Joe is an awesome guitarist!! I took lessons from him, and he was really good and knew just how to get me to improve. He also knows a TON about all different kinds of music and music theory--I signed up for guitar, but I ended up learning lots of other useful stuff too. Highly recommended!!!

About Stephanie
Hello, and thank you for your interest!

My name is Stephanie, I am a teaching-artist from El Paso, Texas. I currently reside, perform and teach in the Boston and greater Boston area.

I am a recent graduate of The New England Conservatory of Music with a Masters and Graduate Diploma in Saxophone Performance. I received my Bacherlors in Music Education from New Mexico State University.

“A teaching artist, by definition, is a two-career professional: a working artist and a working educator. As a working artist is they are involved in an ongoing process of discovery, problem solving, discipline and refinement of skills in their discipline. As a working educator, it is essential that the artist is also developing a knowledge base and skills to be an effective partner in education. Achieving a meaningful balance between these two prof
essions, whereby one feeds the other, is an ongoing process that requires a deepening awareness for the teaching artist of what their teaching brings to their art and what their art teaches them about learning.”

I am devoted and dedicated to helping find each of my students' strengths, weaknesses and style of learning. Once I have identified these traits, I am able to develop lessons and repertoire that helps each students become the most efficient learner and best musician they can be.

I pride myself in creating a fun and safe learning environment in which I establish a firm musical foundation for my students. Lessons include: scales, etudes, articulation, dynamic and sight reading exercises, standard repertoire, recording and analyzing performances, music history lessons, and exploration of the sounds, genres and artists of saxophone/flute/clarinet/piano.

Simultaneously, my students cultivate many other skills while learning how to play their instrument. Students enhance their fine motor skills and ability to memorize, students increase their overall self-confidence and become self-sufficient and creative problem solvers. I am passionate about educating and empowering my students and I enjoy connecting with a wide array of musicians of all ages, playing levels and backgrounds.

Feel free to contact me to inquire about lessons, I hope to hear from you soon!

I'm an older student (old actually) who started piano 2 years ago with Stephanie . She is great for a beginning student. Knows how to teach. Is encouraging, but demanding enough to keep me on my toes. Just wonderful and a thoroughly lovely person.

Stephanie is a patient, knowledgeable, enthusiastic educator and collaborator who loves to perform and teach. I had the honor of working with her for nearly four years while we pursued similar degrees at New Mexico State University. She consistently brought a level of maturity and preparedness beyond her age to our rehearsals and practices. If I was limited to only one word to describe her, it would be "professional".

My name is Ali Y, I graduated from Boston University with a master degree in 2017. Before I graduate, I started to teach violin and Mandarin in Takelessons, as you can see in my reviews, I have a very high rating since I started, every student like to play violin with me because I always can see their smile in the lesson.

I’ve begun to study in BU with Professor Bayla Keyes since 2015, in these two years, I’ve learned a lot from her, not only my violin skill but also a lot of teaching methods.

I got my bachelor degree in Renmin University of China, which is one of the best university in China. I had 24 students before I came to the States, several of them won the first prize in different violin competition.

I’m very patient. And I know how to commute with students. Most of my student can learn very fast and be very happy at t
he same time. I hope my student to love music instead of just playing the music.

Hi there, I'm so glad you're here!

I am a supportive and encouraging teacher willing to teach all ages and abilities. It is my firm belief that music is for everyone!

I am currently pursuing my Master of Arts in Teaching at Rhode Island College. I studied Oboe Performance at Longy School of Music for a year before decidingto pursue education further (I love teaching too much!.) I completed my undergraduate work at Rhode Island College, where I studied oboe and bassoon privately. I am currently on the private lesson roster for two public schools in the area, and teach both double-reeded instruments. I have successfully helped young students prepare for and audition into district and all state level ensembles.

I have reed-making experience and can assist students with finicky reeds, to help ease the most frustrating part about pl
aying oboe & bassoon.

I'm looking forward to working with you!

