About Ian
Hello! My name is Ian, and whether you're young, old, a novice or a veteran, I can't wait to work together to help you achieve your creative goals. I've been singing for as long as I can remember, and began playing the guitar when I was 11 years old. I studied music and theatre at Salem State University, where I earned a B.A. in music in 2004. For the last 15 years I've been working as a freelance musician, music director and composer in and around the greater Boston and Providence areas.

I love teaching, and I try to make my lessons fun, engaging and personally tailored to help each student meet their unique goals. I've worked with individuals of all ages, ability levels and walks of life, and I have extensive experience helping students with a wide variety of special needs, such as those with autism, ADHD, anxiety disorders, physica
l disabilities, etc. I love teaching beginners, because it's such a pleasure to help someone navigate their way through what can be a very intimidating subject at first.

Great teacher and nice guy!

I started singing lessons as a complete beginner, although I am in my 30s. Ian was happy to teach me the basics and then we dove right in to something I was interested in learning to sing. He was easy to talk to and encouraging, but willing to point out what I could improve as well. I would recommend him to others.

Awesome teacher!!!

Took a couple singing lessons in the past with a different teacher and I didn't get very far. Ian has a great teaching style and I can already hear a difference in my singing just in the first few weeks of lessons. He is very encouraging, especially for a beginner like me. His constructive criticism is equally helpful. Highly recommended.

Fantastic, Genre Diverse Vocal Teacher

In addition to thoroughly addressing all of the issues that initially spurned my desire for vocal lessons, we also examined and exercised other critical areas that he brought to my attention, and laid a strong foundation for singing technique.

Andrew didn't teach me through Reverb, but I made an account just to say how much I appreciate him. His lessons were fun, and worth every penny. I would recommend him to anyone, any age. He taught me drums for 2 years, and it was a blast. He is the most patient, down to earth and funny guy, and his teaching style was so easy to learn from. He is definitely one of a kind!!!

My name is Victor and I have been actively teaching cello for the past 4 years. In Ames, IA I had a studio of 8 students, all ranging from different age groups and abilities. I also have experience teaching online lessons, which require a slightly different approach than normal in person lessons. I recently moved to Boston to pursue my masters degree in cello performance at The Boston Conservatory. I am looking forward to building a studio here in Boston! My goal as a teacher is to help you achieve your musical goals. I try my absolute hardest to create a warm and positive environment for all of my students. I understand that all of my students are different and I make sure to create individual lesson plans for each of my students. Not only will you grow as a musician and as a cellist, but I believe that learning an instrument gives us sk
ills that can be beneficial in every aspect of our daily lives. Whether you are new to the cello, picking it back up after some time off, or at a more advanced level, I hope to hear from you! If you have any questions at all, please send me an email. I look forward to hearing from you!

BIO:
Born in Minneapolis, MN, Victor Mooney began playing cello at the age of 7. While in Minneapolis he studied with Tom Austin, former member of the Minnesota Opera. I was a pianist and oboist in my early life, and now in my 40s decided that I'd love to learn to play the cello. Victor is a really wonderful teacher. He's very patient, very calm, and very responsive. Whenever I would message him, he'd respond within a few hours, and often he'd respond right away. He was very flexible when schedules changed. Whenever I would run into problems or issues with a new technique, he would find resources, such as videos, to help describe it more fully. I've had many music teachers over the years and Victor is absolutely one of the best.

I have been working with Jen on music for over ten years. Just recently, in the last 6 months or so, I went to her to help me tackle a specific problem in my voice. Within just a few lessons, she developed an insight into how to help me, and we began to make real progress. I now have a specific pathway in which I am confident that with persistent work, I can overcome this problem. Jen has real insight into the human voice, and true compassion and patience when working with others.

Alex is great. He is very patient and supportive. He does a great job of explaining things without overwhelming me with too much information to process. He keeps me interested by changing things up and challenging me every lesson. I'm an adult beginner, and Alex strikes a great balance between teaching me music that I want to learn and things that will help me become a better player. I highly recommend Alex as a teacher.

I've had 5 lessons with Alex and have already seen incredible improvement. Alex's methodology is to teach lessons but taking a song you really would like to learn, and walking you through the steps necessary to be playing it seamlessly and quickly. He throws in musical theory and other important elements of learning the instrument in there as well. I love that he always emails me a rundown of our lesson via email after the lesson so I can be reminded of things when practicing. He is extremely accommodating with his schedule, which I also really appreciate. Overall, it's been an incredibly enjoyable experience and I recommend Alex to anyone trying to learn!

About Alyssa
Hi there!

I am a supportive and encouraging teacher willing to teach all ages and abilities. It is my firm belief that music is for everyone.

I am currently pursuing my M.M. from Longy School of Music. I completed my undergraduate work at Rhode Island College, where I studied oboe and bassoon privately. I am currently on the private lesson roster for two public schools in the area, and teach both double-reeded instruments. I have successfully helped young students prepare for and audition into district level ensembles.

I have reed-making experience and can assist students with finicky reeds, to help ease the most frustrating part about playing oboe & bassoon.

I'm looking forward to working with you!

About Jason
Born and raised in Kenya, I'm a singer, songwriter, recording artist, and producer. I received a partial scholarship to Berklee College of Music as part of their African Scholars Program, and in August of 2010, left Nairobi for Boston to pursue an Professional Diploma in Songwriting. While studying at Berklee, I was awarded the Pat Pattison Award in 2014 in recognition of outstanding musicianship in the songwriting department, and as part of the graduating class of 2015, chosen to give the commencement address as student speaker.

