Students can expect that they will improve with me if diligent and focuses practice is put in every day. I will recommend books and tools to help them improve, as well as fundamental warm-ups and daily practice exercises designed to help them progress as quickly as they can (provided they are done correctly!).

The trombone has a wonderful sound, but there is a bit of a learning curve due to the slide (even though making that glissando/slide sound is a ton of fun). I am dedicated to work with my students to help them navigate the challenges that come from not having valves like the other brass instruments so they can really make the trombone sing!

About Daniel

Whether you are just looking to learn a new skill or make a living as a professional, I am passionate about helping my students to find their path in life as music makers. To me, this means bringing the music off the page, and finding/playing what has not been written in ink. Music is about more tha

Students will be taught how to play using both 2 mallets and then move to 4. We will go over different exercises, scales, and solos to help them progress.

About Alex

Alex was born May 31, 1987. Since both of his parents were band directors, he grew up in a very musically inclined family. When he was 15 years old, during his freshman year of high school, he started studying percussion. A year later he began studying under Chad Kohler and continued to do so until

I graduated with a degree in music performance in 2019, and have over 13 years of playing experience and 5 years of teaching experience (ranging from student as young as 5 years old). Outside of music, I am a medical student (M.D.). I enjoy using music as an outlet and teach trumpet lessons because it is my passion!

As a teacher, my goal is to help not only facilitate musical interpretation and technical skills on the trumpet but also help foster a student's life-long love for music. I believe that students should not only progress technically but foster a sense of who they are as performers, regardless of their level.

As a performer, I have played in symphony orchestras, in the pit for musicals such as Pippin, Into the Woods, and The Music Man, and private gigs. I've received training in performance anxiety and overcoming fear of public performance and would be happy to discuss techniques.

About Moriah

I offer individualized lessons and am passionate about helping students' achieve their goals!. I try to provide affordable lesson prices so that financial concerns never inhibit students' ability to progress and reach their potential! Please feel free to reach out with any questions.

I will start off class by doing vocal warm-ups with students and asking them about their practice that week and what they found easy or difficult about the vocal piece we are working on. I will tweak warm-ups to work on the areas they found difficult. We will then check in with our posture and do physical warm-ups to find any areas where we may be holding tension that could impact our vocal performance. We will talk about the proper way to breathe (lower belly) and to avoid constricting or straining our airways in sound productions. Then, I'll have them sing the song through once for me and I will give them notes on each section, demonstrating what they should do to improve that area. Comments can include things about rhythm, pitch, intonation, diction, breath support, delivery, vocal health, placement, and volume control.

I will also work with the students to help them self-identify problems going forward by asking them what they did well and what they can improve upon so that ...

Having studied opera in college, I understand and will teach the correct breathing, posture, and technical skills required. I believe the techniques and skill set required for opera singing are useful for many other styles of singing as well. A classically trained student will find that other genres come more easily as a result of their training.

"I decided to write an updated review after roughly a year of lessons. I feel fortunate to have connected with Lena as she has exactly the balance of skills I needed for my musical goals. Having an instructor that has performed live, that understands the realities of being on a stage, and can still give you all of the detailed work needed to improve vocals, songwriting, instrumentation... I really don't think you can go wrong here. You don't have to play live to get the benefit, but finding someone who can guide you through both music and performance was not an easy search. 5/5 rating from me."

His sensitivities from everything diction to vocal mechanics and body/mind awareness in singing helped me think of my voice in a whole new way. Best Online Activities for Coronavirus Quarantine | TakeLessons

With the spread of the coronavirus, life as we know it is moving indoors. In many major cities, schools are closed, restaurants and bars are shut down, events are postponed, and employees are working from home. The goal is social distancing in order to flatten the curve and reduce the impact of Covid-19 in our communities. We are all sacrificing our individual freedoms to help the common good. As we self-quarantine and spend more time inside, there is a growing need to occupy our time in …

Self-Conscious About Your Singing? Try These 3 Tips

Wondering how to get over stage fright when singing? Or even just feeling comfortable with singing in front of a small group? Check out these helpful tips from North Hollywood, CA teacher Jackie B...   As a lifelong musical theater performer — and owner of a big, brassy voice — I often hear people complain to me that “they wish they had talent” or lament the fact that they are “tone deaf” and therefore unable to enjoy singing. While I can appreciate the fact that people are bo …

Female Songwriters to Inspire You

Ooh, girl.  Full honesty here, I read my topic for this week and I whisper-screamed “YES!!” in my little home office. As a female singer/songwriter, I have found inspiration from many a woman, from many a genre, known, and unknown. So, sit back, relax, and enjoy my favorite article to date.  Let’s start with the queen herself, Dolly Parton.  She has written more than her fair share of hits, including ones you probably had no idea that were her creations. (Hannah Montana theme song? …
