Hello and welcome to takelessons.com! My name is Jessica and I am classically trained violinist with over 20 years of playing experience. I was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland and recently relocated to Saint Louis County with my family. Music has always been passion of mine since a very young age, so it was inevitable that it would end up being my career. Naturally, a love for teaching the wonders of music followed suit!
I always try to form a great rapport with my students and parents from the very first lesson. For younger students, I encourage my parents to take an active part in both lessons and daily practice, as is encouraged by Shinichi Suzuki.
I've been teaching violin and viola professionally for over 12 years now. My experience includes teaching private lessons at students homes as wel
l as at various music schools, summer camps and festivals. A few advanced students have even attended and performed in some of these aforementioned festivals! I am always encouraging my students to go above and beyond.
A bit of background about me: I started my music studies at the age of 7. Lessons and orchestra were literally the highlight of my childhood. I ended up attending the Baltimore School for the Arts for high school, and went on to receive my Bachelor of Music Performance degree from Shenandoah University and complete further studies in England, Northern Ireland and Maryland (UMBC graduate certificate). I am also a registered Suzuki Violin/Viola teacher and have attended many teachers workshops in order to gain the knowledge and experience necessary to work with any and all types of students, including those with learning disabilities, such as ADD and FAS.
*** Lesson Details *** While I am a registered Suzuki violin teacher, I do not teach solely out of a certain method or "by the book"; I choose and mold every lesson depending on specific, strengths, weaknesses, etc. If you are a more advanced, serious player, more intensive lessons and repertoire will follow suit.
I am comfortable teaching all ages and levels up to advanced. Use of games make learning the violin fun and accessible for young children. Older and more advanced students receive a more technical, intensive and advanced approach. Coaching and weekly help on school assigned materials (orchestra/string class music and homework) Classical, Jazz, Gypsy and Fiddle styles are all introduced and studied to give students a rounded technique. Music theory (reading and understanding music) is incorporated in lessons. Repertoire is diverse and exciting. Various approaches for the visual or aural learner. Guaranteed to keep you or your child engaged and interested!
*** Equipment and Studio Lesson Details ***
-If you are coming to my home for lessons, please be sure to bring your instrument and any books you may already have.
**Please note, there are three cats in the house. They are usually isolated to a different part of the house during lessons to ensure there are no unnecessary distractions and to help minimize potential allergies (studio is also sprayed with allergy reducer spray and vacuumed regularly). All are UTD on shots. Please call and ask to schedule a "trial" lesson to see if the animals interfere with allergies.
New students: You may park on the cul-de-sac next to the house and walk down. I have a trial 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 size violin to use for the first lesson if your child is a beginner. After the first lesson I will send an email explaining what materials and equipment I recommend you buy to help you sound your best.
Places to rent or buy instruments will be recommended upon request.
*** Cancellation/Reschedule Requests *** 1) At least 24 hours notice is required if you need to cancel your, or your child's, lesson. You will be given the option to take a credit that will automatically roll over to cover future unpaid lessons on your calendar, or the option to reschedule for a different day within a week of the canceled lesson.
2) If you find that you need to cancel with less than 24 hours notice you will be given the option to make up your lesson within 7 calendar days of your originally scheduled lesson time. If you cannot do a makeup lesson, this will result in the lesson being marked as "missed" and will still be charged as if you attended the lesson.
3) If you do not show up to your lesson scheduled at my home studio and no notice was given, the lesson will be marked as "missed" and will still be charged as if you attended the lesson.
4) If I need to reschedule or cancel a lesson for whatever reason, you will be given an option for a makeup lesson or given a credit that will automatically roll over to cover future unpaid lessons.
5) I require two weeks notice to discontinue lessons if you would like to receive a refund or be exempt from paying future tuition.
6) All lessons are billed ahead of schedule and must be paid in advance in order to keep your lesson slot.

Gabriel is an amazing coach. He takes the time to explain in detail how to discover a character in an easy to understand way. As a beginner he has really helped me learn to break down a script and understand what is going on. He teaches you how to set yourself apart from the crowd in an audition. I highly recommend Gabriel to anyone seeking to better their craft or begin acting!

Gabriel developed a proprietary method of accent reduction that makes it easy to focus on the areas that need change or improvement. The method, combined with Gabriel’s passion for teaching, make the classes dynamic and productive. He quickly identified my problematic areas, and patiently worked with me on changes I needed to make to the way I pronounce certain sounds.
He also provides ample resources and direction for exercises in between the lessons to make the progress faster. I highly recommend Gabriel for accent reduction classes.

