• Work on your singing in a warm, friendly and private studio with an experienced teacher that makes singing fun! Students of all ages are always welcome!
• Member of the National Association For Teachers of Singing (the only selective professional organization for Voice Teachers) whose mission is: To encourage the highest standards of the vocal art and of ethical principles in the teaching of singing; and to promote vocal education and research at all levels, both for the enrichment of the general public and for the professional advancement of the talented.
• Voice students learn more then just how to sing, they learn how to be performers and musicians.
• I will not take on a student I cannot help.
• Voice students have MANY performance opportunities offered to them that are appropriate for their level
My unique studio uses the basics of Bel Canto technique to teach all styles of music to all ages. Parents often comment on how much fun their students have in lessons, while getting feedback from outside professionals (adjudicators, directors, etc) on how much their technique has improved. Adult students are commonly shocked by how easy singing can feel as they meet their career goals.
Current students can be seen performing with: America's Got Talent! Hardrock Cafe LAS VEGAS! Broadway Bound Bellevue Opera Puget Sound Concert Opera Seattle Gilbert and Sullivan 5th Avenue Theater Theater Schmeater 13 Coins Hwy 99 Blues Club The Showbox Chop Suey Dicken's Carolers And MORE!
I realize that voice lessons can be REALLY scary and I totally understand why, especially for kids and beginners! I do my best to use modern psycology and technology to help my beginning students feel confortable in what can be a frightening new endeavor.
Personal Performance Experience: Extensive lead and supporting opera performing experience with Bellevue Opera, Puget Sound Concert Opera, Skagit Opera, Tacoma Opera, Portland Opera,Seattle Gilbert and Sullivan, Seattle Opera and Seattle Youth Symphony. Prior to that spent 7 years performing Jazz and Gospel and 10 years in musical theater.
Personal Education: BA in Music from Seattle Pacific University 2002, MM in Opera Performance (Unfinished due to 1 year of German) at University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana.
Teaching Experience: 8 years as a private voice teacher in my own studio, 3.5 years teaching opera workshops throughout the USA, 2 years working in studio with local bands as a 'fixer.'
Have you tried lessons before and felt unsuccessful?
Not all students learn the same way and for years voice teachers have been treating every student as an aural learner. What I have found is that students with a history of struggling with matching pitch simply need to be taught in a different manner. That is why I now ask students to take a voluntary learning style inventory prior to their first lesson.
Visual Learner? Not a problem when "Adam" started with me he could only match pitch 30% of the time. But after finding that he needed to see concepts in order to learn them I have now made all of his lesson visually based and he is now averaging 90% pitch accuracy 3 months later.
Kinisthetic Learner? I had the hardest time helping "Clark" learn new music until we realized that by taking the time to have him play his parts himself on the piano he could learn them in minutes. He just is a person that learns by doing and now that we know that, music has become so much less frustrating for him.
Physical Learner? With "Steve" the traditional 'visualization' style of teaching that most voice teachers start with just wasn't helping him improve his sound and reach the high notes we both knew he had. After we figured out that he needed large muscle movements to understand concepts I added the use of a resistance band to his lessons. He has had so much success with this technique that he 'stole' my resistance band so he could use it in recording sessions and before he got on stage.
The stories just go on and on.
CURRENT AND FORMER STUDENT REFERENCES AVAILABLE!
*** Lesson Details *** Students help structure their lessons by providing a general overview of their goals during their first lesson. Just as not everyone's voice sounds the same, neither does everyone's lesson!
A typical lesson begins with vocal warm-ups specifically targeted to strengthen the students technique and help them learn more about their voices capabilities. Next students work on songs of their choosing, that help them develop the freedom of voice, control, stamina and overall vocal health that they will need to be confident in their performing.
Additional opportunities for performance are provided for students as desired. These may include Karaoke Nights (for adult beginners), no-stress recitals, studio sing-a-longs, community choirs and small roles in local productions.

