Hello! My name is Estela, and I've been teaching private lessons since 2001. I enjoy helping students create beautiful music, develop good techniques, and play along with any song through improvisation. I have played violin for over 22 years including orchestras, string ensembles, church worship bands, and weddings and special occasions.

I have an undergraduate degree in psychology with a minor in violin from Louisiana State University and a master's degree in education from the University of Texas at Austin. I have also worked for 6 years as an ESL teacher and am very patient with new learners, immigrants/foreigners, and kids.

*** Lesson Details ***
Not only am I a trained singer, I am also an actor. I understand what it is to communicate and show emotion while singing. Before you can do this, you must also learn healthy singing technique. I will help blend the two.

The first half of each lesson will be dedicated to vocal exercises with the second half to songs I recommend or from your own repertoire. My recommendations may be from a different style of music than you are accustomed to, but I will be working towards helping you sing the style you want to sing.

Every voice is different. As a teacher I want to make sure that my students understand and are comfortable with what they are feeling and hearing. While I am an easy going person, I work very hard to help students find the right path to healthy vocal production.

Amy is a tremendously patient and wonderful teacher who engages her students in finding solutions. What an excellent quality as a teacher - it ensures the student is actively thinking of the problem and concentrates more on the solution (even if the technique is hard to master). She presents the material and works over it again and again to be sure the student is set for the weeks success. Amy also has the finest teaching quality in finding the good in the students work even when pointing out all the areas for improvement would be the easy route. Pointing out the good qualities makes these qualities much strong and gives a sense of pride to the student for their hours of work.

About Paul Jared
Hi, I am a native New Yorker and a guitar player since age 13. I played in blues/rock bands throughout my teens, getting to play the legendary clubs of my Greenwich Village neighborhood. My discovery of Spanish classical guitar music occurred in college at UC Berkeley, and I graduated with a BA in Music, then spent two years playing in Europe, before returning home and forming the band Not Heaven; we played the club circuit, Danceteria to CBGB.

I also began teaching at the American Institute of Guitar in NYC, and writing guitar instruction books (still in print!). Along the way I did a Master’s in Guitar Performance at Stony Brook, and have continued to publish, perform and teach the music which inspires me.

Classical and Flamenco music are my primary involvement, as a teacher, performer and composer.

We will learn basic breath technique, fingering, and easy songs through playing the games. Students will able to self-evaluate their song quality, rhythm, and articulation through the rubric and recording.

About Allyson
Allyson has loved piano for her whole life. Having taught herself the basics, she began taking formal lessons at age 12. She received a full piano scholarship to college where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Piano Performance. She has worked in schools as well as with private students ranging from age 3 to senior adult.

Each student learns at a different pace because everyone is unique! As a seasoned teacher of almost 20 years, she tailors the lessons to each student's preference without sacrificing a solid, theoretical foundation. Her students have said of her, "She has an obvious passion for what she does and for music in general. That passion is infectious, and it inspired me to practice harder at times and to grow my love for playing as she has." They have also said, "She was always very encouraging and gave me tips to improve
my individual practice techniques. Not only that, but she also has incredible patience and understanding."

Allyson is an amazing teacher!! She is is incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and NURTURING. She has the ability to explain difficult tasks in a logical and systematic way. Things that seemed impossible become possible with Allyson; she teaches her students to take difficult pieces apart and analyze them, learning them slowly and thoroughly.

Mrs. Allyson taught my son Bryce how to play piano. He learned a lot from her in his short time of playing the piano. We miss her teaching him. We love and miss you Mrs. Allyson. Bryce learned so much from you. Mrs. Allyson is a great teacher. She understands her students and takes the time to listen and answer and go over what they are playing.

To me, there are few things that are more rewarding then seeing someone take on a new idea and make it their own.
I am primarily a musician, working in the city but find that teaching others both the language of music and my native tongue, Spanish, are a fascinating and positive way to give back to my community.
Creativity, honesty, and patience are the pillars I work off of; and I know full well that each person requires something different of me, so I will always work towards tailoring the learning process to you and your needs.
