About Paul
I have played the guitar for twenty years and have studied a wide variety of music including jazz, classical, folk, blues and rock. I’m skilled in acoustic, electric and classical styles of the guitar. I have an open mind about music and can appreciate any style or type. I have a firm background on music theory, so I am able to explain what I am teaching. I excelled in all my classes in college, music and Gen Eds, with a GPA over 3.75. I also have experience in teaching guitar or bass to students ranging from the ages of six to sixty six. I enjoy taking what I have learned and passing it on to someone else to experience. I believe this is one way you can leave your mark in music. I believe the experience I have playing in bands, and learning songs with my ability of having relative pitch will make my students improve quicker. I am a
lso a very skilled sight reader and can recognize key signatures and musical notation. I’ve also been playing electric bass guitar for 13 years now and have the same skill set as my guitar playing. In fact I am hired to perform more often as a bassist than a guitarist.
I went to Columbia College between 2000-2003 and I completed a Bachelor Arts in Music, Concentration: Instrument Performance.
I also went to Harper College between 1997-2000 and I completed an Associates in Fine Arts of Music.

*** Lesson Details ***
I tailor all my lessons to the individual students interests and wants.
Whatever your goals are, I'll help you get there.
If you just want to learn music theory or how to write a song, I can teach you all that and more.
I will teach you how to read music but if you don't wan't to do that, I will teach you how to read tablature.
I'll push you to learn your instrument and to practice but I won't force to practice anything that you are not interested in.
After about 3-6 months of lessons with me you will be able to play songs that you wanted to learn and you will also know all the essential fun basics of your instrument.
Learning the guitar or bass is fun! And as your teacher I will make you want to practice.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lessons will be downstairs which has music stands, guitars, cords and books.

*** Travel Equipment ***
My guitar and music stand. They should have a guitar and an amp if needed.

*** Specialties ***
Anything from classic rock to blues, jazz, classical, modern rock, punk rock, music theory, improvising and songwriting.

I've had 4 lessons with Paul and they've been very good. I've had 4 other teachers over the years but Paul had tailored the lessons to my goals as a student rather than feeding me random information. He's very knowledgeable and his ear training is excellent. He's easy to work with and helpful. Highly recommended.

I told Paul that my goal is to be able to pick up the guitar at home or with friends and feel comfortable playing along. After 4 lessons I'm playing 12 bar blues, comfortable with several scales, and even writing my own chord progressions. Not only a good teacher he's been very accommodating to my work/travel schedule.

About Kate
Growing up, I participated in every musical activity I could find: from choir to handbells, concert bands to jazz bands, and marching bands to rock bands. I love many genres of music, but I decided to focus on classical clarinet performance in college. I graduated from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 2007 with a B.M. in Clarinet Performance. I also continued studying bass guitar and piano at UIUC.

While still in high school, I began teaching private clarinet lessons to younger students. Teaching helped me become a better player and leader. In college, I ran woodwind sectionals at an Urbana middle school. In 2007, I started teaching general music, piano, and violin in Chicago Public Schools.

I appreciate the freedom private lessons offer me to tailor each lesson to the individual student. There are many ways of learn
ing, and at least as many ways of teaching. My goal as a teacher is to pass on lessons of patience, creativity, appreciation, confidence and dedication to my students. I hope my students will apply these lessons to their musical studies and throughout all areas of their lives.

Music has been an incredibly powerful force in my life, and it is my passion to share that power through instruction and performance.

***Lesson Details ***

I want my students to leave their lessons with skills and confidence that will help them in all areas of life. It is important to me that I give my students the ability to keep learning outside of our lessons. I believe that music is an art form that can be enjoyed by all!

Working with beginners is my specialty. I understand that each student learns differently, and finding the right method for my students is very important to me. The fundamentals learned in the first year of piano benefit any new musician, and can be applied to other instrumental studies.

Piano and clarinet lessons begin with an assessment of ability and setting of goals. I like to use the Faber and Faber piano series with most of my piano students. All lessons are a combination of theory, instrumental/performance technique, and ear training.

About Jon
Jon N. was born and raised in Mexico City and is proudly an American citizen. He has been performing since the age of three, on several instruments, studying music since fourteen, and still takes lessons to this day. What's not to love?

He is proud to teach at all levels, including many professional musicians with master’s degrees, adult beginners, and of course, kids of all ages between 8 and 75.