This was my boys first lesson and they loved it. They were so excited after class. Telling me that it felt way to short and that they are eager to have more lessons with Alyssa.
I’m also very pleased as she is a warm and welcoming person and I had an easy time communicating with her about what exactly I am looking for, our schedule, and also difficulties with entering our first lesson.

The boys will definitely, and with joy, continue their music journey with Alyssa.

Are you interested in learning how to play your favorite music on piano? Let's do it! As a full-time working musician in the Boston area, I bring my experience as a composer/arranger and music director. Over the past 4 years, I've worked with children, teenagers, college students, and adults returning to the piano. Although I grew up studying (and loving) classical music, I've also written and performed pop, jazz, celtic, and music theater, in addition to writing music for indie films. I believe in catering to the student's interests while providing a foundation in learning to read music notation, theory, and developing good practice techniques. Please feel free to send me a message if you think we'd be a good match. I look forward to hearing from you!

I decided to turn back to the piano in mid life and could not have done it without Tim. I reached out to Tim based on recommendations and quickly found him to be a fabulous teacher, with all the patience required to excel at instruction. I very much appreciate his insights and low key approach to our lessons. Our weekly lessons were an inspiration to push forward and accelerate my own learning. I highly recommend Tim for anyone interested in excelling in piano.

I started studying piano with Tim once a week in February 2015. I had not studied piano for 50 years and now I am a senior. I am thrilled that I returned to the piano after so many years. I have achieved a lot with him over the last 3 1/2 years. This is due to Tim’s excellent pedagogical techniques in piano study and his great patience. His explanations are extremely clear. Tim makes simplified versions of great pieces for me to work on, thus giving me even more motivation.

I was a professor for 43 years and I am very familiar with the skills that a teacher should have in any discipline. Tim has the really good skills that a piano teacher needs. I recommend him very highly.

My son took piano lesson with Tim for several years, because of a rave recommdation we got about him. My son had taken lessons previously with a teacher at his school, and I observed my son improving much more quickly through his lessons with Tim. Tim has a gentle teaching style, which combines effectively with his skills, proficiency, experience, interest in his students, and his obvious love of music. He was open and welcoming to any musical interest my son had, including different genres of music and even composing his own tunes! I recommend Tim enthusiastically and without any reservation.

Having started my musical path as a singer/soloist in a children's choir "Little Singers of Armenia" I got introduced to the world of classical music from a very young age. At the same time, I was attending a local music school where I would sing jazz and contemporary tunes. My efforts in the choir granted me various concert tours and performances around the world. Among them were recitals and performances in UK, Japan, Sweden, Russia, Georgia, Latvia, etc.

My solo musical journey started at the age of 11 when I won the First Prize in "Singing Armenia" national music festival. My great passion for music was not only limited to singing as I explored choral conducting under the mentorship of notable conductor maestro Tigran Hekekyan. With already 3 first prizes in national festivals I also became the First Prize winner in the contemporar
y vocals category during the "Renaissance" international music festival. In 2016, I started my own band called "The Steps". The band's active tight performing schedule did not stop me from earning my Bachelor's Degree in Arts. Teaching is my passion as I loves sharing ideas and personal experiences with talented people. I consider those interactions to be the key to my success as a singer since many artistic questions find their answers during the teaching process.

I started off with violin at the age of four, and picked up mandolin, guitar, and banjo in my teens. I focused on small ensemble playing, especially competitive string quartet. I bounced around from band to band and touched a lot of different genres. Classical gave me extremely solid technical foundations and practice methods, jazz gave me music theory, I learned rhythm from transcribing math rock guitar solos. I started playing folk music with a Klezmer band on the streets of Chicago -- my first experience making money with music. From there, I branched out into Balkan, Irish, and American folk. As I got older, my interest in the banjo became an obsession as I discovered players like Noam Pikelny, Jens Kruger, and Wes Corbett. I ultimately ended up devoting the majority of my energy to it and it has become my primary instrument.

I was a
FreshGrass Banjo Award finalist in 2017, and you can find some videos of my playing on jameshanford.org.
