I have never touched a guitar before, but always imagined myself learning to play so this was excited to begin. Neco is very professional and his lessons were very easy to follow, even with me being busy with other things like (work.) I still am nervous but he is encouraging and even when Its something simple he answers questions with alot of patience. His teaching style is fun and I appreciate it and plan to really continue with my learning!

This is our first experience with guitar lessons and this online tool (takelessons.com). We love everything, so far! As for Necovelli, we couldn't be happier with his teaching methods, professional demeanor, positive attitude, and overall experience. My son has progressed through his initial lessons with confidence and is modeling Neco's great attitude. I started at 30 minutes per lesson and it just isn't enough time to get through all the curriculum - so we just increased to 1-hour lessons. We are very happy and would recommend both Neco and this site to anyone thinking of signing up!

Marvin A.

Gaithersburg, MD

About Marvin

I help students make the guitar a part of their life, teaching them to play with individuality and creativity.

***for DC In-home students, minimum lesson time must be 60 minutes.***

Taught privately in the Washington DC area for 3 years before moving to NYC to earn my Bachelors of Fine Arts in Music majoring in Jazz Guitar. I am young but very knowledgeable and I have a knack for teaching. I gigged regularly in the DMV and NYC areas and have been doing a lot of shows, private parties, receptions, weddings, and business events. i have made recordings in studios and I am very musically
active. I am extremely passionate, and I live to play, learn, and of course teach the guitar.

*** Lesson Details and Teaching Philosophy ***
I love playing guitar and YOU will too!

The guitar is a fantastic instrument and is so much fun to play. I incorporate musical fun into my lesson as much as I can because I want students to learn how to "play" music not "work" music. I have learned from many great musicians that music is driven by passion and should be enjoyable to the performer and this is felt by the audience. Teaching and learning is similar. I enjoy teaching so much and my students always have a smile on their face after the lesson.

Play the music YOU love!

I have learned in my experience that students show the most growth and progress while learning material that they are interested in. I have been trained to be able to play almost any tune I hear, so I can teach my students how to play their favorite tunes exactly how they hear them!

This means that lessons are customized and fine-tuned for every student!

Slow and steady WINS the race!

Learning music is not a race, but this lesson is true when learning music. I am able to work with students to help them improve by identifying and isolating problems in their playing. I can create simple exercises for the student to slowly and surely become closer to the guitarist they wish to be.

I am very flexible and prioritize the students need over everything else. But with everything I teach, I am able to relate back to theory. I show students how to practice effectively to build their chops. And I of course I can instruct the students how to read and write music, with proper technique. I also have an educated background with Theory and Ear Training, all of which I pass on to all my students.

I care very much about my students and love to see them excel!

*** Studio Equipment ***
music studio in basement; amps; guitars (acoustic & electric); cables, music stands, sheet music

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide with me sheet music paper, a music stand, and a small amplifier if necessary.

The student should have a private space suitable to take lessons in and a guitar to learn with.

*** Specialties ***

We only just started with Marvin, but he is professional and patient with my son. My first impression of Marvin is very good and he is very soft spoken and friendly! In just two lessons, I have already seen progress and we are now looking forward to working weekly with him. My son choose Marvin as his teacher, after reading about him on the web-site and it was his choice to continue lessons. He is very excited about learning more and playing guitar with Marvin! In fact, we are adding an extra supplemental session between lessons. THANK YOU MARVIN!!

I would definitely recommend Marvin as a music coach/instructor to anyone. He has vast set of knowledge when it comes to music and its theory and he continues to inspire me as I learn more about music. He incorporates not only his knowledge but also his experiences when teaching guitar and music in general. He is open to new ideas on how to make learning as fun and as interesting as possible, for instance, he starts off with what you know and what you want to know more, in order to create a lesson plan specifically designed to your style and passion.

Marvin has helped me build a strong foundation in music, and I believe that he can also help you accomplish the same goal!

Helped me find my passion

In middle school, I really didn't have very much direction and I was afraid of going to high school. To make friends, I decided to go out for one of the high school's audition choirs, and though I didn't make it into the elite choir, I made the women's choir. I was happy, but I was afraid to sing out even in front of the other girls in the choir. I didn't have any confidence in my voice and most of them knew how to read music and sight-sing. I didn't. I started taking lessons with Ms. Jenni in the fall of my freshman year in the hopes of catching up with the other girls and eventually auditioning into the elite choir before my senior year.

That was three years ago. I now read music and sight sing and have much more confidence in my voice. I made the elite choir at my school in the spring of my sophomore year-- and in my junior year we performed at the White House! Jenni has encouraged me to participate in competitions and summer music programs that have helped me grow even more. I am seriously considering majoring in music in college after I graduate in 2014.

Jenni has been such a wonderful teacher. She really "gets me" and her encouragement has helped me find my passion. She's always positive and helpful and treats each student like they are her only one. I just love her and I will miss her when I go to college--because without her I really don't know where I would have ended up.

I really appreciated the way Jenni made me feel welcome and comfortable through her outgoing attitude and encouragement. She also made a point to relate to me on a personal level which was very important to me as well and contributed to my comfortability and progress. I definitely plan on taking lessons from her again in the future!
