"As a teacher I offer a great deal of knowledge in many styles of music as well as a genuine motivation to impart the love I have for music performance. My journey through music has blessed me with experience in western classical, jazz, blues, and popular styles; all of which allows me to instruct students in whatever their musical goals may be. The lessons are always rooted in observing excellent pianistic technique and fundamental musicianship (ear training, reading music notation, etc). Finally, my students know me to be a patient instructor that consistently works to teach the material in a way that is accessible and relevant to the student's goals."

*** Travel Equipment ***

The student should have a notebook to record our lessons in, a piano/keyboard to play and receive instruction on, and what ever music material I have assigned (course work, lesson book, etc). The keyboard should be 88-key and weighted. If the student is very young then it is not critical that the keyboard have weighted keys but it is still preferable.

Getting up and singing in front of someone for the first time is intimidating. For some reason, we think of singing as something we should already know how to do. Every singing instructor's first challenge is to get their new pupil to sing. Benjamin passed that with flying colors. He cracked jokes, and sang silly songs to me before ever asking me to sing. Eventually, I gave it a shot.

That first lesson took place about two months ago, and since then my singing has gone from off-key and unbearable to pretty ok. Today I received my first impromptu complement on my singing. It was a big deal. Anyone who has ever experienced real stage fright knows that this is a big deal. And if I hadn't started learning from Benjamin, it wouldn't have happened. I do not think anyone else could have actually gotten me to sing. And if anyone else had, I'm not sure they'd have known what to do with me. Run screaming, maybe. Benjamin didn't do that, however. He gave me vocal exercises, and tips not only for practicing, but for practicing in a way that would not harm my vocal chords. He assed my vocal range, gave me warmup exercises, and a few bits of repertoire to start working on. It's working wonders. The difference between my singing a month ago and my singing today is palpable (I checked my recordings, so I can prove it!).

If you're a little nervous about starting singing, this man is your man. He'll set you at ease, and in no time you'll be able to sing.

About Lisa

Hello:
I have been a guitar and voice instructor for over 15 years, and a piano teacher for 3. I have also tutored elementary students and worked for Montessori's for many years. I really love this job! I had a real hard time learning guitar when I was growing up because of an accident to my left arm, but I wanted to play so much that I was able to overcome it. Because of this, I think I have learned to be a very patient teacher. I see students who get frustrated and think that it's too hard to play the guitar, but I promise you my program is fun and simple. I can show you the steps to succes
s. I have taught over 500 students in a variety of cities from Minneapolis Minnesota, to Los Angeles California, and now Portland Oregon. I have had individually and group taught over 28,000 lessons in that time, so I have dealt with every kind of person including those with disabilities. I am currently obtaining my Masters in Music education and Psychology from Marylhurst, and I have taught every age from 5-70. I am also a performer, and I own my own music publishing company through ASCAP (American Society of Composers Authors and Publishers). I currently teach Piano to level 3, so if you are a beginner, you will love my new program. Music is my life, I can help you make your dream of playing a musical instrument come true, even in a few short lessons. You can do it!

* I hold recitals twice a year in May and November. Check out my videos.

*** Lesson Details ***
The thing I have learned over the years teaching guitar, piano or voice, is that everyone learns differently. I have taught in family situations where there are two or three siblings learning at the same time, but each sibling learned the skills that are unique to them. Some students are better at playing rhythm, some students are better at lead, some students are better with barre chords. As long as you are enjoying playing the guitar, you will be able to grow in every area at your own pace. Music should be a fun and rewarding experience. My lessons usually include songs that you like to play and are at your level of playing ability. We can play as a band too. When you are ready, I love to bring out the drum machine while you play guitar and I play the bass notes, giving you the feel of a live group situation that can make learning at your lesson more fun.But if that's not for you we can just play guitar together too, whatever makes you feel the most comfortable is how you will be able to learn the best. Tell me what you need I am always here to help you.

