I teach beginner cello primarily using the Suzuki books, but supplement with other materials when needed. My students work on scales and rhythm constantly to improve their tone and musicality as well as technique. I teach classical, religious, fiddle, and more. I also teach group ensembles, trios, quartets, and I work with students on their school orchestral and audition pieces.

An experienced and registered Suzuki teacher, my students learn to play violin starting from a solid foundation with emphasis on posture and producing a beautiful tone. In addition to playing the instrument, students can expect to learn reading music, basic theory, music history, and ear training. Learning violin will teach patience, concentration, the value of hard work, coordination, as well as enhancing memory, aural skills, and fine motor control. It was Dr. Suzuki's belief and mine that learning an instrument not only fosters these skills but also helps to foster the hearts and minds of those learning the craft.

About Sylvia

Sylvia Wehrs grew up in Auburn, Alabama studying the violin and piano. She is a graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Music where she graduated with both a Bachelor’s in Violin Performance and a Master’s degree in Violin Performance and Suzuki Pedagogy. Sylvia is very good at taking the time to explain the reasons behind the why of doing certain things. Being an adult with no musical background what so ever she has really taken the time to teach me some basic fundamentals that are helping me build the solid foundation that I so very much want and need. Beyond the time we spend with one-on-one instructions she challenges me with exercises to practice on between our meetings. I explained to Sylvia what I was looking for and she has centered the training and instructions around that to ensure that my goals are being met. She is a pleasure to work with and learn from.

Lessons will be based on what YOU want to learn! Together, we will articulate these goals and create a curriculum to achieve them. Lessons and practicing should be fun, and my experience of teaching many many different students taught me that structured and goal oriented practice is necessary in order to play the music you want to learn.
Your part is to bring up this effort and practice regularly.
My part is to help you learn HOW to practice and master the instrument with proper technique.

Ines has been a great teacher throughout college. Her emphasis on technique has greatly influenced how I approach guitar playing. Also, she taught me how important one's guitar tone is when playing a song the way the composer intended it to be played. It is very clear that I have improved as a guitar player while being her student and my guitar repertoire has expanded beyond just classical music.

Ines is an inspiring teacher for our nine-year old daughter. She is firm but flexible, patient, and a wonderful role model. Her breadth of performing and teaching experience allows her to choose repertory that is varied, fun, and challenging. Our daughter is always excited to have lessons with her.

"Mike has designed a curriculum that is engaging, challenging, and fun. His curriculum and teaching style are also highly adaptable, whether you want to learn "by the book" and learn strict technique and theory, or if you want to purely have fun and learn a few songs. Either way, his lessons are fun, and your drumming will definitely improve with him as your guide."

"Michael is a fantastic drum teacher. He is an extremely talented drummer and is skilled in all genres of music, from rock to jazz to latin. As a teacher he is very patient and adjusts to my needs / preferences. He is able to explain in detail both the mental and physical aspects of drumming, which I love, and always has tons of suggestions for improving my skills, from improv to rudiment exercises to jamming along to songs. I’ve learned so much taking classes from Mike!!"

"Paul is a highly skilled communicator of musical knowledge.

I've taken bass and guitar lessons from Paul for eight years. He has a deep understanding of music theory, and is a professional musician, playing multiple instruments. His brilliance as a teacher stems from his ability to tailor his instruction to a specific student's abilities and desires. If you want to learn how play the guitar lead to your favorite rock/pop song, Paul will teach you, while showing you how the scales and forms can, be and are used in other popular songs. I've seen him teach kids from 6 to 60. He organizes blues jams for students, giving them a chance to play with professional musicians. Paul is extremely professional, friendly, and knowledgable. Paul supplies carefully designed study materials. I don't want to over do it, but Paul is a gifted teacher of musical knowledge."

"Natasha is a great piano teacher!

I've been going for a few weeks now and I feel like I have already picked up a ton that I could not have learned on my own. She pays a lot of attention to my form to make sure I am not picking up any bad habits, which is exactly what I was looking for in an instructor.

Lessons are always super clear and encouraging. I never feel like things are going too slowly OR too fast.

Highly recommended!"

5 Piano Exercises That Target Your Left Hand

As you're playing the piano, does it feel like your left hand just can't keep up with the right? Here, Corona, CA teacher Milton J. shares a few piano exercises to add to your practice to target this common struggle... The dreaded left hand. The hand with a mind of its own, the hand that lags behind the right, and the hand that does not seem that smart. While all of these conjectures are common, it stems from a lack of detailed attention to developing the accompanying left hand in conjunction …
