I was born in Cleveland, and received a Bachelor of Music degree from Kent State University in Ohio before coming to New York City for studies with Thomas Nyfenger and Carol Wincenc. In 1987 I received a masters degree in flute performance from the Zurich Conservatory of Music, in Switzerland, having started my studies there on a Rotary Foundation Grant. I have also won a BRIO Award for excellence in the arts from the Bronx Council on the Arts. I teach at the Third Street Music School Settlement in Manhattan and I have taught recorder ensembles for Classroom Recorder Arts throughout New York City. I perform with the Celtic and Early Music Trio, Gryphon & Co., with the Putnam Chorale Orchestra, the American Chamber Opera Co., and other groups in the NYC area. *** Lesson Details ***

I have a Masters in Education as well as having spent many years performing, teaching in one on one and group settings both privately and at music camps and festivals. I play and teach bluegrass, old time, Irish, and swing jazz styles. I like my students to really enjoy playing music and their lessons as well as learning to become fluent in the language of music. It is not required that folks learn to read music necessarily, but it can be a part of the lessons if desired.
