About Roseann
I have been teaching piano for almost 40 years. I have a NY state music teachers license, a masters in music therapy from NYU, and a bachelors in Music Education and AFFA certification.
I try to keep the student self-motivated by using music that the student likes, as well as covering the basics. I use props which can be internalized by the student and gradually removed. For example, using stick-on letter names for the notes for a beginner and then removing them one at a time when the student feels ready.
I am friendly and very easy going; I'm not a disciplinarian. If a student doesn't practice for some reason, we practice together at the next lesson. If a student doesn't want to practice at all, I can be very creative in motivating them. I don't believe in parents forcing their children to practice, because this tends to turn the child
off. Even though I tell parents that if your child doesn't want to play, please don't force it; I tend to keep students for many years (maybe it's because the student's self-motivation is so important to me and to their success).
I also have a lot of experience teaching handicapped individuals as a certified music therapist.
The music therapy has enabled me to be a better teacher in general because the therapeutic aspect comes up in all lessons, in one way or another. Music educators focus on the educational goals of music, while music therapists focus more on the therapeutic goals . A therapeutic goal might be increasing concentration span or self-confidence. These issues often need to be addressed in all lessons, and can only help the learning process.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a very easy-going teacher and aim to motivate you. As a music therapist, I have much experience in making each lesson a positive learning experience for you. Most of my professional experience is in teaching piano.
Music intrigued me as a child because I saw learning to play as a great challenge. Because learning to play an instrument can be overwhelming to a student, I have learned through years of teaching to make it understandable - to break it down into steps that will leave you feeling a sense of accomplishment and thinking "I can do this".
I prefer to teach piano lessons, all styles and levels, music theory, music therapy and beginning guitar.
I also teach beginner vocal lessons, and lessons in how to keep the beat
I must add that I have a busy schedule and if a student needs to cancel or reschedule a lesson, I need them to let me know at least 24 hours in advance, or the student will be charged for the lesson.
I'm an animal lover and rescued a homeless cat who lives at the studio. I keep the studio very clean, but
if you're allergic to cats, you may want to consider another teacher. Thank you

*** Studio Equipment ***
Room before living room w/ piano computer, amp seating for parents, Baldwin Professional Upright Piano.
Korg Pa3X keyboard workstation, Yamaha 88 key digital keyboard with Yamaha hammer action (meaning it feels and plays like a real piano - not mushy and easy to press like most keyboards; thereby allowing finger muscle development), Kustom amp, Yamaha 6 string guitar, Ibanez electric guitar, clarinet and a flute. I also have an enormous music library.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I play for various events with the Korg Pa3x, where a one person band is required. I also play the acoustic grand pianos in several independent livings centers in Westchester County as an entertainer or to accompany sing-a-longs.

*** Specialties ***
Classical, popular, classic rock, top 40, jazz. I teach a thorough classical approach and chord method playing for older students or others who simply want to learn to play quickly.

Skillful and professional instructor.

Roseann has a very pleasant personality and makes learning the guitar enjoyable and exciting for my six year old daughter. She gives clear and concise instructions that my daughter can understand and follow on her own while practicing at home. I would highly recommend Roesann to anyone interested in learning the guitar.

Every student is different and every lesson will be different depending on the needs of the individual, and the demands of the day. I use the principles of the Alexander Technique to open up the student's mind and body to new experiences.

I perform and teach guitar professionally. Music is my passion and I love to learn new music and help others learn it as well. I currently specialize in teaching classical guitar with a focus on building strong technique, ear training, and practical applications for using formal and contemporary music analysis skills.

I also love playing jazz and various styles of pop music. I try to bring a similar approach to teaching these as I do in my classical teaching. I want to work on answering questions the music asks of the performer; like how would you play a Country Swing song versus a Jazz Swing song, how would you approach a contemporary Spanish Guitar Suite versus a Baroque Guitar Suite, or how would you play a Taylor Swift song versus a John Mayer song.

Mark is helping our children become disciplined, confident pianists. Prior to beginning lessons with Mark, our two children would advance from song to song but they weren't maximizing the learning opportunities inherent in their music. Mark has helped them learn to use the metronome as a tool (but not a crutch), enhanced their understanding of theory, focused them on dynamics and all around made them better musicians. He has done this with an emphasis on making the kids feel a sense of accomplishment which drives their motivation.

A few years ago I inherited my grandfather's piano. After it sat in my apartment for a couple years I finally decided to take piano lessons. Had no idea who to call or what to look for in a piano teacher. But after some research I found Matthew. The great thing was that he comes to you. I didn't have a lot of free time to go all over the city for piano lesson so he came to my home and it was a very good experience. Matthew really knows how to teach. There's a lot of great piano players in the city but not everyone who can play can also teach. Matthew is very patient and caring and made piano lessons fun and exciting. I definitely recommend Matthew for anyone looking to take lessons, whether younare a,beginner or someone who just wants to hone their skills. I'm glad to say I'm still playing today. Jamie in Chelsea

Matthew was excellent as a teacher for my twins. He was patient and fun, but didn’t spare rigorous expectations. Somehow, he was able to individuate instruction for 2 kids of different aptitude who were observing each other’s lessons, all the while making them both feel confident and energized to learn.

Working with Amanda Baker during the spring of 2017 truly revolutionized the way I think about my voice. We explored techniques that enabled me to understand the ease required for singing above the staff, as well as the intricacies of resonance. The time we spent together was an amazing stepping stone for the Young artist opera program I attended during the summer of 2017. If not for our working together I would not have performed as successfully as I did. She was extremely prudent, diligent, compassionate, and encouraging. She is a grade-A 5-star teacher in my book!

I am a professional singer, songwriter, pianist, recording artist and touring dancer. I was born and raised in Vancouver, BC, Canada and now reside in Nashville, Tennessee. I received my formal musical training with an ARCT in Teaching with the Royal Conservatory of Music. My performing experience plus the formal training, has awarded me the versatility to make learning stress free and fun.

I have an exclusive production contract with a top producer/engineer in Nashville, Grammy nominated Joseph Magee (Pitch Perfect, Miley Cyrus, Jonas Brothers, Metallica, Whitney Houston, Etta James, Manhattan Transfer).

Unique for a young performing artist, I have enjoyed a balance in my life between science and the arts. At a

In the beginning of my performance career, I appeared as a finalist in the Voice of the Philippines and Canadian Idol. I then performed on the road in China, Philippines, Japan, South Korea, UK, Ireland, Hawaii, Polynesia throughout Canada and the USA. In addition, my voice has appeared in TV & Film.

As an educator, I’m proud to say that many of my students have won the highest vocal awards at International Music Competitions, scored high on their music exams and progressed to acceptance at top music universities including NYU, Manhattan.

I met Jerrica through her chorale lesson and after hearing her sing an Ariana Grande song with such ease and brilliant technique, that moment I knew I had to start taking private lessons with her. I have been taking private vocal and songwriting lessons with Jerrica since December 2014 and it has been one of the most amazing experiences in music I’ve had. Jerrica has opened up so much possibilities for me by inspiring me through her music and supporting me through my musical journey. From her knowledge in music theory, piano skills, wide range in vocal styles to songwriting, she has helped me bring out the best in me. I began taking online lessons with her recently and it is definitely the same quality as our lessons that we’ve had in person. Jerrica taught me how be comfortable and confident in my ability and I am beyond grateful to have her as my coach.
