About Juliet
I have been a teacher in private practice for 20 years. I have a wide range of experience with singers of all styles and age groups with a variety of goals and skills. I sang with a professional jazz octet for a number of years while maintaining my practice, have taught various master classes, musically directed various musicals, have sung background vocals and played piano on various recordings. I studied vocal and piano performance at Murray State University and studied privately through my adult singing and teaching career.

I am a big believer of direct application of core technique to repertoire/style. Generally, lessons are fun, comfortable and laughter is encouraged. I like singers to be working on a wide variety of music from the beginning. It's a great way to understand and explore your voice an
d how great technique is fundamental to successful development. I find this approach beneficial if you're a beginning student or if you sing professionally. Not to mention, singing songs is fun!!!! I encourage all students to give input on repertoire. Songs are chosen with goals in mind, including working specific parts of the range, preparing for an audition or performance, stamina, strength, and overall vocal development. In 3-6 months you will have a very good understanding of how your voice works and how to apply good technique to a variety of styles of music. My goals for piano students of all ages include a broad understanding of music theory and the ability to sit down and play music! I believe good sight reading skills are paramount for piano enjoyment and functional playing skills. We will sight read at each lesson.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Studio with piano, mic, recoding equipment, and seating for parents.

*** Travel Equipment ***

*Teachers classified as a Student Favorite have taught a minimum of 25

I work with singers with various goals. Some are professional singers, some study for a future career, and some study for personal enrichment. I am very good at teaching solid healthy technique/voice use, with direct application to repertoire, maintaining the singer's authenticity, style, and vocal health.

My love of singing began in my freshman year of high school, when I joined the choir. It was a life-changing experience, and inspired me to make music my career. I immediately began taking private voice lessons, and became a voice teacher myself by 2005. While in college, I was presented with many opportunities to learn and grow, both as a musician and as a teacher. I sang in several different collegiate choirs, and was nominated to be in the all-collegiate choir in 2007. I also passed yearly auditions to sing in Voices Only, Lindenwood's most advanced vocal group. During my junior and senior years at Lindenwood, I worked as the assistant director of Voices Only. This was a wonderful opportunity, and I learned so much while leading warm-ups every day, running sectionals on a weekly basis, directing the group during rehearsals and even during performances when the director was away. I currently sing in the Saint Louis Harmony Chorus, one of the top 25 women's barbershop choruses in the

About Angela
Hi! My name is Angela, and I teach private piano, voice, and theory lessons. I love teaching, and have taught many ages (3 to 93) and ability levels (novice to advanced). I am a dependable, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic teacher. I offer lessons for 30, 45, or 60-minute weekly sessions in my home studio. I do not offer bi-weekly lessons or lessons in the student's home.

My home is a split-level, with my private living area above and my music studio below. There is a waiting area just outside the music studio, as well as a half-bath specifically designated for students and parents. The studio itself contains a piano and organ, my personal music library, and additional seating for parents. There is a full-length mirror for vocal students to watch their performance skills grow, and a gumball machine for when younger students have an exce
ptionally good lesson.

Making music is a skill which can bring lifelong joy to the musician as well as everyone around them. While I can easily ensure that my students enjoy music-making while they are taking lessons, my ultimate goal is that students continue to want to make music throughout their entire life, even after they stop taking lessons. I firmly believe that my job as a teacher is to train my students to be independent and self-sufficient musicians. Many teachers teach by rote, playing a passage to a student and then having the student play it back. Though this method is helpful in some situations, students who are taught in this manner often find that they are only able to play the songs taught to them in lessons, and that to learn a new song they must have a teacher by their side showing them how the song goes. In my lessons, however, students are taught to learn their own music through sight-reading, ear-training, music theory, and listening to and critiquing their own playing. Over time, this allows the student more and more freedom to make music without a teacher.

I am adding a review to override my original 4 star review to a 5 star review. My husband and I have been voice and piano students of Angela for well over a year now and she makes learning music interesting, fun, and challenging. It's intimidating to learn these skills (especially singing) as an adult but she is such a good teacher that we continue to look forward to our lessons and really enjoy learning these skills. She is encouraging and an excellent coach.

My daughter has been going to Angela for 4 years now. She started at 4 years of age, and is now 8 years old. My daughter started with voice lessons, and has since also picked up piano lessons. Now my younger daughter (5 years old) also began taking piano lessons with Angela. I can't imagine another music teacher for my girls. Angela is wonderful. She is professional and every moment of music lessons is complete quality time. I highly recommend Angela as a music teacher for anyone of any ability level!

About Laura
I teach voice, piano and guitar. My Music Degree from Point Loma Nazarene University is in Vocal Performance. I love what I do. I teach children through adults. I have lots of experience in worship
leading for church if that is of interest.

