About Nicholas
Nick comes from a family of four generations of music in the GREEK/Balkan repertoire. He graduated from Columbia College of Chicago with a concentration in Music Composition in December of 2009. Currently teaching and performing professionally, Nick enjoys all styles of music, but has been declared as an "old soul" by many of his friends. He enjoys playing lots of Motown, funk, and jazz, but is proficient in Classical, Rock, and Blues as well. When not playing music (rarely), he is a Board member for the GivingBackPack Foundation which provides school supplies to underprivileged children. Nick's dedication to education is shown through his music and his personal volunteer hours, he feels his diverse background gives his students an advantage to a broader perspective of music and theory.

I hadn't played the trumpet in 30 years. My first lesson with Nicholas was like starting from scratch. He is very knowledgeable, polite, professional, and definitely patient. I feel that that homework Nicholas assigned was spot on. I'm playing better already after only two days. I would certainly recommend him to a friend.

Nicholas really tailored the lessons to what I needed. They weren't cookie-cutter lessons, and I appreciated that. He answered all the questions I had, and helped me understand some concepts that I never would have gotten just learning online. I definitely recommend him as a teacher.

Nicholas was very patient, took the time to write down information that was helpful (very helpful). Nicholas understood where I was in reference to me knowing nothing about the guitar and he is very knowledgeable with the music trade. He was very clear and kept things simple. I truly enjoy his instructions, can't wait for the next lesson.

About Nicole
Nicole began her musical journey in Long Island, New York when she began piano lessons at age five. While receiving training on piano, she joined her elementary school orchestra in the 3rd grade and quickly soared with violin. During this period, Nicole began learning music theory and the art of reading music. As a fourth grader, Nicole would go on to conduct and tune every instrument in her orchestra during rehearsal. She always competed and won many NYSMA competitions for violin while attending music seminars and workshops. It was then that her teacher realized she had a gift. Nicole continued with piano lessons and began teaching herself guitar. Later, after college, she bought herself a drum set and began to teach herself drums.
As an adult, Nicole studied to become an elementary teacher and worked in the New York State Sch
ool Districts for over five years. Shortly after receiving her master€'s degree for Literacy Education, Nicole decided to attempt to share her passion for music. In 2007, Nicole opened a music studio in Holbrook, New York. Here, she refined her music teaching skills while establishing Nicolex Inc. Music Island as a leading source of quality music education. Her summer traveling music program allowed her students to experience live performances as well as create music groups with peers with the same passion for music.
Nicole now resides in Tampa, Florida with hopes to spread her business as well as the joy of music to children and adults. She currently is the drummer for a local original rock band. In this band, Nicole writes songs, sings, plays piano, and drums (not all at the same time). Needless to say, she understands the importance that music has had in her life and wishes to ignite that passion in other music lovers.

*** Lesson Details ***
My teaching style is best labeled as kind but firm. I take my job very seriously and want wholeheartedly for my students to have music as a part of their life, not just a part of their day. I love to laugh and have fun but I will definitely expect my students to practice and complete any homework I assign and be prepared for the following lesson. Simply stated, music is fun and the love of my life, but if I still practice, you will as well. Otherwise, I always believe in teaching songs my students are interested in and will expand their musical skills. My experience as a public school teacher had enhanced my sense of finding individual needs of every student. Therefore, I always differentiate lessons to suit my students interest while teaching them the foundations every musician needs in order to be successful. My specialty is teaching a variety of instruments. I play drums, guitar, bass, piano, and sing as well. So, if one instrument is not for you, I can teach you something different without a problem. Long story short, friends, you are in good hands.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Full Service music room: Keyboard, Full drum kit, Electric Guitar with 30 watts Amp and Microphone/ vocal monitor.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can bring a 76 key Yahama YPG-235 Keyboard for your household to use for lessons for a small monthly rental fee. I have an Epiphone Electric Guitar with 30w amplifier. Will also bring microphone and monitor for vocal lessons.

*** Specialties ***
I have taught mostly Rock, Blues, and Classical genres for Piano, Guitar, Drums. Vocally, I specialize in R&B, Broadway, Pop, Top 100 and alternative/Hard Rock. I will adapt to your needs.

Nicole was patient but not a real positive attitude. We had a hard time warming up to her. She also always seem to cut our 30 minute lesson 5 minutes short which over the 5 weeks cost us 25 minutes of lost lesson time and I don't feel like my son is any further ahead than when he first started.

I am a 50-something-year-old business executive who began taking beginner piano lessons with Susan Merdinger almost 5 years ago.

Now, I am performing Chopin Nocturnes and Preludes and cherished works by Mozart and Beethoven to name just a few.

My Mom let me quit piano lessons in 1967 when I was growing up on the Southside of Chicago. I spent the next 45 years regretting it.

Now, as my piano teacher, Susan is inspiring me to make up for lost time.

At the end of each year, I am amazed at being able to play pieces I couldn’t have imagined performing 12 months earlier. This satisfying achievement comes only because of Susan’s character and competence as a teacher and her passion and enthusiasm to motivate me to practice 1 to 2 hours every day.

Susan is patient while maintaining very high standards with a commitment to excellence. She celebrates the progress of all her students to whom she is dedicated. While waiting for my lesson to begin, I have watched in amazement as she interacts with a full studio of very diverse students, young and old, boys and girls, beginners and advanced, even handicapped blind and autistic students. I’ve watched as she’s brought smiles to all her students after their recitals and audiences after her own concerts.

And Susan is one of the smartest persons I know who is expanding my horizons of the classical repertoire I play and appreciation of the classical music I listen to. There is a special pride to see your piano teacher perform solo or with members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at historic venues in Chicago or New York City.

