I am so excited to take lessons with Jordana! She is incredibly helpful and patient and has really helped me with my setup and playing. She's taught me so much about styles other than classical (she taught me how to chop and how to read a chart), classical technique, and performing. I highly recommend lessons with Jordana!

Songwriting can seem so mysterious. Where do ideas come from? How do you create chord progressions that work? Do you just have to be born a songwriter? Songwriting is like any other skill. It can be taught, practiced and honed. I love working with students to help them discover their own musical creativity.

About Evan

I am a singer, songwriter and guitarist. I love folk music, bluegrass, country, blues and all forms of Americana! One of the best things about folk music is it's meant to be shared with others. I've been mastering these forms of music for the past ten years. *** Lesson Details *** Developing gr

Excellant Teacher

Evan is patient, understanding and most of all an excellent teacher. He rolls with you at your pace. I feel I have learned more from him with my banjo in a very short period of time than I have learned in a couple of years of guitar. He is fantastic!!

Evan is great

He is very good teacher. I would recommended him to anyone.

Very impressed

I have had two lessons with Evan so far, and I always schedule my next lesson at the end of each session, as I'm so excited to go back and learn more. Not only are the lessons very informative, and helpful, but he sends me home with video of what we had gone over in the day. This is extremely helpful! When I practice, I have something to revert back to, to help me remember exactly everything he taught me.

I've had two lessons so far and Alison seems like a really wonderful teacher. She is very attentive to detail and good at giving advice and feedback. I haven't taken music lessons in a long time, and I've never played a string instrument before, but already with Alison's expert instruction, I feel like I'm really learning. I highly recommend her!

"I started with Richard in July, and by October I'm not only playing and singing songs on the banjo, I'm also learning musical theory that I never really fathomed learning. It's opened up a side of my brain that's been rather dormant for the last forty seven years."

"My son has been taking private classes with Miss Cindy for a few months, first voice and then piano lessons. He has taken piano lessons before at another school, but he wasn't enthusiastic about it, he didn't look forward to taking class and it was a struggle to get him to practice.

The biggest compliment I can give Miss Cindy is that when I ask my son how his class went, he says "fun"!! He practices everyday . . . without prompting. He's always eager to play for anyone who'll listen. He really enjoys the piano and he especially enjoys taking lessons with Miss Cindy. If you're trying to find you're child's passion, Cindy's Music School is a good place to start."

"In search of helping our 10 year old son build some self-confidence we sought out clarinet lessons this summer. He started playing in school last year, and it was something our reluctant son liked "enough" to want to build up some competency. Joshua has been amazing! He finds just the right amount of challenge to encourage my son to practice, but not get discouraged. My son looks forward to his lesson each week and told me that he isn't even sure he wants to switch to saxophone next year because he is having so much fun playing the clarinet. Joshua is amazing with children, and has spent time getting to know our kiddo and find out what will work best for him. Patient, calm, and inspiring--very talented instructor."

"After taking piano lessons from a family friend for several years growing up, I decided to pick piano back up in college. Thanks to John, I was able to do much more than that. We worked together for about a year and a half, and in this time John not only helped me become a better pianist than I had ever hoped, but he opened my eyes to expressive possibilities in music that I had never been exposed to. I used to think of a piece of music as nothing more than a series of notes to be played in order, at the right tempo, the right volume, etc. John helped me see that even the most simple melody contains an infinite number of possibilities. He taught me skills that allowed me to begin to harness these possibilities and to find my own sound and style. After working with John, I feel like I hear all music in a new way, and my love for music has never been greater. To sum up, John is an expert pianist and an even better teacher. I cannot recommend him highly enough to anybody, at any level, who has a desire to learn more about music and about the piano."

"John has been teaching my son clarinet from the very beginning and it's been great hearing the progress. He is patient and encouraging in his feedback, and is willing to work with whatever level of commitment (i.e. practice) he is given. I think it's largely due to Jon that my son has stayed interested in playing."

Beginner Piano Exercises: How to Tame the Flyaway Fourth Finger

When you're learning how to play the piano, finger exercises are especially important--especially if you're having trouble controlling that pesky fourth finger! Learn the steps to take in this guest post by Ann Arbor, MI teacher Amy C...   When I first began to learn piano, my fourth finger seemed bent on being anywhere but on the keys. Whenever I was not using it, the fourth finger--and by extension, the fifth finger--simply floated in midair, hovering above the ivories. This meant t …
