About Angela
Hi! My name is Angela, and I teach private piano, voice, and theory lessons. I love teaching, and have taught many ages (3 to 93) and ability levels (novice to advanced). I am a dependable, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic teacher. I offer lessons for 30, 45, or 60-minute weekly sessions in my home studio. I do not offer bi-weekly lessons or lessons in the student's home.

My home is a split-level, with my private living area above and my music studio below. There is a waiting area just outside the music studio, as well as a half-bath specifically designated for students and parents. The studio itself contains a piano and organ, my personal music library, and additional seating for parents. There is a full-length mirror for vocal students to watch their performance skills grow, and a gumball machine for when younger students have an exce
ptionally good lesson.

Making music is a skill which can bring lifelong joy to the musician as well as everyone around them. While I can easily ensure that my students enjoy music-making while they are taking lessons, my ultimate goal is that students continue to want to make music throughout their entire life, even after they stop taking lessons. I firmly believe that my job as a teacher is to train my students to be independent and self-sufficient musicians. Many teachers teach by rote, playing a passage to a student and then having the student play it back. Though this method is helpful in some situations, students who are taught in this manner often find that they are only able to play the songs taught to them in lessons, and that to learn a new song they must have a teacher by their side showing them how the song goes. In my lessons, however, students are taught to learn their own music through sight-reading, ear-training, music theory, and listening to and critiquing their own playing. Over time, this allows the student more and more freedom to make music without a teacher.

I am adding a review to override my original 4 star review to a 5 star review. My husband and I have been voice and piano students of Angela for well over a year now and she makes learning music interesting, fun, and challenging. It's intimidating to learn these skills (especially singing) as an adult but she is such a good teacher that we continue to look forward to our lessons and really enjoy learning these skills. She is encouraging and an excellent coach.

My daughter has been going to Angela for 4 years now. She started at 4 years of age, and is now 8 years old. My daughter started with voice lessons, and has since also picked up piano lessons. Now my younger daughter (5 years old) also began taking piano lessons with Angela. I can't imagine another music teacher for my girls. Angela is wonderful. She is professional and every moment of music lessons is complete quality time. I highly recommend Angela as a music teacher for anyone of any ability level!

About Kathy
About Me: I am an experienced classically trained Pianist who has been playing since the 3rd grade. I enjoy all styles of music and love sharing that enjoyment with my students. I have certification from the State of Missouri that I am proficient in educating beginning Piano students and have continued to expand my knowledge through my participation with local musicians’ groups. I am also working on expanding my instrumental abilities through perfecting my percussion skills and planning to learn guitar.

Experience: I have taught students for over 30 years and have seen many changes in both student’s preferences and the style of Music and instruments preferred. I am comfortable with both traditional pianos and organs and modern electronic keyboards. I have given lessons in my home, my students’ home and retail studios.

Methods & P
hilosphy: I start my students with the John Thompson Piano Course, First Grade Book. I began with this one myself and have found it the most productive and enjoyable for my students. I like to use this in conjunction with the John W. Schaum Note Speller as a good foundation in Music Theory. I believe that a good grounding in Theory is essential as a student who becomes proficient in sight reading, no matter how well he/she plays by ear, will find that the doors for lifetime musical fulfillment with be much wider.

Lesson Style: I also believe that Piano Lessons should be fun. Since I generally teach one on one, lessons can be tailored to each student and I add supplementary material to the Piano course as soon as possible based on the student’s progress and interests. I am willing to add supplementary music in most any genre from current radio hits, to Pop Standards and soundtracks, as well as Holiday Music based on the student’s culture. There is no proper pace as long as the student is willing to practice and is interested in learning. I am always surprised and happy when a student “gets” the language of music and really starts to express himself/herself through the instrument and I always find that my students teach me as much as I teach them

It's been a number of years since I have played and she did an excellent job on getting me back on the keys. I am looking forward to our next lesson.

