Cory B.

Signal Hill, CA

About Cory

I am a classically trained bassoonist with a Master's degree from London's Royal College of Music. I love finding each student's own learning style to tailor the experience, and I encourage my students to make their own decisions about musical expression (with plenty of guidance, of course!).

In my work as a performer I have played with orchestras all over the world, from the South London Sinfonia to the Bombay Chamber Orchestra. My musical life is full of variety, and I think that the experiences I've had as a musician make me a creative and thoughtful teacher.

*** Lesson Details ***

I wouldn't call myself strict, but I do have high standards. I expect my students to put in the work at home, so that we can get the most out of lesson time, but I think that my expectations are realistic. After all, we all have busy lives, and even if you haven't had time to prepare we can always have a productive lesson.

We will learn simple tunes in the very first lesson, and I will always balance technical exercises with fun. (Though I do think a lot of exercises are fun too!) After a few months we will have a solid foundation of music theory and will have developed your music reading abilities considerably. We will have worked on a great technical foundation of scales and exercises, so that your fingers won't fail you. We will also be delving in to longer and more complex tunes, and considering the possibility of some form of casual public or in-home performance, for you to show your family and friends what you've learned!

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect students to have their own instruments and music.

Wonderful violin teacher, the best I have ever had. Very patient, although I am an adult student, re-beginning to play. Showed me things that I have done wrong for years in one session.

Joe is a wonderful teacher. He is very knowledgeable and experienced and generous in sharing what he knows with the student. He takes the time to patiently explain each step of the lesson for the day and is happy to answer any questions I may have. I also appreciate that he’s thoughtful and just a really good human being. I’m grateful to be able to take lessons from him. With Joe’s help, I’m looking forward to becoming the best drummer I can be!

Joe is a great instructor. I took lessons with him when I was 19 and then stopped. I hit a wall in my progress and was feeling uninspired for months. I was split in so many directions, I was not making any significant progress. I tried online for a while and then it hit me. Go see Joe again. I did and within the first week I was back on track.

If you are a new drummer, go see Joe! I remember when I was first learning from Joe. His teaching style makes it easy to learn.

If you are a drummer who is stuck in a rut and can't progress. Go see Joe. He'll get you back on track.

I won't stop now. I will continue to train with Joe until the student has out-mastered the master.

Eulis K.

Anaheim, CA

About Eulis

--------------- I also teach Online via Skype or FaceTime! --------------------
Hello! Thanks for visiting my Takelessons profile. Let me start off by telling you a bit about myself:
I have been performing for over 20 years as a musician, acting since I was a small boy, and working consistently with public speaking, accent reduction and other presentational skills throughout my career. I started my musical education as a woodwind player and settled in to the wonderful world of singing over time. Music has opened me up to so many incredible opportunities from touring the world to performin
g in marvelous concert halls and working with some of today's most respected artists, as well as giving me the opportunity to expand my performance skills through acting in various plays, musicals, television, and film.

Performing has absolutely been my salvation! Throughout my life it has been a best friend and constant source of joy, and I share this gift with others so that it might help them to find the same joy. After more than 10 years of teaching, I have so many new experiences to draw from and share with my students. I've spent the last 8 years performing with Disney in Anaheim and abroad in their Tokyo Disney cast, and I must say that those experiences, vast and varied as they are, have given the word "performance" a new depth. I'm always excited to dive into every lesson with fresh ideas that will mesh well with many tried and tested teaching techniques.

Originally from Los Angeles, I now reside in Orange County and I'm especially proud to have expanded my studio to serving clients all over the world with online lessons via Skype and FaceTime! I get such joy from sharing my experiences with a diverse group of people from all walks of life.
If you're interested in learning more about my lesson style, feel free to contact me and I'd be happy to talk with you about a plan to help you reach your goals!

For Students of Voice: Teaching Style

Over the past several years I have focused much of my personal growth on developing my ears' ability to pick out and pinpoint vocal “placement”, resonance, subtleties of timbre, changes in pitch, breath support, air speed and flow, pronunciation and diction, and in general, the way in which all of these work together to create style. From these assessments, I work with the student’s particular needs to address each area individually and based on the learning style of each person.
To illustrate to the student their method as I see and hear it, as well as ways in which they might make changes to facilitate the ease of singing --be they changes of tessitura (range), length of phrase, tone color, the release of unnecessary tension etc.-- I make use of vocalise (vocal exercises), simile and metaphor, examples from recorded performances, demonstration, self assessment, and techniques to “trick” the voice into acting in a different way, in addition to videos, diagrams, and texts on anatomy and physiology. I feel that all of these tools provide a unique and personalized learning experience for each student.

After working with Eulis for 7 months my voice has undergone a complete transformation. It's clearer and stronger than I could have imagined in such a short time. Working with Eulis is very collaborative, he works with me to make sure singing is easy, efficient, and most importantly comfortable. I can tell he has a wide range of experience and influences because he's good at explaining how to achieve a different sound or style while maintaining good technique. He is very passionate about the voice and is always eager to help make wonderful music.
