About David

*Now also offering online lessons*

Guitar

David picked up the guitar when he moved from his hometown of Phoenix, Arizona in 2001 at the age of 19 and hasn't looked back since. 7 years and countless hours of practicing, performing and teaching later, David plays at multiple venues in the Kansas City area while teaching from his studio at Guitar Source in Overland Park,, Southland Conservatory in Raymore, and in home tutoring service Mobile Music Teachers. David also teaches and records from his home studio in Raytown, MO where he offers lessons for home schoolers during the daytime hours.

As a guitarist David is motivated primarily by his passion for music. Growing up he was influenced by classical, jazz, and film scores. Since picking up the guitar he has been inspired by guitarists from such diverse backgrounds as Eric Johnson,

Robben Ford, Pat Martino, Pat Metheny, Martin Taylor, and James Taylor, to name a few. Today David plays and teaches a variety of different styles, ranging from rock and blues to classical and jazz.

Piano

David started to play the piano after years of playing the guitar. Although a second instrument, it in many ways it was the first as everything David has aspired to on the guitar is pianistic, and he draws much of his inspiration on the instrument from piano players. Correspondingly, it wasn't long before David picked up the piano itself, studying privately first with Tatev Amir and later with Karen, Kushner, Professor of Piano Studies at UMKC. David applies many of the same principles to the piano that he does the guitar including stressing a comprehensive knowledge of music theory, self transcription, ear training and classical technique as well as the more traditional facets of piano pedagogy such as sight reading and rhythm work. Students learn music theory as applied to the keyboard, sight-reading, improvisation and the application of classical technique to modern styles.

As a pianist David is motivated primarily by his passion for music. Growing up he was influenced by classical, jazz, and film scores. Since picking up the piano he has been inspired by pianists from such diverse backgrounds as Art Tatum, Nicolai Lugansky, Oscar Peterson, and Bill Evans among others. Today David plays and teaches a variety of different styles, ranging from rock and blues to classical and jazz.

*** Lesson Details ***
I have extensive experience with all ages and skill levels. I use a curriculum specifically geared towards the guitar, as opposed to more traditional (and inferior) methods that emphasize note reading and piano pedagogy, my method will teach you music theory as it relates to the neck of the guitar and the music that the student are interested in. I am a fairly laid back teacher; we will go at your pace, but I do expect you to work hard.

With piano I use classical literature to develop technique but emphasize the development of a comprehensive understanding of music theory as applied to the keyboard. This includes but is not limited to studies in pop, rock, jazz and other style of contemporary piano.

*** Studio Equipment ***
#1) Dedicated music room seating for parents

#2) Practice/rehearsal room seating for parents

#3) Amplification provided and music stand.

#4) Keyboard/Piano for student use

#5) Broadband network, dual camera, file sharing and the latest technology utilized for online lessons.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide a music stand, my instrument, curriculum materials, music paper materials and amplification (if needed). I expect the student to have their own instrument and potentially amplification. I provide a piano for instruction but I expect my students to have a piano or keyboard for practice at home.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in classical and jazz guitar, however I am fluent in most styles, including rock, blues, fingerstyle, and miscellaneous. I teach from Jay EuDaly's "Vertical Truth: Chordal Mechanisms for the Guitar" but I also supplement this with a variety of other curriculum.

In piano I specialize in classical piano as well as jazz and pop.

*** Lesson Details ***
These details change depending on, whether you would like musical training or academic tutoring.
Musical:

Music is fun and the lessons should be as well. When it comes to practice I recommend that students do spend time (1/2-1hour daily) outside of the lessons practicing to ensure that they see results. If you choose to practice only while in the lesson you will get better but it will be at a slower pace.

- Start with quick warm ups (these work to increase students fluidity with their instrument)
- Work technique
- Assign repertoire depending on skill level.
- Work on assigned repertoire
- Work on technical aspect of the pieces.
Your student will learn much more about their capabilities and their instrument as they will learn many aspects of Music Theory.

I teach beginning- advanced piano lessons touching on posture, hand position, rhythm training, sight-reading, expression, and pop/jazz chord charts. If you want to learn how to play songs by ear that you hear on the radio, I can train you how to do that too! Once I feel that you have surpassed my ability to help you grow, I will be happy to pass you on to a more experienced teacher and attend all of your future recitals.

I teach voice beginner-professional, which includes classical repertoire and technique as well as Musical Theatre, Pop, Rock, Standards, Country, RnB,...you name it. The best part is that you will learn to sing in a manner that will not damage your instrument and in fact will work to fortify your instrument.

Academic:
- Start with introduction to the standard.
- Work on problems with material.
- Present new methods to reach a solution.
- Work on all assigned work.
- Work on future work to give the student an academic advantage.

I am a hard working tutor that will bring the joy of the subject to our sessions of tutoring. I am strict at times, however, some of my students have referred to me as mellow. I will strive to bring your student up to speed and surpass even their own expectations. I love my students, and I want to see them succeed.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Piano, Recording equipment etc.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Casio Keyboard Piano, sheet music, and much more equipment as needed.

