I teach students of all experience levels and ages! I structure my lessons so students learn what they want to learn, while also building a strong foundation of classical piano skills. I typically use Bastien books, and also incorporate sheet music. My lessons are challenging, and fun!

Tammy has been very encouraging, patient, and accommodating with my granddaughters, including one with special needs who has difficulty understanding and following directions. There are teachers who live closer to us, but it is worth the longer drive for one who works so well with the girls. Tammy is always smiling, and the girls love piano. It’s been a great experience for us.

Tammy is a wonderful piano teacher! She is kind, patient, motivating, and explains concepts clearly. Obviously is very knowledgable of the piano. I’m 20 years old and took lessons for four years as a kid but never took them seriously. Always regretted quitting and found Tammy to get back into it. I’ve been taking lessons from her for two months and I couldn’t recommend her enough! She obviously has a passion for music and teaching it to others.
Samson
Awesome teacher! I was experiencing difficulties understanding the rhythm of a difficult piece titled Un Sospiro by Liszt. I took a lesson with Tammy and she explained the concept of the piece very well; making it easier for me to learn the piece. She is really a great teacher.

My whole method book starts and ends with listening and ear training and rhythmic work and playing. In the end, if you really are serious, you need to know ALL the nuts and bolts.
Music theory is essential if you want to take it to a high level. But it's not hard.

Why? You see, when you were a kid, you talked before you could read and write, correct? So we learn the fun stuff, listening and playing first and then you easily grasp the theory of music. And we make sure you get it all so you are a well-rounded pro.

Oh, and you will have had so much fun that you will actually still be studying music instead of having quit because you were bombarded with paper at too young an age!

The English language has 26 letters. Music has 5 lines and 4 spaces. Piece of cake!

My first lesson with Randy went very well! He gave some clear objectives and areas of focus where I can improve my speaking voice, and where we'll focus on future lessons, based on our first phone call alone. At the same time though he made it clear that at any time I want to work on something else, we can change gears and do that instead. I appreciate him setting clear goals and objectives, while being fluid and he gained my confidence as an instructor right away! We worked on a couple of concepts in the first lesson and he used a few different techniques and tools to make these easy to understand. I look forward to my future lessons with Randy and improving my speaking voice!

With a Master Of Music degree in Voice Performance from Boston University, I am passionate about helping each student discover his/her own unique voice. A student of the esteemed operatic soprano, Phyllis Curtin, I teach a pedagogy founded on the principles of the classical bel canto technique. With strong emphasis on maintenance of a coordinated singing posture and fully supported diaphragmatic breathing, my teaching allow most students to see improvements in ease and beauty of tone within two lessons.

I do believe that time spent outside of one's lessons applying the technique in private practice is THE MOST important building block to mastery of one's voice. I encourage all students to record their lessons for use in their private practice. Objectively listening to oneself and developing a discriminating ear for your sound is essential to successful development.

In addition to teaching, I am a busy performer in the San Francisco Bay Area, providing the singing voice for ...

About Erik

Let's make some joyful noise together! Singing beautifully is one of the most freeing and gratifying experiences one can have. I grew up singing in church, my local high school music program and community choral organizations. So singing is a fundamental part of my personal history and experience.

Erik was a warm, engaging, intelligent, and FUN vocal instructor. My husband and I took lessons for our wedding performance and continued afterward as well because it was so fun! Erik has a bounty of knowledge, an incredibly precise ear, helpful tips, and a lot of patience! Highly recommend him for any style of vocal signing as he has a broad range of technical talent and is very precise in his feedback. Erik you rock!!

Erik is a fantastic voice teacher and is a wonderful person. I cannot recommend him highly enough. I have recently started voice lessons with Erik after a 10+ year break from singing opera and choral music, and I have learned so much from him already in the two moths we have been working together - posture, breathing techniques, analysis of the text and score, ....
Our lessons are well organized, very helpful, and a lot of fun. I look forward to my weekly lessons with Erik and hope to study with him for a long time.
Max
I had the good fortune of participating in two master classes led by Erik Chalfant. Erik is very knowledgable about the mechanics of vocal production, but what’s more is that he inspires as he teaches. He is engaging and energetic, and also very effective. He connects with his students, regardless of their level of expertise or experience. I have recommended Erik to several fellow musicians, and would again without hesitation.

"Bil is knowledgeable and encouraging. I’m a beginner piano student, with aspirations of playing jazz. And while I’m not yet playing any jazz standards, Bil has taught me the beauty of extended chords, how to quickly build certain voicing of 7th and 9th chords, and encouraging me not only to play with them, but also to start modifying other songs I’ve already learned with said chords. His love for music theory and composition are evident, and he is eager to share his knowledge with his students at their own pace and level of understanding. For anyone considering Bil, I would encourage you to take a lesson with him and experience his easygoing yet focused teaching style."