Although I was forced to select a subject of Acoustic Guitar on the review form, my children and I have also taken lessons with Mel Parker on every subject in the pick list plus a few more. Theory, composition, recording. Improvisation techniques, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, banjo, violin, bass, mandolin, ear training, techniques applied to all music genre's, group and solo performance techniques, ETC! The main point here is that as an accomplished and talented musician, Mel Parker is fluent in the music industry and very skilled at teaching all skill levels, from beginner to pro. He can teach very rigid focused lessons or he can shift and adjust the lesson instantly to meet the needs of the student. My children have been able to explore and experiment different instruments, genre's and other areas of the music industry as their interests grew and changed over the years. They have had many changes in their interests but the one constant has been the TEACHER! It is wonderful to be able to have 1 teacher adjust his education for the ever changing and growing needs of my family. Both of my children are now very accomplished award winning performers and we all agree that Mel Parker has been/is the primary influencer in their accomplishments.

My daughter has been one of Mel's violin students for 5+ years. He is an accomplished musician who teaches his students with a kind and gracious demeanor. She also has had the opportunity to play solo's in recitals and yearly contests that Mel's studio arranges for his students. Because of his well-rounded attention to instruction, practice, and performance, her growth as a violinist has been immense. This growth has also allowed her to compete at the district and state level in school.

Hello there! My name is Kelsey, can't wait to meet you! I am fairly new to teaching private lessons, I started this January 2017. I love teaching, and I am very passionate about the flute! I'm excited to share my knowledge of this instrument with students, and to help them to achieve their best sound. I achieved my minor in flute performance at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, and graduated with my Bachelor's in 2012. I have personally been playing the flute for 20 years, and am able to teach students both to read music, and to improv. I perform in a duo several times a month around St. Louis and surrounding cities, specializing in flute improv and flute solos. I am a very patient, and enthusiastic person, and my teaching style is flexible and fun, focusing on attainable goals so the students can experience success.
I look forward to helping you reach your musical goals!

I was referred to Kelsey by a co-worker when I decided to start my seven year old on my old flute. We weren't sure if flute would be the right instrument, but since I already had one, it was the first logical step.

After the first lesson, my daughter had a good handle on identifying the notes in the treble clef. Half the battle is getting Chloe to pay attention. A stuffy, boring instructor would never keep her interest.

Kelsey is friendly, and reliable, and keeps lessons fun.

We switched to Kelsey for lessons in January, and the difference in my 9-year-old beginner flute player was very noticeable. Brittany has been more motivated to practice, and has moved forward two seat-ranks in school band since starting lessons with Kelsey. Brittany loves her. They relate in a unique way, "woman to woman," so to speak. Kelsey is very dedicated, and knowledgeable about the instrument. Brittany is in good hands.

About Daniela
Hi ! My name is Daniela and I can't wait to meet you!
I have been teaching piano and theory since 1994 and have loved helping my students discover the beautiful world of music. Seeing my students grow into well rounded and educated people that love art, are able to recognize different styles of music, express their feelings and emotions on this wonderful instrument makes me really happy. My students range from people who simply want to learn how to play proficiently as a hobby to students who are considering making music their future career.
I strongly believe that a chance to go on a big stage and play on a great Steinway piano in front of people, makes a big difference in children's lives: teaches them self control, gives them great sense of accomplishment and satisfaction. Taking part in festivals and piano competitions helps
with building high self esteem even more.
I look forward to helping you and your children to reach your goals!

About Brandon
I hold a B.A. in Music from Covenant College, where my instrument of study was the mandolin. I studied for two years under Matt Flinner, winner of the National Mandolin Contest 1991 in Winfield, Kansas.

My particular strength as a player and teacher is on tone and technique. My lessons focus firstly on creating a clean, clear tone, practicing good right hand and left hand technique.

Though I do work with students to play by ear and improvise, I also like to emphasize reading music on the mandolin and understanding music theory. These emphases are balanced according to the particular interests and goals of the particular student. The goal of my teaching is to encourage the student to become a well-rounded musician. This way the student can achieve their current musical goals, but also will have the foundation to pursue additional u
nforeseen goals and interests as they progress.

If the student has interest, I also can teach lessons on mandola and tenor guitar.

Violin has been a part of my life since I was five years old. I began teaching while in college completing my Bachelors in Violin Performance. Although I was performing frequently, I realized my heart was in teaching. I built a wonderful studio of young violinists and we gave several performances out in the community. I moved to St. Louis about two months ago with my fiancé (a classical guitarist) and am once again looking to teach. I have begun working at the Community Music School but would like to teach privately as well. I am happy to come to you and be flexible with busy schedules. In my approach, the student and their family always come first. I hope to have the chance to work with you!