After my oldest daughter had been taking guitar for a while, we decided to start her younger sister on piano. It's so nice to be able to have the lessons back to back. After just one lesson my daughter could already play a song. My daughter decided to play in the recital, and she sounded like a pro after only 6 months. Lisa is very talented as a musician and teacher. She really wants her students to feel successful and to feel engaged. She teaches them classical music as well as what is popular today. I'm amazed at how quickly my daughter is progressing.

My daughter has been taking guitar and sometimes voice lessons for over 2 years now. Lisa is very encouraging and positive. She teaches whatever music my daughter wants to learn and continually encourages her to try new things. She has even helped her and a couple of friends prepare their song for a final in choir class. I would highly recommend Lisa as an instructor.

About Stuart

Stuart C.
Guitarist, Songwriter, Composer
Bachelor of Music in Contemporary Music
Composition and Guitar Performance
I am a guitarist and songwriter currently living in Oregon. I graduated from Western Oregon University majoring in music, specifically pursuing the Bachelor of Music in Contemporary Music with a dual emphasis in composition/songwriting and guitar performance. I played with the Singer/Songwriter combo for most all of my college career, and emerged as one of its most valuable members. I have studied guitar with Christopher Woitach, and I have studied Composition with Bill Whit
ley, Kevin Walczyk, Adam Bates and Christopher Woitach.
I have played and studied many different styles of music, ranging from Country, Bluegrass and Folk to Rock, Blues, R&B, and many more. I have arranged songs from professionals and my peers alike. I also have written and co-written dozens of songs.
I taught with the American Guitar Academy, where I honed my skills as a teacher. I have taught people from all walks of life, all ages and skill levels. I love teaching and helping people reach their goals.

*** Lesson Details ***
I like to start lessons off by getting to know my student. I like to know what kind of music they like and what they want to play. I really want to know who I am teaching. I use a building block teaching style, where everything you learn builds upon or compliments the previous skill. The most important part of lessons is the practicing you do in between each lesson, but you might not have to practice as much as you think. Within 6 months, you will learn all the basic chords, rhythms, and scales. You will also learn all the theory behind them, meaning you will know how they are constructed, how they interact and most importantly how to use them. I teach with practicality in mind - if you won't use it, you won't learn it.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Separate Music Studio: guitar, bass, amps, seating for parents

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide my guitar, and teaching materials. I expect the student to have an instrument.

Nick D.

Tualatin, OR

About Nick

***About Me***
Music is almost more than a passion for me, it's how I hear the world! That guy singing the harmony to the crosswalk jingle? That's me.

Though my love for music began long before I ever picked up an instrument, I began taking guitar lessons at age 10. By age 12 I was writing music and by 13 I played my music at my first talent show with my band. In high school I started studying piano and voice, and performed with the Guitar Program, Jazz Ensemble and Men's Choir. I played solo and with multiple bands, playing rock, acoustic, jazz, rock, metal and classical guitar.

After
High School I spent a year studying music at University of Oregon. Though I enjoyed my time at U of O, I left the next year and moved to Boston to study at the prestigious Berklee College of Music, where I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Music in Film Scoring. While at Berklee, I studied with some of the most acclaimed musicians in the country, studying jazz, arranging, contemporary composition, music production, songwriting and more. After graduating I moved to Los Angeles, where I worked on multiple feature films as a composer's assistant, copyist, music editor and music supervisor. After some time in LA, I decided to relocate to Portland and enroll in Berklee's online Masters Certificate in Music Business and Technology, which I completed in 2013.

Currently, I'm an active composer for film, Television and video games. Though you won't see me performing on stage as often, I'm very often performing and recording myself and other performers in my home studio!

Music can be a great hobby or a path to a fulfilling career - either way, it's a lot of fun!

*** Lesson Details ***
I teach students of all ages! I'm very easy-going, and I'm more than happy to teach what the students want to learn at their own pace - after all, we're here to learn and have FUN!
That being said, I do expect some level of practicing or studying. It's all part of the gig!

During our first lesson, we'll go over what the student's goals are and what styles of music the student is interested in. I use a combination of books, listening, and custom assignments tailored to the student's specific needs.

In the first 3-6 months:

Beginners can expect to have basic knowledge of the instrument and technique, and begin looking at songs incorporate techniques addressed in our lessons.