*** Specialties ***

I really appreciate Luis for the practice he's given me. We worked on lyric analyzation and flow. We focused on speeding up the meter to work harder in performing faster. I have become better with expressing my vocals in a volume where I can sing a long with the music bed. I highly recommend Luis for anyone who is working on improving their vocal training.

About Peter

Lauded by Opera News as having “showed vocal confidence [...] his luminous head voice blooming with expansive and penetrating phrases“, and by Opera Today as bringing "the performance to an awestruck standstill with his exquisitely sung (aria)... He cuts a fine figure throughout the performance, with an intense stage presence” Peter has performed such roles as Rodolfo (La Bohème), Alfredo (La Traviata), Il Duca di Mantova (Rigoletto), Macduff (Macbeth), Nemorino (l'elisir d'amore), Turiddu (Cavalleria Rusticana), and Justice Scalia in Derrick Wang’s Scalia/Ginsburg, performed at the Supreme Court and featured on NPR’s All Things Considered. Peter has performed in such venues as Santa Fe Opera, Sarasota Opera, Opera Idaho, Anchorage Opera, Maryland Opera, Lancaster Symphony, Richmond Symphony, Helena Symphony, and Carnegie Hall.

As a t

eacher, students have said about Mr. Peter:
“Peter helped me get to my high notes with a bright sound that felt relaxed and easy” -Brett Andrews, Tenor/Dancer
“Peter’s experience as a performer helped me not only achieve a healthy full sound, but a strong connection to the role through body work and character analysis.” -Abigail Lawsonn, Operatic Soprano
My technique is based on a relaxed but engaged posture, the management of air instead of "pushing" or "shoving" air, a bright but warm sound, and taking your space as a performer, a singer, and a human being.

My lessons will not be authoritative, I am as much a student of music as anyone who has ever played an instrument. I will simply be able to provide you the tools, concepts, and perspectives on music that will help unleash your own creativity. I deal with any and all styles of music and skill levels on the guitar. I want these lessons to be about music, and about YOU! I look forward to hearing from you! :) Keep practicing!

Roberto
"I have been taking lessons from Ahmad for nearly a year now.

Ahmad is a fantastic guitar player, but more importantly to me he is an experienced and
effective teacher.

From the first lesson he has been clear, concise, encouraging, motivating and serious about my progress on the guitar.

Ahmad displays a strong passion for guitar playing and teaching and his in depth understanding of the subject comes across in his lessons.

His lessons are very well thought out. Over weeks of teaching, you can look back and see that each lesson has clearly built on the last, and nearly every week I have been amazed at the things that I can play and how easy it has been by taking incremental steps to improve.

The one on one time with Ahmad has been a great help. He pays very close attention to every little thing I do to make sure I am doing things the right way all with the intention of making sure that I avoid any roadblocks or technical issues that can lead to plateaus.

Ahmad's clear gift for teaching and his amazing talent on guitar are a killer combination for a guitar teacher. I would highly recommend anyone who is serious about improving on guitar both technically and harmonically look to Ahmad.

You definitely get the impression that he can teach just about anything."

"In the summer of 2017, I had the pleasure of attending a handful of youth musicals at the Georgetown Palace Theatre (Austin, TX area). As a theatre major,
after having viewed these shows it was evident to me that the team which helped put them together really knew their stuff, and that in particular music director Mr. Anthony had gone above and beyond to make these shows something special. I spoke with him a little about the rehearsal process and was amazed to learn not only that he had taught the kids all of the music in only two weeks, but that he was only a seasonal staff member there for the summer programs and was essentially fresh out of college. Mr. Anthony’s professional presence and expertise would lead one to believe he was a tenured staff member at the Palace. Additionally, my childcare background allows me to appreciate how difficult it can be to get 20+ kids still, quiet and paying attention all at once. Mr. Anthony did that, AND taught them an entire musical soundtrack in a period of only two weeks, and when show time came the kids knew what lyrics and notes to sing for their solos! I still remember, after having rehearsed the same songs in music class for months in grade school, having to sing under my breath in the middle of a song and follow along with the rest of the choir because I STILL didn’t have the words memorized! Maybe that’s just me? Either way, whatever Mr. Anthony is doing, it works. Oh, and the kids were crazy about him!

The Palace Theatre found a real gem in Mr. Anthony this summer and I hope his excellent work continues to inspire! He is so passionate about his work and cares about his clients’ success. He is great with kids, they will have tons of fun learning from him. If you or your child are looking for a top-notch teacher, look no further!"

"Rodolfo is the best vocal coach I’ve ever had, hands down. I was invited to perform on Disney’s Freeform Network with only 2 months to prepare and needed
someone take me to that next level. I was very fortunate to find Rodolfo when I did. He was able to meet me exactly where I was at and set the bar for what I could be if I worked diligently. Rodolfo takes the time to get to know his students and finds out what motivates them. He is flexible with his schedule and goes above and beyond so that your needs are met. He has a vast knowledge of singing techniques and can work with all skill levels."