They are encouraged to select the music they want to learn, so we have worked on classical music and original compositions, which I also coach, jazz, blues, pop, rock, the Great American Songbook, reggae, seven different kinds of Jewish music, and other ethnic music from all over the globe.

Frequently the younger students will request a tune I've never heard, but I magically transform the MP3 into a handwritten score at the student's l
evel. Example, one of my adult beginners wanted to play the big symphonic poem Scheherazade, and I wrote out the main tunes for easy piano.

Paul is a very talented educator. I am in a unique situation, needing to learn guitar for my job. After working with Paul, my lessons have become the highlight of my week. I am eager to practice and work on new techniques he introduces to my skillset. He works very hard, so I always appreciate when he is flexible with my changing schedule. Paul is a phenomenal instructor with the personality and charisma it takes to teach such a distinguished instrument. Whether you are trying to learn 3 chords to impress a special someone or you have a nerve racking collegiate performance, Paul will be able to help. There is a list of qualities that come to mind when I think of the best instructors I've had and Paul checks off all those things. He is extremely helpful, he is mindful of your wants and needs in parallel to your skill level, he has a gift for attention to detail, he is passionate about the subtle art of the guitar, and he pushes you as a musician in discipline and skill. Highly recommended and easily works with your schedule.

Josh has been a fantastic Instructor for my middle school age son. He worked closely with him on several pieces that were required to audition at two summer music camps helping him to move from near last position the year before to the top of the class. His improvements were formally recognized with an award at the end of 7th grade and I think Josh was a large part of that improvement. We were saddened to hear that Josh would be leaving the Denver area but wish him the best of success in his new ventures. Josh is an excellent instructor and we would certainly work with him again in the future.

I have been playing bass for over 15 years. I received my Bachelor of Music degree from St. Olaf College, playing with the St. Olaf Orchestra. In the orchestra, I toured around the United States and to China. My senior year, I performed as a soloist on the orchestra's domestic tour, playing Giovanni Bottesini's 2nd concerto. After graduating from St. Olaf, I taught for a year with El Sistema Minnesota, a community music education organization modeled after the Venezuelan system. While teaching with El Sistema, I also began freelancing with orchestras around Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa. In September 2015, I moved to Chicago to pursue my masters degree at DePaul University. I also play with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and am a substitute for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

I believe the true power of music comes through playing wit

My primary teaching philosophy revolves around the idea of creativity and cooperative problem solving. I believe that all musicians should be actively training their ears as well as their abilities on their instrument. I focus on all elements of basic musicianship while incorporating improvisation and composition in an inspiring way.

I grew up playing jazz, soul, R&B, folk, reggae, ska, funk, and classical music. I feel very comfortable working within all of these genres in both performance and educational atmospheres.

Regardless of age, learning a new instrument or art form can be daunting, so I like to include some sort of entertaining activities to keep tension low and inspiration high.

As a recent graduate of Berklee College of Music in Boston, I have been playing guitar since the 4th grade. I remember taking lessons from several teachers in the beggining, however it wasn't until a certain teacher that things started to click, and all of a sudden I was inspired to become the guitar player I am today. I strive to inspire my students and make music fun, challenging and exciting for my students.

Whether you are an absolute begginer with no experience holding a guitar, or an advanced student lookin to explore advanced harmonic and rhythmic concepts, I have what it takes to teach you. I have experience teaching young children teenagers and adults through various music schools.

I am also a working musician and perform with several bands in the genres of R&B/Gospel, Jazz, Singer Somgwriter and Solo Guitar. I maintain a bus
y schedule as a performer, bandleader, and sideman however I have found teaching to be one of the most rewarding things I do musically. When a student succeeds and I see the light bulb go off in his/her head I become excited. Music is truly one of he greatest gifts in mankind and I have great joy in passing along knowledge to my students.

Mary is passionate about playing piano and teaching others her craft. She takes an individualized approach, tailoring each lesson to meet the needs of her student, carefully adapting her teaching style to what type of learner you are, which she will determine at the onset. What I love about working with Mary, is that she lets you choose what songs you want to learn and supplements those with materials at your level. She follows along at your pace, asking how many songs you want to work on at any given time. She is thorough, offering helpful critique and praise when due. She writes detailed instructions in a notebook, which she gives you to take home to refer to when practicing on your own. Mary composes her own music, and when you hear it you will be astonished by its beauty, her talent and skill. To be able to take lessons from such a gifted musician is an exciting thing! She is friendly and makes lessons fun. She takes personal interest in you from the start. Her rates are very reasonable,
