With more than 30 years of teaching experience for the cello, I have taught students of all ages, throughout California and overseas. I earned a Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree in Cello Performance and am currently the Principal cellist for the Camellia Symphony, California. In addition, I am teaching all levels of cello and beginner violin lessons to my students in Folsom, Napa and Sacramento.

My professional performing experience began in Medellin, Colombia in 1985 with the Medellin Philharmonic Orchestra where I was their Soloist beginning in 1992 and later on, as First Cello, from 1998-2002.

While in Colombia, I also performed with the Antioquia Symphonic Orchestra and the Antioquia Chamber Orchestra from 1991-1999.

I left my hometown of Medellin to come to the United States where I performed with the
Texas Christian University Orchestra in Fort Worth, Texas in 2000. Returning to Medellin, I spent the next year with the Eafit Symphonic Orchestra.

Finally, I settled in Sacramento in 2003, coming here to earn my Master's Degree in Cello Performance while performing throughout the next year with the California State University, Sacramento Symphony.

In Sacramento, I have also performed with the Sacramento Metropolitan Orchestra and with several other chamber groups.

At this time, I am teaching all levels of cello and beginner violin. My students range in age from six to seventy years and enjoy learning in a relaxing environment at their own pace.

I incorporate several different teaching styles to meet each students' individual needs and abilities.

Maria is an exceptional cello instructor. She is accomplished and highly skilled, though what sets her apart is her obvious love and enthusiasm for teaching. She is patient, discerning and observant, as well as friendly and approachable. She's been great in every way with our 10-year-old daughter.

As an adult beginner, Maria has been impeccable making me feel comfortable, encouraging me, challenging me, and teaching me. She is kind, professional, efficient, and very good at what she does. It is evident that she loves teaching as deeply and as truly as she loves the cello.

About Hannah
Hello!
I am looking forward to meeting you and your child! I'd love to do introductions in person, but let me tell you a few things about me:

I am a Michigan-born twenty-something who recently got married (yay!). Before moving to Kentwood to live with my husband, I taught piano at Marshall Music in Kalamazoo and was an Administrative Assistant at a local church for about 4 years.
Before that I received my Bachelors in Business Administration and a Minor in Music at Indiana Wesleyan University. I was homeschooled all the way from Kindergarten to 12th grade and graduated with my other homeschool friends.

I have taken piano lessons for about 20 years and have learned a few things from my amazingly talented teachers. One, develop a relationship with your student by having conversations about everyday life, two, have a great structur
ed reward system for students who practice, and three, ALWAYS have fun.

There are a few things on the side that I like to do or have done in the past (this information might be useful to tell your son or daughter). I was a very busy homeschool student. Sports were very important to me growing up, I did softball, volleyball and soccer. I also was highly involved in performing arts. I currently enjoy doing crafts like sewing, card making, refinishing furniture, and cooking/baking. I am also a pet lover!

I can't wait to learn more about you at our first lesson.

He is loving it so much that now he plays the piano an also trombone in band too, thanks to Hannah. She is such a great teacher that I ended up taking clases too and I am loving it. She makes it really fun.

Hannah is a very sweet and patient young lady. I took piano lessons from her a few years ago. I didn't know how to read music and had never played before. At age 60 it was one of the things I wanted to accomplish on my bucket list. She helped me achieve that.
I highly recommend her for anyone. Young or old!

Hannah is not only a wonderful piano teacher, she is also a wonderful person. She is kind and cares about her students. At the same time, she sets high expectations for them to achieve success. We feel lucky to have found Hannah. She taught my daughter to love music, and to work hard."

About Zach
Hello! I'm a full-time private music tutor who currently teaches over 50 lessons each week. In 2007, I began studying the education of historical child prodigies, like Mozart and Picasso, and the curriculums they used as children. At the same time, I was studying cognitive neuroscience, which informed my practice as a teacher. In 2009, I opened a set of fine arts studios for kids which was dedicated to teaching arts that improved the developing brain.

