About carolyn
I earned my degrees in music and elementary education at Southeast Missouri University. I taught music in school for seven years. in 1989 I began teaching only privately . I am constantly aware that the best way for students to learn is a program individually planned for him or her. I love teaching all ages..Through the years I have expanded my lessons to provide performance opportunities for those students who are interested.

*** Lesson Details ***
Each lesson is geared toward that one individual. I am familiar with all the music book publications so I pick and choose from them for each individual student.
Every lesson will be a positive experience with little treats at the end of their lesson. For the students who would like to participate we have recitals at Steinway Piano Gallery every three month.
For the vocal students wh
o would like to participate we do singing performances at Retirement Homes . I have many costumes from which to choose for the characters. Some of our favorite shows are Wizard of Oz, Sound of Music , Disney and Phantom of The Opera.
I Am located in the Crestwood,Webster, Kirkwood, South County area.

*** Studio Equipment ***
In my music studio I have a console Baldwin and a baby grand. I have microphones and audio equipment for practice for voice students. I record all voice lessons that the student takes home to practice.

*** Specialties ***
I design my lessons to fit the student I am teaching. I give certificates for progress. Stickers are given to younger students.
I am open to a wide range of music for piano and voice. My main interest is guiding you to your goals be it simple or accomplished. Whether you want to be more comfortable singing in church or the church choir or wanting to be in musicals or be The American Idol I will guide you in obtaining your goals. The same applies to pianist whether you are leaning for your own pleasure or want to become a professional. I can help you accomplish your goal.

I've just started with Carolyn and have had only 3 lessons. She is very patient and encouraging. I have been singing in church choirs and community choirs most of my life. Just recently, I joined a non audition choral society that performs classical music and more demanding music. I was told that no one wanted to sit beside me because I was singing the wrong notes. If they thought that would deter me, they were wrong. I did drop out of the spring concert because I didn't have much time to improve. I have always wanted to take singing lessons but never created the opportunity. I am determined to learn to sing well and to join the choral society for the Christmas concert. I believe that Carolyn is the teacher who can help me achieve this goal.

Rediscovering piano

After almost 20 years away I'm really enjoying taking piano lessons again. Carolyn has been great about tailoring lessons for an adult beginner, and focusing on the type of music that I want to play. She has also been flexible working with my schedule, something I very much appreciate.

About Angela
Hi! My name is Angela, and I teach private piano, voice, and theory lessons. I love teaching, and have taught many ages (3 to 93) and ability levels (novice to advanced). I am a dependable, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic teacher. I offer lessons for 30, 45, or 60-minute weekly sessions in my home studio. I do not offer bi-weekly lessons or lessons in the student's home.

My home is a split-level, with my private living area above and my music studio below. There is a waiting area just outside the music studio, as well as a half-bath specifically designated for students and parents. The studio itself contains a piano and organ, my personal music library, and additional seating for parents. There is a full-length mirror for vocal students to watch their performance skills grow, and a gumball machine for when younger students have an exce
ptionally good lesson.

Making music is a skill which can bring lifelong joy to the musician as well as everyone around them. While I can easily ensure that my students enjoy music-making while they are taking lessons, my ultimate goal is that students continue to want to make music throughout their entire life, even after they stop taking lessons. I firmly believe that my job as a teacher is to train my students to be independent and self-sufficient musicians. Many teachers teach by rote, playing a passage to a student and then having the student play it back. Though this method is helpful in some situations, students who are taught in this manner often find that they are only able to play the songs taught to them in lessons, and that to learn a new song they must have a teacher by their side showing them how the song goes. In my lessons, however, students are taught to learn their own music through sight-reading, ear-training, music theory, and listening to and critiquing their own playing. Over time, this allows the student more and more freedom to make music without a teacher.

I am adding a review to override my original 4 star review to a 5 star review. My husband and I have been voice and piano students of Angela for well over a year now and she makes learning music interesting, fun, and challenging. It's intimidating to learn these skills (especially singing) as an adult but she is such a good teacher that we continue to look forward to our lessons and really enjoy learning these skills. She is encouraging and an excellent coach.

About David
Composer and guitarist David began formal music training at the age of 5 on the drums. He taught himself guitar as a teenager and began playing in local rock bands. Initially entering college as a Journalism major, his passion for music led him to Meramec College where he studied Music Theory with Robert C. Howard and classical guitar with Larry Bolles. From 1990 through 1993, he attended Webster University, and became only the second composer in the school's history to receive the BM/MM Scholarship. While at Webster, he studied composition with Dr. Kendall Stallings, Robert Chamberlin, and Kim Portnoy, Jazz History with Paul Demarinis, and 18th Century Counterpoint with Dr. Eloise Jarvis. During his education, he performed with many student ensembles and sat in on master classes by the great sitarist and surbaharist, Imrat Khan and jazz
guitarist Peter Leitch.

