Rhythm guitar, picking patterns and reading notes on the guitar are all taught.

About Kathryn

Kathy believes that variety is the spice of not only life, but also music. Raised singing folk music with a musical family (think accordions, guitars and lots of vocal harmonies), she learned guitar and piano at an early age, but began singing even earlier. Her quest to give the world the best

My experience with Kathy has been great. It's been roughly five months and I learned a lot and I'm also much more confident to sing. Learning the right techniques is crucial. Kathy is extremely patient and she adapts the classes to the student goals and aspirations. English is not my first language and she was also always very respectful and patient in explaining everything twice or maybe three times until I get it.
Kathleen
Kathryn has a terrific demeanor, and provides clear, thoughtful suggestions for technique!

"Dennis has been a wonderful guitar teacher and mentor for me over the last 18 months or so. I am in my mid-50s and was starting essentially as a beginner when I signed up to work with Dennis. Thanks to Dennis' patient and individualized approach, I have made great strides and am pleased with how I have progressed. While he is a very accomplished guitarist, he is also a very experienced teacher. Dennis' teaching approach is not to ask the student to follow a rigid learning plan or replicate the journey he took to mastering the guitar, but rather focuses on tailoring the lessons to the student's abilities, musical interests, time constraints, learning modes, etc. The bottom line is that I enjoy working with Dennis each week and practicing what he has taught me.

The pandemic has obviously thrown a big wrench into the giving of guitar lessons. Before, Dennis was teaching me at his house. We now meet online using the Takelessons platform. Online lessons took some getting used to and are clearly not optimal, but I think Dennis has become more and more adept at making it work as well as possible.

I heartily recommend Dennis as a guitar teacher."

"Kelly is the best voice/singing teacher I've had from takelessons! She's a true professional--prompt response for scheduling, on time/ready for my lessons when I arrive and she has a proper studio space (clean and organized)! But above all that, her education, experience, talent and heart makes her give you her very best to help you succeed in your goals--while doing it in a sincere, respectful and encouraging way. She has techniques, tips and advice geared specifically for my challenges, that are my go-to's for when I'm rehearsing/warming up and performing! Thanks, Kelly!"

How to Start Your Own Piano Studio: a Guide for Teachers

Teaching music is a great way to learn more about the piano, and also more about  yourself. As an instructor, you will learn how to better communicate ideas and information to others.   The beauty of education is that it’s a two-way street. If there is compatibility, both  the teacher and the student benefit from the exchange. Teaching also requires  adaptation and creativity because no two students are alike.