I am easy-going, but I expect you to practice. I am thorough in my approach. For piano lessons, I utilize the Alfred method. I emphasize note reading and theory in each genre, whether taking guitar, voice or piano. I am currently using Hal Leonard's Guitar Method books for guitar and a few different things for vocal curriculum. All lessons can be supplemented with what you are currently interested in or working towards. I enjoy helping prepare young people for their performances in theatre arts. Lessons can be combined, for example; if you are interested in both voice and
guitar, you can take a longer weekly lesson and have both subjects covered! Weekly assignments are given and checked to see if done before proceeding to the next step! I do not recommend students come every other week. I recommend one lesson per week.

*** Travel Equipment ***

I have been teaching voice lessons for 3 years, I have a degree in Vocal Performance from New York University.

I have experience in teaching and performing a wide variety of musical genres including Broadway/Musical Theater, Pop, Jazz, Rock, and R&B/Soul. I also teach various vocal techniques, including "legit" singing for opera/theater, belt technique, and jazz technique.

The structure of my singing lesson typically consists of warm-ups and technical development for the first half, then working on song repertoire for the second half. I like to discuss the acting and emotion of a song too, because I think it's important to know what you're singing about and to be able to give a compelling performance.

I use my background in yoga to help my students find relaxation in their bodies and connect to their breath. Body-awareness is very important for singing and I also incorporate this into my lessons.

About Ionie
Have you always wanted to sing but didn't know where to start? Have a little one with a big voice that needs nurturing? Do you wish to expand your range and your repertoire?

Ionie's Voice Studio can help you find your voice! Your lessons will include the study of vocal technique and health, music theory, acting for the singer, body integration, and more!

With an extensive background in musical theater, pop, jazz, and rock, I have been performing for 20 years. I am also an accomplished songwriter, salsa dancer, and yoga teacher.

I am a kind, patient teacher with high student expectations. I provide a structured class in which students are asked to regularly learn and workshop new songs. I also am very experienced in working with children.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions!

What's great about Ionie is that she has Classical training and experience in Musical Theater. That really helped me because she could use her classical training to make sure I stopped singing in a way that damaged my voice and understood my goals for singing Pop and Musical Theater style songs. She was prompt, professional, nice, honest, and hardworking.

A certain degree of music theory is recommended for this subject, but not required based on student preference. I have over 20 years experience and professional training that tailors the instruction to the weaknesses and strengths of each student.

About Matt
With most of my music students, we focus on several key areas to ensure success of overall technique and knowledge: WARM-UPs, SCALES, MUSIC THEORY, SIGHT-READING, and PREPARED SONGS. I tailor my approach and style to each student. Although I'm very detail-oriented with lessons and followup, I'm constantly in search of finding FUN ways to make sure the student is enjoying the journey. I also prefer to work on a song that the STUDENT wants to learn. It's music, and it should be fun!

Please review the rest of my profile and send me any questions or concerns you may have. If I don't think I can be the best teacher for you, I will gladly refer you to someone else on Takelessons or elsewhere.

I've been a lifelong musician, and love finding unique and fun ways to motivate my students. I've worked with most styles of music before,
and arranged music for many as well, so I'm very comfortable helping students with a variety of disciplines and interests. My professional experience in both the civilian and military music communities has given me an open-minded yet direct approach to WHAT you should learn, and HOW to develop each student's individual skills. I'm able to teach most students to an advanced level.

I've been coaching modern vocal technique and performance technique for a decade. I've helped students prepare for auditions with local bands, musical theater productions, and The Voice. Students learn to think of themselves as athletes, and to maintain a workout regimen that keeps their voices strong and agile. My goal is for each student to have fun while gaining skills and confidence.

All of my students have the option to customize their lessons by adding elements of music theory, keyboard skills, or songwriting to their singing lessons.

About Judy
My primary goal as a music educator is to encourage self-expression and individuality. I have a decade of experience helping modern singers young and old find their personal styles and voices, using science-backed vocal technique and a personal workout routine for every student. Singing is the ultimate form of self-expression and can be ground zero for finding confidence, fulfillment and adventure in life.

I also have 15+ years experience teaching music theory, keyboard skills and songwriting, and have been performing for two decades solo and in cover/function bands, as singer, keyboardist and even trombonist.

I hold a Master of Music in Composition from Virginia Commonwealth University and I am also a Certified Personal Coach.

She doesn't sugar coat anything but she always tell you in a nice way so no ones feelings get hurt. She encourages me to do better, she's there to talk about what's going on in my life, like she truly cares. She taught me how to acknowledge all the roles singing plays in. I've learned , and have truly become better because of Judy! Highly recommend her all the way!

My 7 year old loves to sing and wanted to take voice lessons. She is very shy around strangers and has Selective Mutism, but by the 2nd lesson she didn't even want me in the room. She was comfortable and looks forward to the lesson every week. She has started moving to the music and listens to all instruction. She practices at home everyday. I noticed this week at her dance recital she has more confidence and it shows in all aspects. Best decision we have made!!