My love of music began at an early age but it wasn't until I was diagnosed with chronic kidney failure at the age of fifteen, that I turned to songwriting as a way to process the experience. My passion for songwriting grew steadily and I spent hours and hours listening to music, analyzing why the songs worke
d. After two years of dialysis, I had a successful kidney transplant in 2007! I credit the experience for adding depth, purpose and identity to my songwriting.

When teaching songwriting, I like to take a holistic approach. Students learn to recognize, explore and apply the four basic building blocks of songs, Rhythm, Melody, Harmony and Lyrics. My lessons also focus on helping students express themselves authentically and discover their original musical identity. Above all I believe that songwriting should be fun and stress-free. I aim to create an atmosphere in which the student feels relaxed and confident.

My goal is to get you to where you want to be. I believe that anyone with a desire to write songs can: I will give you the tools, and you decide what you'll decide what you want to build with them.

I look forward to working with you and helping you along your songwriting journey.

About Charles
As a graduate of The DePaul University School of Music, my performance program was rooted in orchestral, chamber, baroque, and 20th century+ music ensembles. While at DePaul, I had the privilege of studying with Alyce Johnson of The Chicago Lyric Opera.

Additionally, DePaul University's courses in pedagogy and orchestral repertoire, taught by members of the Chicago Symphony and San Fransisco Symphony Orchestras, have helped shape my teaching to accommodate all skill levels and various learning styles.

After completing school in Chicago, I moved to Boston to further my performance and teaching careers while pursing a Masters in music performance at The Longy School of Music in Cambridge, MA.

In order to have a fulfilling plan, I believe that students should work at their own pace with guidance and support while setting realistic
short and long-term goals. With this process, students succeed, gain positive energy, and continuously improve. In giving students space, this method encourages vital components: independence, responsibility, and curiosity.

About Bob
I have spent the last 35 years teaching elementary and middle school band in a community known for its strong music program.
I love teaching music to students.. especially the art of playing trumpet. I try to incorporate fun and enthusiasm in each lesson while accomplishing some short term and long term goals. The student is my ultimate focus during the lesson time. Sometimes my students arrive and have a total different idea of concepts or literature in which they wish to make progress different from what I had planned. We are always able to accommodate these shifts in plans while reaching our lesson goals.
I enjoy working with students in the middle school ages. I find that this is when they make the greatest growth. There is nothing better that seeing a child's face as the bulbs go off concerning musical concepts. I believe tha
t together we can reach great heights in your musical development. I invite you to try s lesson and make music meaningful in your life.

Dr. Mealey was the man who taught me my very first lesson on the tuba oh so many years ago. I have since had the privilege of performing professionally in over 40 states and 30 countries around the world as a soloist and as a member of Boston Brass. The years of private lessons I took with Dr. Mealey gave me the perfect musical foundation to eventually pursue my dreams.

I still remember how much he cared for every single kid in each of his bands. There are people who are put on this earth to teach and he is one of those. I can't imagine how my life would have turned out if it weren't for Dr. Mealey.

I can't recommend studying with him any more highly.

I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Mealey for fourteen years, first as a colleague and then as his supervisor. Bob is a very skilled musician and teacher. He has had many years of experience bringing his students' performance levels to new heights. He works hard and expects the same from his students. This winning combination has helped to create some very skilled musicians, with many of them going on to enjoy playing in ensembles for many years.

It was always a pleasure to watch Dr. Mealey and his students perform in concert. The looks of joy were always evident with everyone in the house - members of the ensemble, its director, and the audience.

You can't go wrong with Dr. Mealey.

Dr. Mealey had a tremendous impact on all of my children. He truly instilled in them a love of music and gave them an opportunity to really experiment and express themselves. Because of their solid foundation with Dr. Mealey, they played throughout high school and some even into the college level marching band! Dr. Mealey is a class act and knows how to connect with his students!

About Tree
I'm a trumpeter, composer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist with experience in multiple genres and settings, and I hope to help brass players and musicians of all types achieve the artistic goals they're aiming for.

In 2011, I attended the Brubeck Institute Fellowship Program in Stockton, CA, where I recorded the album "Origins" with the Downbeat Award-winning Brubeck Institute Jazz Quintet. I attended Harvard College and graduated cum laude with a degree in English, then completed a Master's degree in Jazz Studies at the New England Conservatory, where I studied with luminaries like Jason Moran and John McNeil. While at the conservatory, I also studied singing and songwriting with Dominique Eade and Hankus Netsky and was selected to perform at the 2017 Panama Jazz Festival.

My contemporary jazz quartet project Earprint recei
ved four stars in Downbeat and was named #1 debut album on the NPR Jazz Critic's Poll, and my latest project, an orchestral rock band called Beaverton, released its debut EP in October 2017. I have also recorded and performed with artists such as Esperanza Spalding, Ben Zaidi, and The World Is A Beautiful Place And I Am No Longer Afraid To Die.

I have extensive experience with classical brass pedagogy and several methods of playing, and I am happy to help students polish their technique and develop a huge, warm sound on the instrument. But I am also dedicated to helping musicians explore their creativity, and I have much to offer in the way of improvisation (jazz and not), composition, and songwriting. Just as I value the importance of developing technical skills, I am equally dedicated to helping budding musicians find their voice as artists.
