I am an extremely patient instructor that emphasizes attention to detail. I teach elementary school music normally so I’m used to focusing on and mastering the basic concepts. I have taught private lessons for trombone, euphonium, tuba, Horn, trumpet, and saxophone for the past five years. I believe that my large variety of teaching experience allows me to adapt my style to fit any needs that a student may have.

About Kevin

I do a little bit of everything. I’ve taught kindergarteners to make their first sounds on instruments and I’ve put high school students in all state bands. I’ve done jazz, classical, orchestral, small ensembles, choirs, and much more. I describe both my playing and teaching style as flexible and m

Cant say enough good things about Joel. He doesnt get frustrated when I don't grasp a concept he breaks it down to where I can understand and work through it. Works to play what I'm interested and what I really want to play. I thought going to learn an instrument at 27 would be rough but it has been fun and enjoyable.

"“If you can sing opera you can sing anything.” This is something I learned while taking vocal lessons with Ted Dougherty. Many voice teachers aim to silo you into one style of singing but that is not the case with Ted. He will help you build your voice to be the strongest it can be while encouraging you to practice and sing the types of music you are passionate about. Ted is an extremely talented musician who not only has the knowledge to teach you new techniques, but also has the ability to demonstrate those techniques. I started voice lessons with him when I was 12 years old and only ended my lessons with him when I went away to college years later. I truly believe, were it not for my lessons with Ted, I would not have the quality voice I have today. If I lived anywhere near Raleigh, NC, nothing would be able to stop me from going for voice lessons with Ted as often as possible."

"I have taken a few classes with Shauna, the first two being acting classes, and the third a strictly-voice-oriented class. All have been great. The voice class I took with her was a group class that was only one session long, so I can't really comment on how effective the exercises were, as I believe one would need to practice more regularly to notice the effects! However, Shauna is a great instructor and I really enjoyed the class—especially learning some techniques that could be used in a routine vocal warm-up. The atmosphere was friendly and focused. I would definitely recommend her to anyone looking to improve clarity, volume, and connectedness in regards to their voice."

She also motivates my daughter to perfect classic Academy Award-winning ballad music like EY Harburg 'Over the Rainbow'. Great use of technology to keep my child practicing with in-home (in real time) singing lesson sent directly to my email for my daughter to listen during her practice. "Joe taught my 13 year old son.

On the lesson side, he brought a great mix of fundamentals (scales, etc.) and keeping my son really engaged by also teaching him tunes he wanted to learn.

On the logistics side, he was equally perfect: great communicator, never late, personable.

A nice guy, great player/teacher, and professional: I can't recommend him highly enough."

"A year ago, after a long 40 year or so break, I returned to my violin.
My professional career has nothing to do with music. Learning violin again is a hard work. The physical challenge is there, the ability rapidly to develop muscle tone and memory “sadly just isn’t there anymore.” My right arm is as stiff as a 2x4 stud and left fingers slip. So, lighting dashes over strings will take longer – much longer - to perfect.

But, Tigran reminded me that he has not found any shortcuts and he has been looking for a long time. I resumed very basic finger exercises and routine scales. And the results were very slow but the reward was there.

Tigran is very structured and systematically approaching how to improve the intonation and tonal quality. So, I am happy to leave it up to him to take the lead."

"I have taken a couple different piano instructors and Howard is by far, the best I have worked with. He tailors the instruction to you, your goals, and frames it towards your learning style and creates a lesson plan that's fun, educational, and full of information. He also cares so much about his students and is not just a piano instructor but a friend. I have made huge gains in my piano accompaniment and theory and I owe it all to Howard. Highly recommended!"

Why Are Piano Keys Arranged That Way?

When you look at the keys on a piano, a few things pop out right away. First, there are both white and black keys, and second, there is a distinct pattern that the keys on piano repeat. We'll explore that in this article. Black and White Keys on Piano Pianos are arranged with white keys for the musical tones of A, B, C …
