A Chinese native. Ali began studying violin at age 4 with her uncle, well-known teacher Dayu Su. She majored in violin performance as a student of Xiaowei Chen at the prestigious Renmin University in Beijing, graduating at the top of her class. She then completed a Masters Degree with Bayla Keyes at Boston University (where she won the Bach Prize) and completed Suzuki Training at the Hartt School of Music at Hartford University, CT.

After apprenticing with her uncle, Ali went on to teach at elementary and middle schools in Beijing, where several of her students won first prizes in violin competitions. She is group violin teacher for the Chelsea Public Schools, and also teaches private lessons at the Ip Piano School in Boston

As a performer, Ali has played with the orchestras of the National Ballet of China and the National Grand Theater on Beijing; and in the US with the Cleveland Orchestra at the Blossom International Festival.

My personal pedagogy is a combination of the basic technical and theoretical aspects of the instrument and what music the student is interested. It is paramount that students of all levels are learning their instrument through performing their favorite music. All necessary technical exercises can be adapted to a specific genre of music. I have many resources and a vast library of literature available for my lessons that I have compiled through my years at Berklee studying with the world's greatest bassists and theorists.

My main goal in every lesson is to be as time efficient as possible. We start with introducing new warm up exercises or new approaches to playing the instrument with confidence and facility. This is important for students of all levels so we can learn the correct ways to execute our favorite music in the most efficient way possible. I take a holistic approach to teaching voice. When you sing, your entire body is your instrument, which means that you have to be attuned to your whole body to produce the healthiest, most organic sound. I've been teaching for 13 years, and in that time I've leaned lots of different methodologies. I use a combination of knowledge from my classical training in conjunction with yoga, mindfulness and real world experience to give my students the best path forward in their musical journey.
