Emma M.

Cypress, CA

About Emma

I am a piano teacher, classically trained. I started my music education at the age of 7, at the Odessa College of Music in Ukraine. At age 16 I was accepted to the highly prestigious Odessa University of Music, where later I received my BA degree in Piano Pedagogy and Performance, Summa Cum Laude. I then decided to further my education and take a 2 year Piano Performance course at the Odessa Conservatory. For over 30 years thereafter, I am teaching students of all ages. I look to develop problem solving, multitasking and other intangible life skills for my younger students through the power o
f music. For my adult students, I look to reduce stress and keep their brains working like new. Regardless of age, I work very hard to improve all of my student's memory, brain function, coordination and most importantly teach them how to simply have fun!
I believe that all students can thrive in a learning environment that is stimulating, comforting and appropriate to their abilities.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons are designed based on famous methods of teaching to meet the individual needs and desires of each student.
I am always very patient and will take it as slow as each of my students needs to make sure that he or she understands everything of what is being presented.
I am growing up with the students, building a proper relationship with them and helping them develop life skills through music. I hope for all my students that they will indeed develop skills and attributes through the music experience they have with me.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Upright Piano, Baby Grand Kawaii for Recitals

*** Travel Equipment ***
Student must provide piano in their home for piano lessons. Must have parking available

*** Specialties ***
I am using Alfred's Music for Little Mozarts, Alfred Piano, Bastien Piano, Piano Adventures by Nancy and Randall Faber, Thompson Modern course for beginners. I provide my student with a variety of music styles: classical, jazz, musicals/movie. Also, I introduce them to piano duets. These duets are very useful as supplementary material in a piano program, musically rewarding, and very motivational. I offer preparation to the ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) examinations.

Miss Emma is an amazing teacher. She is challenging and nurturing. I particularly love her ability to select the perfect songs for my children. She is also amazing with coaching them on their performance from start to finish- from the second they kids get on stage until the minute they get off, they are focused and confident because of her preparation! We are so thankful to have her as a teacher. My children push themselves hard to impress her because they love her like family!

My son is 9 and he has been taking lessons from Miss Emma for the past year and a half. We love her. She is very dedicated to her craft and to her students. She has worked very closely with our son and he has improved tremendously while working with her. She truly cares about him and goes out of her way to make him the best that he can be. I cannot say enough good things about her.

Jean D.

Anaheim, CA

About Jean

If you or your child is interested in taking piano/keyboard, guitar, voice lessons, or if your child is in need of academic tutoring, I would really like to be your instructor! You have the option of my traveling to your home, or you are welcome to my home studio, conveniently located in Anaheim.

To tell you a little about myself, I was raised in a musical family introduced to music at a very young age. I took piano, organ, guitar, glockenspiel, and voice lessons for many years, and participated in music recitals.

I enjoyed singing, and with my music theory background, participated in
vocal/piano recitals, involved myself in every school musical, joined every choir, participated in out-of-state voice sight reading competitions, and ultimately joined the New York All State Choir.

After graduating from school, I focused on teaching children how to read sheet music and play the piano and guitar within parochial schools, public elementary schools, private in-home lessons, and instructed adults for the Continuing Education Music Programs located within Rockland County, New York and Orange County, California.

Regarding my experience as an academic tutor, I currently tutor students through the No Child Left Behind Program, private tutoring for Special Education students, and home schooled my child through the Anaheim Independent Study Program from 9th grade through her successful 12th grade graduation. I am very familiar with elementary and high school grade multiple subjects, the online technology for education, and the study/assignment criteria. This is a wonderful tool to enhance students Grade Average, SAT and Exit Exam Scores.

In understanding the value of tutoring a child that is exhibiting difficulty in a subject matter, the evidence shows a significant increase in student aptitude when placed with a tutor.

I look forward to meeting you, and getting you started on your way to a lifetime of much fulfillment.