In 1993 he started St. Louis SoundWorks with Grammy nominated Adam Long and Mark McClanahan that specialized in mobile recording, and composing music for films and commercials.

As a musician, David has composed over 200 pieces for various instruments and combinations from small chamber ensembles to full orchestra. He was bandleader of two creative ensembles that focused on alternative notation compositions and improvised music, and later co-founded the avant-garde influenced rock band Diverted Course which released two CD's.

As a teacher, David has taught classical guitar and musicianship as an adjunct faculty member at Meramec College and Webster University. He has given seminars on the music of Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Ornette Coleman, and Anthony Braxton. He has been teaching privately for 23 years and many of his students have gone on to successful music careers and performed all over the world.

*** Lesson Details ***
I teach students of all ages in a fun and positive manner. I am flexible and will tailor the lessons to satisfy your own individual goals. Whether you are a beginner that wants to gain a foundation in technique, sight reading, and basic theory or an intermediate or more advanced player that wants to increase their knowledge and polish their skills, I will devise a plan to meet your needs. I encourage regular practice and like my students to keep a journal to monitor their progress.

I teach a variety of styles including classical guitar, blues, rock, jazz, and avant-garde.

Ultimately, I believe everyone needs a creative outlet, a way to express themselves, and has something unique to say, and I aim to help those students find their own voice.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Extra guitars and amps at both places. Mixing board at the studio. Only has a upright piano at his home address but has a keyboard at studio

*** Travel Equipment ***
Expect my students to provide the guitar. Amplification is optional.

*** Specialties ***
Classical, jazz, rock, blues, and avant-garde.

Dave has been able to take me on a great journey! We have covered many kinds of music, and I'm greatly appreciative of his patience and encouragement. He was able to tell after just a couple of lessons that my original plans for getting lessons was never going to be enough. He introduced several topics, and whetted my appetite for more! If only all teachers could open doors this way!!!

About Robert
Hello all! My name is Robert Nagle. I have been studying trumpet since age ten. I am currently attending University of Missouri-St. Louis as a music major and will be graduating soon. Throughout the years, I have studied with various applied instructors including the likes of Bob Sousa, and Lisa Blackmore. I have also previously taught trumpet at the “Go Music” store in the Delmar Loop starting out six years ago.
My performance experience spreads far among many various tastes in genres. It ranges between classical, jazz, pop, rock, hip hop, avant garde, and many more. I have studied classical since starting out, and jazz shortly after. I specialize in many sub-categories of jazz and popular music upon performing with many local groups around the area ranging from big band, New Orleans style, smooth jazz, latin, jazz fusion, folk, gospel,
and even some Rn’B. Some groups include St. Louis Big Band, Saint Boogie Brass Band, and also once with Webster U. Community Orchestra.
My method upon any student I have will ultimately be based on what I believe they can develop and/or build according to their foundation. Every foundation (gift) is going to be inherently different in each student. I want all of my students to of course have a firm grasp on fundamentals, but I want each of them more importantly, to thrive in only what is best for their journey as a musician.

Rachael is one of the best music teachers I’ve ever had. She is very encouraging and helps the students with whatever they’d like to learn. Her ability to listen to a song and figure out the chords, strum pattern, picking, and any other necessities truly astonished me. She is a lovely lady with a heart of gold, and someone I am glad to say I know. Rachael’s dedication to her students is something that I have never seen before and won’t be surprised if I do not see again. I am so proud that she has been apart of my life.

Hi, I’m Tim. I have a passion for drumming and teaching students of all ages and abilities. Above all things, I want my drum lessons to be fun while being informative and challenging. I believe everyone has some sense of rhythm that may just need a little guidance. My lessons put a focus on important “base-line” developmental concepts like reading notation and technique. Students will learn what they want to learn without missing out on the essentials. Guiding students to their “Ah-ha” moment is why I love to teach.

I've been playing drums for 18+ years and teaching/performing for 16+ years. I’ve been in several original bands and am currently the back-line drummer for the house band at Howl At The Moon in Ballpark Village in St. Louis, MO.

The Studio has 2 traditional kits set up [a student kit and an instructor kit] and a home-m
