About Garrett

As a member of the award-winning, touring wind quintet, WindSync, I have the unique experience of traveling across the country (and world) to not only perform dynamic, fully memorized concerts, but also teach masterclasses, workshops, and perform educational outreach programs for students from the elementary to university level. Aside from my work with WindSync, I have successfully auditioned for and performed in orchestras across the country, and have a long and extensive history of teaching musicians both privately and in larger group settings.

I highly recommend Sarah. She has excellent skills for any teacher - she's encouraging, knowledgeable and patient. I'm an adult who played piano years ago and always wanted to play the flute but I was frustrated, squeaky, out of breath, and out of tune. With a few weeks of lessons I'm further along than I was trying to teach myself over years.
I had years of serious music study with critical music teachers who made me embarrassed about mistakes and dread my lessons. With Sarah, the learning is fun and I now look forward to every lesson.

About Jake

Hello!

I am currently a freelance violist and strings teacher in the greater Hartford area. I completed a masters degree in viola performance at The Hartt School in December of 2018.

In the past year, I have collaborated with Teaching Artists International in traveling to Peru and Guatemala to observe and teach students immersed in the El Sistema philosophy. El Sistema began in Venezuela as a method of orchestral instruction that carries with it an essential component of social justice and inclusivity.

Teaching is a great opportunity to get to know a young artist. My primary goal as a teacher has always been to help my students develop technical and musical abilities through regular practice and problem solving approaches, while always encouraging a unique musical voice. In our lessons together, we will explore your personal mus

ical interests, and I will also introduce you to an applied technical approach to the viola and violin, which I will cater to your individual technical and musical needs!

I would be more than happy to answer any specific questions you have about my pedagogical approach, and I look forward to hearing from you!

All the best,
-Jake Pietroniro-

Jake has a keen sense of how to pace lessons, and has a sharp eye & ear for technique. If I had just taught myself through YouTube I might be okay at violin, but the quality would be nowhere near where it is today without Jake's help. These lessons have been a good investment and I look forward to improving even more.

My first session with Dan was great! He asked a lot of questions to determine my level of experience/goals; then we dived right into the lesson. He’s also provided homework assigments that I’ve been able to work on straight away.

Dan is a really insightful instructor. He really knows Ableton in-and-out with his eyes closed. He also has a good ear and is able to help you get the sound that you want. He gives really good feedback on projects that you might be working on. He is really well-versed in all aspects of music production - not only in sound design and mixing but also in songwriting and also can talk about difficult topics like inspiration and creativity in a unique way. If you're serious about music production, I would certainly recommend taking lessons with Dan.

"Teaching 12 year old to play guitar. Has good rapport with kids and son is enjoying his lessons, he looks forward to going. We go to his home and he has

"Ryan was the first instructor who made piano make sense. I'd tried three times before to get into piano and it just wasn't happening. Ryan took concepts a
nd techniques that I'd notoriosly and historically struggled with and broke them down for me. Each lesson was completely personalized and if I had a particularly challenging week of practice, we would dive into the exercises and ideas even more deeply -- rather than just say "ok" and move on.

Ryan is a great instructor, explainer, and communicator -- very knowledgable, well-humored, and genuinely interested in his students' success. It was great to see someone who has taught for so long be so enthusiastic about my progress. His attitude and experience are what made the difference for me this time around.

If you're looking to get started on piano or develop your playing in any regard, Ryan can draw you a map to get there and guide you every step of the way. Go for it, you'll have a great time and honestly surprise yourself with how much you can learn and improve."