*** Lesson Details ***
The goal of music/academic education is to empower the student to experience learning as a source of personal enrichment, a vehicle for the constructive expression of human emotions, and as a unique intellectual discipline. This goal will be attained through a structured, sequential program of study:

- Motivate all students to engage in the learning process designed individually through text or on-line.
- An ability to establish and maintain high standards for student performance.
- A demonstration of deep knowledge of the subject taught and the use of appropriate instructional strategies that promote student understanding.
- An ability to plan and implement a sequence of appropriate instructional activities.
- An ability to evaluate and assess student achievement and areas of improvement.
- Communicate effectively with students and parents presenting goals clearly.

Each student interested in expanding their knowledge and abilities in voice, piano/keyboard or guitar will be introduced to reading music and asked to practice the lesson plan each week at home. With practice, you will see your abilities grow stronger and stronger, and you will be able to play and sing along to music with ease.

We will be working from lesson books specifically designed for you, and each weekly lesson will be documented in a notebook as a daily practice reference guide.

Through active involvement, you will build a foundation for a lifetime of participation and enjoyment in music, and at the same time have fun while learning.

Music and Academic Education help develop self confidence, and within a very short time you will be amazed at your own abilities!

Ian B.

La Mirada, CA

About Ian

I am a pianist. I am also a keyboardist, programmer, and music producer. But the title I probably most identify with is "composer." I realized early on that my own passion for performing was fueled by my hunger to actually CREATE music. So I set out to learn from the masters. I won competitions and scholarships in high school, then double-majored in piano and composition at the University of Kansas where I obtained my bachelor's degree before going on to record, write, and produce rock & electronic dance music.

I love being a CREATOR of music; and that love just extends quite naturally int
o the collaborative creative process we have come to know as "œteaching." There is no greater joy than creating music...except maybe seeing someone else I have trained and inspired create something of their own...on their own...without my help.

*** Lesson Details ***
My specialty is empowering students with the tools to become not only a pianist, but a...
-musician,
-songwriter,
-composer,
-producer,
-and more!

My students develop a holistic, artistic point of view of the world. They also gain self confidence and self-esteem as they learn to TEACH THEMSELVES more and more. I can help you or your child reach these goals in a way that will have you falling in love with the music and worrying less about the challenges of practice and discipline. Just like anything in life, playing an instrument requires a focused mind and hard work. But when you're having the time of your life, you do not even notice the distinction between work and play.

The way I teach focuses on each individual student's personality. I try to tailor lessons and assignments to each student, as well as introduce them to a variety of music styles. It all starts with your first lesson, where I will generate a "playlist" of songs and styles that each student and their family have already familiarized themselves with. Whatever style of music you listen to the most - whether it be Classical, Jazz, Rock, Pop, Broadway, or even Electronic Dance Music (one of my personal favs!) - the songs on your playlist will reflect a very personal profile of aspirations and inspirations - your unique musical personality and culture. I will take that personality as a starting point and develop a lesson plan that will ultimately have you learning some of your favorite songs RIGHT AWAY!....

That's right, not in 3-6 months after hours of scales and practice. I believe that everything you need to learn is already INSIDE THE MUSIC. And so we'll start playing REAL MUSIC, RIGHT FROM THE BEGINNING. Sound like fun?

Depending on each student's individual goals and speed of learning, I can also:
-expose you to new music and musical styles,
-give you the tools to learn ANY song by ear,
-show you how to read musical notation without it feeling like a foreign language
-help you write your first song or composition (of many!)

*** Studio Equipment ***
Full sized (88 keys), touch sensitive digital piano with weighted keys. Computer workstation with lab software and DAW (Ableton and Reaper).

*** Travel Equipment ***
Students need to have an instrument. Preferably a piano or keyboard with at least 60 keys. I provide everything else. Curriculum and repertoire will be either purchased directly by student or invoiced as needed.

*** Specialties ***
Classical, Pop, Rock, Modern, Electronic Dance Music (EDM)

Joe is a great instructor. I took lessons with him when I was 19 and then stopped. I hit a wall in my progress and was feeling uninspired for months. I was split in so many directions, I was not making any significant progress. I tried online for a while and then it hit me. Go see Joe again. I did and within the first week I was back on track.

If you are a new drummer, go see Joe! I remember when I was first learning from Joe. His teaching style makes it easy to learn.

If you are a drummer who is stuck in a rut and can't progress. Go see Joe. He'll get you back on track.

I won't stop now. I will continue to train with Joe until the student has out-mastered the master.