I have been teaching privately since 2010, when I accepted a position as a graduate assistant at Bowling Green State University. My responsibilities included teaching private lessons to undergraduate percussion majors and coaching percussion ensembles. I began teaching students from middle school through high school age around the same time, and my students have since included a number of adults.
I enjoy working with students of all ages and levels of experience, as they all bring something unique to their lessons and challenge me to adapt to their varied styles of learning.

I've been working with Trevor for just over a year. His teaching goes beyond just dry technique and theory to answer the question "why am I doing this?" When you work with Trevor, there is purpose behind everything you do. He starts with your big picture goals and breaks them down into actionable steps that you can take feeling like it's going somewhere. This makes for way more efficient and exciting practice sessions. If you don't know exactly where you want to go with your playing, Trevor will help you find that as well.

Trevor is an amazing teacher! He works with you to make a plan to learn whatever interests you. I can bring in any kind of music or style of playing and he will help me learn all of the elements. He is happy to go as far into theory as you want or stay more high level. Also has been very helpful in transitioning from learning tunes to writing and recording my own songs. Highly recommend.

My 6 year old granddaughter has been taking piano lessons from Alexander K. since for about 4 months now. I chose Alexander as a result of the number of years he has been teaching piano lessons to young kids. He is doing a great job teaching her. He is very patience with her inquisitive mind and leads her at her pace. She likes his teaching skills and has learned a lot in this short time. I am very impressed with the progress she has made. I plan to continue the lessons for as long as possible. Thanks Alexander for the great job you are doing with my granddaughter!

I am a professional jazz/contemporary pianist from Illinois. I graduated Eastern Illinois University with a degree in jazz piano performance. I am newly married and live on the east side of Bloomington, Indiana.
I have about nine years of experience teaching private music lessons in both drums and piano. Students can expect an energetic and helpful lesson experience. They can also expect significant improvement and a newfound excitement about their instrument every week. I care deeply about my music and any students that come to me looking for improvement.
Currently, I am working to earn a masters in Jazz Studies from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. I have daily classes and rehearsals, but I have enough free time in between classes for to arrange morning and afternoon lessons.
I am passionate about all styles of music but I
am particularly excited to teach jazz and contemporary music. I find it extremely easy and enjoyable to relate to people of all ages and I believe it is extremely important and beneficial to teach each individual differently according to his or her particular personality and learning style.

A short bio:
Brian was born June 1992 in Kitchener, a city just west of Toronto, Ontario in Canada. His musical life began at nine years when he first started lessons with his grandmother. After showing a growing fascination with jazz and blues music he began studies with Andriy Tykohnov. At this time Brian had begun performing in several rock and blues groups such as The Red Ribbon Player’s and Alex Tintinalli Band and simultaneously started his own jazz piano trio. At 14 years he decided to make classical studies a major part of his musical diet and started working under the instruction of Olena Klyucharova, leading to the completion of a certificate from the Royal Conservatory of Music. He also studied the pipe organ with Marlin Nagtegaal. Shortly after this he also com
pleted a double major in Music and Mathematics at the University of Waterloo. While a student, he was very active in the Southern Ontario jazz scene, working with jazz groups such as the Derek Hines quintet, the Macondo quartet, his own Brian Voll Trio and various other local musicians. In 2014 life brought him to Athens, Greece, where he has been living ever since. In Athens, Brian has been performing with local groups No More Blues and Tea for X, and has arranged a jazz piano trio with Seraphim Bellos on drums and on Ilias Karkavelias bass. The trio performs predominately Brian’s compositions as well as arrangements of well know standards. Aside from performance, Brian is actively composing in various idioms and ensemble settings, teaching both classical and contemporary music, practising his second instrument, the Panflute, and studying music independently. He has a great fascination with the different ways music is approached and taught around the world and is constantly seeking opportunities to deepen his understanding and appreciation of music not so familiar to the western ear.

"There is no need to look any further, Amy is the best instructor TakeLessons has to offer. If you are doubtful, schedule a few lessons to find out for you

"I had an amazing first lesson, and looking forward to the next lessons."

I had no prior musical experience and Jared is excellent at catering to my background while still pushing me with weekly exercises a
nd songs to practice. He makes sure we cover subjects I'm interested in and works out many songs I request to learn as our lesson for the day. He has a wide range of knowledge and is super flexible with scheduling and communication. I'd recommend him to anyone wanting to learn more about their instrument and I look forward to taking more lessons from him!"
Amazing teacher, great experience! Every lesson is a revelation. I've gained a lot of confidence and knowledge since I started. Fran has
helped me develop my voice and my musical abilities very fast and always in a welcoming environment. I would definitely recommend her as a teacher."