Intermediate students can expect to address any problematic areas in their technique and begin looking at stretching their understanding of theory and technique into new areas.

I now offer optional lesson "report cards" to students and parents who would like to see how our lessons are progressing!

*** Studio Equipment ***
In-Studio lessons take place in a home studio office, complete with full size electric piano, recording equipment and plenty of room for parents to sit in on the lessons! Parking is plentiful for most of the day.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect students to have their own instrument and copy of lesson material including notes and books. I can provide lesson material while students wait to purchase their own.

*** Specialties ***
Basic to Intermediate Piano.
Basic to Advanced Guitar
Advanced Music Theory and Orchestration.
Genres include Contemporary Styles (Pop, Blues, Country, Funk, Rock) Jazz, and Classical

Nick is a wonderful piano teacher for our daughter. My husband and I have seen a vast improvement in the quality of her piano skills in comparison to her lessons with her previous teacher. We are equally impressed with how Nick keeps our daughter engaged in the lesson and his patience as she learns new material and techniques. Nick has also been very flexible with our schedule as we have unfortunately had to cancel and reschedule more than once-to his credit he has always been understanding. We highly recommend him!

Nick has been an excellent and informative teacher. I'm an older student with a hectic schedule, and he has been more than accommodating. Nick strives to really connect with his students and tailors the experience to their mindset and feelings. I feel stronger as a piano player after every lesson, which is the result I believe most people are looking for.

Each lesson is customized to your learning style and different for everyone depending on what you want to learn. Most of my students like to learn from scratch which would include the following:
In the first 3 lessons you will learn basic guitar fundamentals, basic 1-4-5 song progressions (the stuff that 85% of all music we listen to is made up of), left hand / right hand coordination, picking techniques, how to str
um, mute, & play notes on the guitar.

We can play as a band too. When you are ready, I love to bring out the drum or backing tracks to your favorite artists songs while you play guitar and I play what your not, giving you the feel of a live group situation that can make learning at your lesson more fun.

Genres include Acoustic, Blues, Country, R&B, Funk, Latin, Jazz, Rock, Pop and more.

Ace professional with first class treatment

Tim is a phenomenal instructor! I have tried expensive videos subscription services and have spent hundreds of dollars on Skype lessons with popular YouTube instructors. In the year that I have been playing, one month of lessons with Tim did more for my playing than 11 months with the other methods I've tried. You owe it to yourself to give Tim a month of your time. He transformed my understanding of the guitar, has taught me to be self-sufficient with learning songs I hear, and has made playing exciting. Without being able to articulate exactly what I wanted to accomplish, Tim's uncanny intuition for balancing what I think I needed with what I really need took my playing to the next level very quickly. Nothing can substitute the depth of his musical knowledge, but more importantly, his keen sense of feeding me just what I need from everything he knows. Tim carefully plans out a lesson for me based off of my progress, has me take notes, and gives me ideas on how to improve before my next lesson. The most exciting day of my week is the hour I spend learning from a great instructor and a great human being. I couldn't be happier with my decision to learn how to play from Tim.

He made learning fun & easy.

Great guy, great teacher. Took the time and focused on me during the entire lesson. Geared the lessons specifically for me and my interests and tastes in music. Took a personal interest in me as a person and encouraged me to practice and to explore all the different things I could do with my talent. Would definitely recommend to anyone. Very reasonably priced for all that you get out of the lessons.

My son learned how to effectively play in a band

My son has been taking guitar lessons from Tim for over a year now. I have been very pleased with the progress my son is making. Tim makes my son feel very comfortable, and is more than willing to work with him in any area where he shows an interest. Tim is personable and patient.

Tim is quite flexible with time. He has kindly worked around our schedule whenever necessary. His fees are quite reasonable, and he always errs in our favor in regard to time.

Tim is a great guitar player himself with a true love for the instrument, which shows in his teaching. He was invaluable in helping us pick a reasonably priced, yet quality guitar for our son.

He has taught our son any song my son hears on the radio note for note a real gem.We are quite pleased with Tim's teaching, and highly recommend him.
