swana. Vince has also attended master classes held by Matt Gallagher, Craig Morris, Claudio Roditi, Malcolm McNab, Scott Holbert, Jeffrey Curnow, and Alison Balsom.

Vince first began teaching music in 2006 as the trumpet instructor at Silver Creek Central School. He directed trumpet master classes for high school students. Vince later took on various private students teaching trumpet, guitar, electric bass, improvisation, and arrangement and composition. While earning his Master of Music at the University of the Arts, he served as the trumpet department intern and was responsible for teaching private trumpet lessons, preparing transcriptions for class materials and live performances, and proctoring music theory exams.

Also at UArts, Vince was a teaching assistant for the Freshman Jazz Improvisation class for which he conducted sectionals, administered exams, and offered critiques regarding inventiveness of improvisations. He currently teaches a number of electric bass students at Philadelphia's Rock to the Future. Vince privately teaches trumpet, electric bass guitar, ear training, music theory, improvisation, arrangement, and composition to students of all ages and levels.

Since each student approaches music differently; I tailor my teaching to fit their approach. I ask each student, "What are you aiming to accomplish?" Together, we set short and long term goals. I believe a strong technical foundation leads to freer ease of artistic expression. My students receive a holistic approach to music applicable to whatever instrument of their choice.

My name is Victoria. I'm originally from beautiful San Diego, California, but I am now a full time professional musician based out of Philadelphia. I've instructed students (of varying ages and backgrounds) from all over the country on bass, guitar, live performance, and song writing. This includes one-on-one instruction and group lessons. I received a certification in live performance, studio work, and songwriting through The Contemporary Music Center, now located in Nashville, TN. And I I Finished my Bachelor's degree at Eastern University

I've toured all over the country with acts such as Talain Rayne and played bass on his album "Attic Lights." I also completed an internship in Nashville, TN with hit songwriter, Kate York.
For the past five years, I've played with the band Element K (under Shore Bets booking agency) as the lead
singer and guitarist. I've played shows all over the Northeast including (but not limited to) Xfinity Live, Wells Fargo Center, Hard Rock Cafe, The Tin Angel, Borgata AC, Ballys, Tropicana, and Seacrets in OCMD.
I love music and the role it has played in shaping my life. I value the experiences and wisdom passed on to me by my music mentors and instructors, who not only had a meaningful impact on my music career but also immensely influenced my development as a person.

I like lessons to be, first and foremost, an enjoyable experience for everyone involved. I try to create a laid back and comfortable learning environment for all my students. Music is fun, and I guarantee that there will be plenty of good times while taking lessons!
Now, let me also clarify that my positive attitude and laid back demeanor are not excuses for students to be undisciplined and uncommitted. I promise to work hard toward your development as a musician to make you the best you can be, and I appreciate the same commitment from all of my students.
Music should be enjoyable, but also rewarding and enriching to your life! I don’t want to sell that short!

Below is a basic rundown of what a student can expect to learn while under my instruction. I would first like to preface this information by saying that I fully recognize that every student is different; therefore, I tailor lessons to fit an individual’s needs and goals. Because of this, the priority of certain skills tends to vary from one student to another, as does the order in which this skills are taught. I also want to note that I tend to use some self-made resources (charts, explanations, etc) in addition to published books. Taking into consideration the aforementioned variables, here is the basic rundown of the material I try to cover with students, in the general order it is taught:

-Understanding of guitar parts (anatomy of the instrument) and basic terms (ie note, chord, etc).
-Names of strings (E-string, B-string, etc.) and corresponding numbers for strings (1-6), and which fingers are given what numbers.
-Tuning of the instrument
-Basic technique (how to finger a fret board, hold guitar, hold pick, etc).
-How to find notes on the fret board/chromatic
-Basic rhythm concepts and counting (whole notes, quarter notes, time signatures, etc)—usually involves clapping exercise, single note playing exercises, reading rhythm charts, and learning what different note values look like.
-Basic concepts of “keys”
-Basic major and minor scales (especially for “warming up”)
-Chords (mostly basic open chords)
-Strumming
-Learning songs to put concepts together
For more advanced students, we will likely get into the following:
-Power chords, bar chords, and complex chords beyond majors and minors.
-Scales beyond basic majors and minors
-Music theory (chord construction, modes, etc).
-Knowledge of gear (for those guitarist who wish to branch out to electric guitar)—bass players will already have to know some of this before moving to more advanced work since they already require an amp.
-How to play with other musicians and instruments (collaboration, listening, understanding each instrument’s part, etc).

[To give students a basic timeline for these skills, one can expect to be playing open chords within three months and probably their favorite songs within 6 months]

SONGWRITING TEACHING METHODS:
-Review slides about basic song structure and anatomy of songs (verse, hook, etc)
-lyric and vocal phrasing
-finding your voice as a writer
-exploring environments and conditions that foster one’s creativity for writing songs (preference for outdoors, quite secluded spaces, etc).

LIVE PERFORMANCE:
-Breathing/relaxation exercises
-Movement/watching footage of self
-Watching footage of others
-Acting/stage exercises to get out of your head and into your body
-learning common problems with live performances and becoming comfortable with fast, on-the-spot trouble shooting (and how to avoid some problems before they begin).
-Finding your stage voice, both in singing and speaking.
-Developing your stage persona

Hello! My name is Charlea Lyn, and I want to begin by thanking you for taking a look at my profile. It has always been one of my firm beliefs that anyone can sing as singing can be defined by “uttering words or sounds in succession with musical modulations of the voice.” Therefore, with this mentality in mind I feel as though it is not a job, but more a privilege to be able to teach people to sing.