I am a busy executive, but my piano lesson is the highlight of the week, even if that entails a 90-minute battle in Chicagoland rush hour traffic to get to my lesson.

That’s because my life is richer with the music Susan imparts.

I can’t recommend her strongly enough.

Although I was forced to select a subject of Acoustic Guitar on the review form, my children and I have also taken lessons with Mel Parker on every subject in the pick list plus a few more. Theory, composition, recording. Improvisation techniques, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, banjo, violin, bass, mandolin, ear training, techniques applied to all music genre's, group and solo performance techniques, ETC! The main point here is that as an accomplished and talented musician, Mel Parker is fluent in the music industry and very skilled at teaching all skill levels, from beginner to pro. He can teach very rigid focused lessons or he can shift and adjust the lesson instantly to meet the needs of the student. My children have been able to explore and experiment different instruments, genre's and other areas of the music industry as their interests grew and changed over the years. They have had many changes in their interests but the one constant has been the TEACHER! It is wonderful to be able to have 1 teacher adjust his education for the ever changing and growing needs of my family. Both of my children are now very accomplished award winning performers and we all agree that Mel Parker has been/is the primary influencer in their accomplishments.

My daughter has been one of Mel's violin students for 5+ years. He is an accomplished musician who teaches his students with a kind and gracious demeanor. She also has had the opportunity to play solo's in recitals and yearly contests that Mel's studio arranges for his students. Because of his well-rounded attention to instruction, practice, and performance, her growth as a violinist has been immense. This growth has also allowed her to compete at the district and state level in school.

Hi, my name is Tim Houston and I am Trumpet player and music instructor in the Omaha, NE metro area. I graduated with a Bachelor's in Music Performance from the University of Nebraska Omaha in 2012 and have been teaching private lessons since 2014.

My style of teaching is easy-going and conversational, using various explanations to find what each student understands best. I specialize in teaching beginners and focus on building a core understanding of music theory through scales and chords while emphasizing great tone on the Trumpet. After my students become comfortable with notes, major & minor scales, and major & minor chords, I move on to simple composition and student-driven transcription.

When I'm not teaching I am playing in community bands and gigging in the metro area. I play and record with Latin bands, rock groups, wind b

About Maya
Hello wonderful future students! My name is Maya, I am currently in my junior year of my music education degree and I have a passion for music. I started singing when I was about 4 years old, but I didn't start taking professional lessons until I was around the age of 12. I started with piano and voice lessons and my love for music just took off. What I want to provide for my students is the same kind of nurturing of this passion that my former and current music instructors did for me. It doesn't matter what you do, or if you're good or bad at it. It matters that you're passionate about it. If you're passionate about music, then I can guarantee you that you will succeed in my studio and we will have a great time.

A little bit about me. I grew up in Gilbert, Arizona and then moved to Dearborn, Michigan when I was 19 years old. At age 13
, I joined my first rock band and played only 2 shows with them, one of them being my own birthday party. For the next year and a half I sang for 3 different heavy rock bands. Coming up on my senior year of high school I joined a band and we toured the west coast together until I decided to focus on my classical and musical theater vocal career. I started my Music Therapy degree at Arizona State University in the fall of 2015 and switched my major to Music Education in the spring of 2016. Since moving to Michigan, I am currently planning on attending the University of Michigan to complete my degree as a Music Educator.

I have a great background in many musical styles such as musical theatre (Broadway), classical, opera, rock, alternative, pop, jazz, etc. Anything that you want to accomplish, we can do with passion and with drive. I have performed with many different groups such as choirs, orchestras, bands, rock bands, and many more that any style you'd like to cover, we can find a way to do it correctly and educationally. I want to give you the tools that you need to further your music career.

I like to keep my lessons fun, laid-back, and easy-going because stress likes to do funny things with out minds. In my studio we will accomplish so much and I can't wait to start our journey together!

Hey there Trumpeters and Potential Trumpeters!

A few more notes about myself and my background...

I've spent most of my life working as a musician, since 1999, when I was 13. I took to the trumpet on the suggestion of an amazing public school music teacher when I showed up asking to join the jazz band without the ability to play an instrument or even read music...(had no idea what I was doing at the time)!

However, I started taking lessons with him that summer and by the end of the school year I'd gone from bottom chair to lead in every group at school and within a couple of years started performing with my teachers and with professional musicians in the greater Seattle area, then hitting the recording studios. By 15 I was invited to be a guest musician with the Seattle Symphony.

I studied under the Principal Trumpeter of the Seattle
Ballet company from 14 to 18 and went to college with a passion for music. I studied music at the University of Maine and University of Nebraska at Omaha, performing, touring and teaching along the way. During that time, I joined a few small jazz ensembles, along with the university bands as well as a 20+ irish-rock group that I continue to play and tour with today.

I have also worked as a firefighter for over five years, and recently completed my training at Creighton University and earned my license to serve as an EMT in the state of Nebraska...maybe going for paramedic as well. I love working with and helping people!

I have a number of students in the Omaha area now and I would love to meet you (whether for online for online or face to face for in-house lessons) and see if you would like me to help you become the amazing trumpeter and musician that you want to be!

Thanks for your consideration and I look forward to meeting you!
- Scott

Scott has a real passion for music and that is evident in his energetic teaching style. He is an extremely talented musician, able to play the tin whistle and trumpet incredibly well, and wants to share those talents with everyone he can. He probably gets even more excited when one of his students learns something new than when he himself does. I think he would rather see a student play a perfect piece than himself, which speaks to his generosity and great personality.
