Rosa was warm and welcoming to start and explained the basics of breathing and breath support (which I desperately need) clearly and with patience. She was encouraging and positive throughout the lesson. I'm looking forward to my next session!

Christien B.

Waltham, MA

About Christien

Hi! I recently earned a degree in Early Music Voice from the Longy School of Music of Bard College, and have studied voice with private teachers intermittently over the past two decades. I would like to aid those students who are interested in learning about music from medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque periods.

I also have a Master's in Cello Performance, and can teach cello at the beginner to upper intermediate level! My experience in teaching is with modern (standard) cello, but I can also teach the basics of baroque cello (with gut strings and a baroque bow). Gut strings can be finicky
, but their sound is warm and expressive. If you are interested to know more, just drop me a note! Another instrument I can teach is the Viola da Gamba, a very interesting early 6- or 7-string instrument with gut strings. (That's the instrument I'm holding in my profile picture!) This instrument is a bit like a cello crossed with a guitar. It's played with a bow, but the neck has frets. Playing the "gamba" (or "viol") can be a gymnastics workout for the left hand, but once you get the hang of it, you can play beautiful chords. This is the instrument that is featured in the French film "Tous les matins du monde".

Aside from music, I have taught English as a Foreign and Second Language (in Bulgaria with Peace Corps, in New Mexico with Berlitz, at the U. of New Mexico). I would be very pleased to help students of any age with reading, listening comprehension, and writing!

Ronald K.

Shrewsbury, MA

About Ronald

I am a conservatory trained (St. Olaf College BM, Peabody Conservatory MM) professional oboe player. I played for many years in the Boston Philharmonic Orchestral and am currently the second oboe in Symphony New Hampshire. I have free-lanced around the greater Boston area since 1987 playing orchestral music and chamber music professionally. I have also taught oboe students since 1987. Much of the teaching was through public school systems such as Newton, Natick, Concord and Shrewsbury. I have a room in my house dedicated to music. It has separate access from the rest of our house (our do
g and my own kids!) I do love sharing music with people of all ages. My students get not only advice on how to play the oboe but also a perspective of music history and theory in so far as it pertains to the music one is learning.

Mr. Kaye has been teaching my 11 year old daughter since mid June (6 weeks). He has great knowledge and has helped my daughter correct bad habits she picked up for past 2 years from her previous teacher. She has gained greater respect and understanding of Oboe.

Mr. Kaye is an incredible Oboist and is very easy going. He treats my daughter as budding talent and has patience. He encourages her and praises her. It is a pleasure to watch my daughter progress.

My daughter and I would highly recommend Mr. Kaye to anybody who wants to learn to play an oboe.

Victor M.

Brighton, MA

About Victor

My name is Victor and I have been actively teaching cello for the past 4 years. In Ames, IA I had a studio of 8 students, all ranging from different age groups and abilities. I also have experience teaching online lessons, which require a slightly different approach than normal in person lessons. I recently moved to Boston to pursue my masters degree in cello performance at The Boston Conservatory. I am looking forward to building a studio here in Boston! My goal as a teacher is to help you achieve your musical goals. I try my absolute hardest to create a warm and positive environment for all
of my students. I understand that all of my students are different and I make sure to create individual lesson plans for each of my students. Not only will you grow as a musician and as a cellist, but I believe that learning an instrument gives us skills that can be beneficial in every aspect of our daily lives. Whether you are new to the cello, picking it back up after some time off, or at a more advanced level, I hope to hear from you! If you have any questions at all, please send me an email. I look forward to hearing from you!

I have been a student of music for many years with piano and violin. This year it was time for a change. Taking on cello with Victor has been the best experience. He is kind, patient and provides a wonderful learning environment. Although my lessons are done online it seems no different then if he were standing in my living room! I would encourage anyone to take cello lessons from Victor as he teaches a unique way with every student. By the end of your first lesson you will love what you learn and practice to get better. It has been super fun and I look forward to learning more!

Victor was on time and very friendly. My daughter happily jumped right into playing.

The best review I can give is that this morning after the lesson, unbidden, she picked up her cello and practiced for the few minutes she had between breakfast and leaving for the bus. That is inspiration. What could be better that that?!