Carla is a teacher who focuses on each individual student. I have observed the results of her students’ success in multiple music genres. I have studied with Carla for classical training, musical theater, jazz, and audition prep, and have seen positive results in each of these areas. Carla really works to make sure her students gain experience (she often arranges public performance opportunities at venues such as coffee shops, etc.) and she makes sure her students are aware of (and prepared for) upcoming auditions. Each lesson is followed up with an email from Carla re-capping the main points stressed in that lesson. I highly recommend Carla, whether you are a beginner or a seasoned performer.
A passionate educator and Suzuki trained teacher, I teach individual and group classes with Suzuki Strings of Austin, violin and viola students at Bedichek Middle School, and run a private violin and viola home studio in Austin and online.
In violin lessons with me, you can expect the focus to go far beyond the technical aspects of the violin, encouraging each student to flourish and reach their full potential. I believe that every student has the ability, drive, and capacity to succeed at, love, and learn from the violin. Whether you're an adult new to the instrument, a young child trying out music lessons for the first time, or an older student returning to the instrument after a few years off, violin lessons will serve as a meaningful musical outlet, a way to discover self-directed learning, and a way to engage with an entire commun

The first song I learned to play was "Pipeline." I own and play several acoustic an

I am a current Music Education major at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, pursuing a minor in Psychology. Before that, I attended West Aurora High School in Aurora, IL as the principal trumpet player in the concert and jazz setting, and was a trumpet section leader and drum major of the 300+ member marching band. I earned the John Phillip Sousa Band Award and the Semper Fidelis Marine Corps Musical Excellence Award for leadership, musical talent, and dedication in music. I was privately taught for many years under Dr. Rod C. Schueller, a leader in trumpet and music education who formerly taught at Michigan State, Texas State, and Northern Illinois University. I currently study under prestigious trumpet professors Ronald Romm and Charles Daval. I graduated in the top 1% of my high school class. As well, I attended and worked at
the prestigious Smith Walbridge Drum Major Camp, where I earned my 1st class rank nationally as a leader in teaching music and marching band methods.
I have been tutoring trumpet for 5 years, and have been playing for 10. I have taught between the ages of 9 and 17, and have experience teaching beginning trumpet up to classical and jazz music at the high school, college, and professional level. Teaching is one of the greatest experiences I have ever had, and doing what I love for the rest of my life is a blessing in itself!
With my students, I work on creating a positive and comfortable playing environment so that the student feels safe making mistakes and asking questions. The only way to grow as a player is find the confidence to fail. As brass players, we need diligence, patience, and strong work ethic to improve, and a safe place to gain these skills is essential to every student. I want to get to know exactly how the student plays and what their goals are so I can work with them on achieving and exceeding them; success at ANY level is the key to staying motivated and excited to play! Learning how to play an instrument or get better at it goes far beyond simple instruction- it comes from a connection to making music and a joyful willingness to mess up sometimes! That's how we grow.
I volunteered with Barrington Children Choir as a Vocal Role Model for 4th-7th grader while I sang with their Chamber Choir (8th-12th grade). I am a former After School Program Staff member for Boys and Girls Club (1st-5th grade) where I was taught how to create lesson plans and began tutoring in regular academic subjects. Currently, I teach at voice lessons at two music studios in Hoffman Estates and East Dundee.
I recently graduated with my Associate in Fine Arts in Music from Harper College. I am currently attending Northeastern Illinois University to receive my degree in Music Education.
Please feel free to contact me about lessons! I would love to hear from you! I will try to get back to you as soon as possible!

"David is a world-class musician with the rare ability to communicate the most complex musical ideas clearly and simply to students of all ages. Within the
first hour of the first lesson, David helped our son, then age 12, identify technical issues that were causing him problems and stripped away bad habits that were holding him back. With David's professional guidance in both drums and percussion, our son's progress has been remarkable. In our son's own words: “David is creative with a good sense of humor, which always makes lessons fun.” We cannot recommend him more highly."
"Matthew is a great teacher. He is very knowledgeable & patient. He always answers my son’s questions, gives him advise and homework. My son has learned a

Kids are much more likely to practice drums when they're having fun, and that starts with song selection. Here, San Diego, CA drum teacher Maegan W. shares some easy drum songs that are kid tested and parent approved...
If you want to keep your child interested in playing drums and motivated to practice, you have to make sure they're having fun. So many music teachers are stuck in the past when it comes to choosing practice songs, but that's boring for kids.