In 2015, I published an article on cognitive ergonomics on the practice of optimizing learning materials for ease and efficiency. In 2016, I filed a patent on a music notation system cognitively optimized for young beginners on piano and stringed instruments, especially violin, viola, cello, and guitar, and started a website designed for self-learning, kindergarten-to-college. As the lead
curriculum designer, my job is to make a modern music curriculum more successful at getting young beginners started loving to play music than any other in the world.

I'm currently beginning work on the foreign language song sets for German, Spanish, and French, as well as the Partner Song Series, which is based directly on a piano curriculum written by Bach for his students, and was used by both Mozart and Beethoven as children!

I've worked with many special needs learners, including ADD/ADHD, low IQ, Autism, Down Syndrome, and blind students. The nature of my curriculum, designed for very young learners, naturally accommodates older learners with special needs.

I really appreciated that Zach was very understanding and flexible with crazy changing work schedules. He does a good job of mixing music theory, technical exercises, while still being open and even encouraging the student to working on styles and pieces they are interested in and enjoy. Zach is great about asking the student what they want to learn and work on, while still making sure that they are always learning something new and always pushing themselves. Zach always seems to genuinely care and get excited about music, teaching, and his students.

Zach is very personable and figured out a great method to motivate my reluctant child--fake money!! He also developed his own musical notation to aid in helping students learn how to read music but in such a way that isn't as complicated as the standard notation. My son really likes him.

My daughter is very shy and quiet. Zach is fantastic and she loves him! He is patient and funny. His way of teaching works! She is just 6 years old and is already playing songs after just 6 weeks. His music curriculum is so easy to understand and play! We've been very impressed.

Nicole Frazee, a native of Grand Rapids, Michigan, began playing the flute at age thirteen. At a young age, Frazee showed great promise as a musician and was piccolo/third flute of the Grand Rapids Youth Symphony under the direction of John Varineau, Associate Conductor of the Grand Rapids Symphony. She received her Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance in 2009 from Grand Valley State University, where she studied under Judith Kemph (flute/piccolo of the Grand Rapids Symphony) and Nancy Stagnitta. Her freshman year she was winner of the chamber orchestra concerto competition, and later a winner of the upper division scholarship competition, symphony orchestra scholarship and symphonic wind ensemble scholarship. During her years at Grand Valley, Frazee was very involved in the performing ensembles. She was principle flute of the symp
honic wind ensemble, piccolo/third flute of the symphony orchestra, and piccolo/third flute of the pit orchestra. She was also principle flute and piccolo of the GVSU New Music Ensemble, under the direction of distinguished composer Bill Ryan. In 2009, Frazee was one of four students from the New Music Ensemble invited to perform In C at Carnegie Hall with Terry Riley, the Kronos Quartet, and other new music all-stars in celebration of the 45th anniversary of the work. The same year, Frazee was a performer with the New Music Ensemble on their CD, In C: Remixed, recorded by River City Studios. In C: Remixed was nominated for a Grammy, and referred to by Terry Riley as “...one of the best performances of In C ever...” The Washington Post, Time Out Chicago and All About Jazz named In C:Remixed as one of the top ten classical releases of 2009.
Frazee earned her Master of Music degree in 2011 from East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina, where she studied with Dr. Christine Gustafson and received a tuition scholarship and graduate flute assistantship. While at East Carolina, Frazee was principle flute of the symphony orchestra and symphonic wind ensemble, third flute/piccolo of the pit orchestra, and was a student member of the ECU Faculty’s Eastern Symphony Orchestra.
Frazee is both an active performer and teacher. She has attended many master classes throughout the United States and Canada and has had the opportunity to work with such flutists as Carol Wincenc, Nicholas Duchamp, Regina Helcher Yost, Nina Assimakopolous, Valerie Coleman, Denis Bluteau and world-renowned violinist, Dylana Jenson.