My parents say I started singing before I could talk, however, I seriously started taking lessons when I was 14. Over the course of my lessons, I fell in love with opera, and decided that was what I wanted to pursue as a career path. That decision led me to SUNY Fredonia, where I received my BM in Music Education and Vocal Performance, and later to the San Francisco Conservatory of Music where I received my MM in Vocal Performance in May
'13 under the tutelage of Catherine Cook.

One of the most important things that I have learned thus far, is that singing is a truly expressive art form that requires hard work, diligence, and commitment. It is my goal to bring each of my students the farthest I can in healthily developing their technique as well as work on the emotional portrayal and fundamental building blocks of music. Although I teach each student specific to his or her individual needs and desires, my lessons usually consist of three parts - technique exercises, sight singing, and repertoire. Furthermore, other things that stay consistent are a comfortable and safe environment for the student, my undivided attention, all the information that I have to share with others, and most importantly FUN!

Although it is my personal decision to pursue opera and classical music, I have experience in musical theatre and am comfortable teaching a variety of genres. I truly believe that although each genre is different, the foundation and principles of healthy singing are the same.

Not every teacher is right for every student. However, I do my best to give all my students lessons in a comfortable and productive learning environment. Charlea is OUTSTANDING. Cant say enough about her professionalism and personality. She makes you feel comfortable and confident - no matter what level of singing you are at. My name is Gary. I started out playing the Bagpipe in High School as we were the "Highlanders" and had a bagpipe band as part of the marching band. I competed in solo competitions played my way to the top. As I will be 60 this year, I have been playing for 45 years and teaching full time for the last 20 years. I am very fortunate to be making a good living doing work that I love to do.

You need 3 things to learn the bagpipe. The first thing that you don't need is a set of bagpipes to get started. That purchase happens with most of my students between the 8th and the 12th month of lessons. My average student will spend between $1500 and $2000 on their pipes. Start saving now. The only thing that you need are a Practice Chanter, a book and 30 minutes with me once a week. I have the Practice Chant

I am a computer science student and musician at Bryn Mawr College. I have been playing music for 12 years and teaching for 4. At college, I am principal viola of the Bryn Mawr-Haverford Orchestra and I also am part of a chamber music group. In high school, I was in the Maryland All-State Orchestra for four years and was in the Maryland Classic Youth Orchestra (MCYO), one of the most prestigious orchestras in Maryland, for four years. During my summers, I attended the Interlochen Center for the Arts high school music program. I have been taught by musicians from the National Symphony Orchestra and National Philharmonic.
My students improve significantly since when I first meet them. One of my first students whom I now give Skype lessons to successfully got into one of the best orchestras in the DC area and is now principal (1st chair) of
the viola section of that orchestra. I use a comprehensive set of books that teach theory, rhythm and pieces that I use to teach students how to prepare and perform "performance ready" pieces.

I am a professional cellist, skilled in all solo, chamber, and orchestra settings. Growing up, I studied with a Philadelphia orchestra cellist who prepared me for conservatory auditions. After being accepted into all 7 universities and conservatories I applied to including the Juilliard School, I decided to go to the Cleveland Institute of Music where I got my Bachelors of Music in cello performance. I studied with the former principal cellist of the Cleveland Orchestra, and also with one of the best Suzuki pedagogues in the country. I, then, got a Masters in Music in cello performance
from Northwestern University's Bienen School of Music. There, I studied with one of the most internationally renowned cello professors in the world who has shaped me into the musician I am today. In addition, I got my Suzuki Certification in all 10 levels of cello books after completing a 2 year year rigorous Suzuki pedagogy program.

In my second year at Northwestern, I won a fellowship, covering my full tuition and acceptance into The Civic Orchestra of Chicago. This is the apprentice orchestra under the Chicago Symphony. We worked with all the conductors that came in to play with the symphony. Yo Yo Ma, the most famous cellist of all time, is the creative consultant for the Civic Orchestra and we got to work with him 4 or 5 times a year.

I have traveled and performed with my string quartet ATLYS representing Lincoln Center in New York City. We have traveled around the world playing crossover music, where we play arrangements of pop, jazz, folk, traditional, rock, indie, alternative, rap, but always return to the forever-beautiful classical quartets, as well.

Because of this, I have learned to play extended techniques on the cello and learned different styles of playing, like Celtic gigs and reels and cool jazzy bass lines. I think this is a fun unique quality that I can add to a student's cello development when studying with me.

I arrange music for string quartet, too. I think it's important for my students to also learn some basic music theory as it can develop a student's understanding of music at a much deeper level. This can make a student appreciate how a piece is created and where a phrase needs tension or where it needs to be released. It's very important for their musicality.

Genevieve taught me the most I’ve ever learned about the cello in a mere two months. Through her I was able to move through an entire Suzuki book while also learning every scale (including chromatic) without using open strings. The techniques she taught me helped further my music that I still use today. Before studying with her I was fourth stand in my high school’s orchestra. By the end of the Summer I was able to achieve first chair and all of the offered solos.

Ms. Tabby's the best! I highly recommend her to anyone who loves music and wants to learn how to play the cello. I studied with her for a few years in Chicago and she was the most patient, kind, and dedicated teacher I have ever had. I improved so quickly while taking lessons with her, AND I had fun while doing it. If you're looking for a great teacher with a kind heart and a brilliant mind, look no further!

Genevieve is a fantastic teacher! She is very kind, caring and really tends to the needs of every individual student to make them the best they can be! I would highly recommend her as a cello teacher. I learned so much and every lesson was an absolute blast!
