"I took lessons with Penny for about 6 months in mid-2014. She was recommended to me by a friend who auditioned several instructors before choosing Penny.
From my perspective as an individual who took classical piano lessons for 11 years, I can say that Penny is a very kind, attentive, encouraging, and skilled instructor. I had been singing (untrained) in a band for many years before beginning lessons, my vocal tone and technique both improved by what I consider to be a large margin.

handle 'Thias the way Michael does. Somehow he seems to always be a step ahead of his young student and has a distinct ability to keep 'Thias focused on the lesson. Mathias has learned so much in the last four weeks, his playing sounds much more mature and organized and he is enraptured with the music he is making. I have always had to keep an eye on the lesson to make sure that Mathias was engaged. Somehow I do not feel the need to do that anymore. *** Lesson Details *** My lessons are tailored to the needs and interests of each student. If a student is involved in school music ensembles, we will work with their lesson books from school in addition to material outside of the books, including SmartMusic, Noteflight, and teacher-created materials. We will focus on building proper tone production and individual technique - something that often is difficult to learn in a large ensemble setting.
I am capable of starting a beginner student on any band instrument including percussion, any classical string instrument (violin, viola, cello, string bass), and piano. I can begin a student on drum set and work with them through their first method book, but I would then recommend they find a specialized drum set teacher after a period of six to twelve months.
For advanced students, I work from selected conservatory etude books on developing advanced skills and can work with students on audition pieces for honors bands/orchestras or college auditions.
My lessons are a half-hour once a week, with the option of working for 45 minutes or 60 minutes.
Mr. West is great.He is my teacher at my school and has helped both my cello playing and my Trombone Improv so much. He is really knowledgeable and dedicated to helping his students excel in their area of interest.

We have found Mr. West to be knowledgeable, patient, and very good with advanced beginner/intermediate young musicians. (My son is 12 and fairly new to the trombone.) Mr. West is organized, professional, and has a good step-by-step plan for improving their playing. We recommend him highly!
Brad's understanding of music runs deeper then just knowledge of the fingerboard and instrument. His mix of philosophy, music, and humor makes him a unique and well rounded teacher for students of all ages. I am a former student of New England Conservatory along with Brad and I played several gigs with him. Brad has a great demeanor and he's very easy to work with. I never thought I would confidently understand music theory, even after years of practice, self-teaching, college electives, etc... I just never felt like I "got" it. Brad changed all that. Studying music theory with Brad's guidance and encouragement, I quickly began to feel as though I could "speak" music fluently.
Brad is a phenomenal teacher, and can adapt to almost any situation. If I wasn't understanding something, he never got frustrated, he would find a way to explain it differently until something finally stuck. That's very important I think. I've had too many teachers give up and say, "If you don't get this, you never will." Brad doesn't think like that. To him, "just not getting it" isn't an option. If you want to learn something, he'll find a way to teach it to you.

I studied music theory with Brad my senior year of high school, and it was the best decision I could have made! Brad fully prepared me for college-level theory at a conservatory, and I have excelled as a performer because of the great theory background Brad provided me with. My Name is Mason and I've been teaching music to students of all ages since I was 14. I originally taught at a facility near Reading, PA called Zeswitz. While I worked there I studied along side other seasoned professionals in genres like jazz, heavy metal and folk styles. Currently I run a small business. My experience, since I was 8 years old, was built on private lessons from select very accomplished and certified guitarists.
