Eric W.

Rockford, IL

About Eric

For over 20 years I've helped vocal students of all ages to excel, in public and private schools, and on the college level. My passion is to enable those I work with, beginning to advanced, to maximize their vocal potential! Currently I teach from my home studio in Rockford, Illinois.

Embracing a variety of vocal styles, from classical to contemporary, my current and former students have excelled in musical theater, aced college auditions, traveled as lead singers with rock bands, recorded music videos and reached the higher levels of American Idol auditions. My lessons blend solid vocal t
echnique, while also reflecting the unique needs and goals of each student.

I hold both Bachelors and Masters degrees in vocal music and have directed groups traveling internationally to more than 20 countries on four continents. I've personally produced more than 20 full-scale musical/theatrical productions with casts of over 200 and audiences of up to 10,000. And I've promoted concert events for more than 40 nationally known artists including Randy Travis, Chris Tomlin, Jeremy Camp and Mercy Me.

Classical Voice · In studio
For five semesters I studied voice with Eric Walker at Rock Valley Community College. He took the time to show me the basics of using your voice properly in singing. Mr. Walker was patient in teaching me how to breathe deeply which has helped me in my singing today. Also, he taught me how to have more forward resonance when singing. In addition, he prepared me well for my college auditions. I was able to walk into my auditions confidently and sing with clarity.

I took lessons from Eric when I was about 18 years old. He is a very good teacher and is patient but also expects growth with every rehearsal. It really paid off especially with me singing so much and traveling. I use every technique that he has taught me!

I took lessons with Eric for a few months before moving out of state and enjoyed learning from him. He took time to choose songs that I enjoyed singing but also songs that would stretch my ability as a vocalist. He provides a friendly and relaxed environment for learning and is passionate about seeing students succeed!

Dan has taught for about 10 years and speaks with efficient feedback. His experiences playing in ensembles has made him an extremely strong musician. I would recommend him for any advanced brass lesson tutoring. He can relate to people of any age so younger students would benefit from his energetic nature as well.

Julie B.

Loves Park, IL

About Julie

The ability to play the piano and sing have been the greatest gifts in my life, and I have always wanted to share that gift with others. I love nothing better than to help a student learn to love music and gain confidence in their ability to perform.
I earned a BA in Music Ministry with a Piano Pedagogy Minor and have been teaching piano since 2008. In the last year, I have added voice/singing lessons and online lessons. I have taught ages 4-adult and enjoy helping each student succeed. My local students students have two recitals every year, which gives the opportunity to share what we have
been working on and celebrate successes every six months.
I firmly believe that theory and the ability to read music are important skills that should be learned, whether on their own, or as part of music lessons. Once you can understand notation and theory, a whole new world opens up to you.

Ben W.

Sycamore, IL

About Ben

Hello! Thank you for taking the time to read through my background as your look for a drum teacher. Simply put: I love all things drums and percussion! By studying with me, you will learn how to read music (rhythm and pitch), learn fundamental stick/mallet techniques for the essential areas of drums/percussion, snare and keyboard mallets, and many important patterns and perfomance techniques necessary for success playing drumset and other percussion instruments.

Briefly, I have over 20 years of professional experience with a Bachelor of Music in Percussion Performance and a Post-Baccalaurat
e degree for my Illinois K-12 Music Teaching Licensure, both from Northern Illinois University. I have taught every age group of students from all diverse backgrounds. I have written many solos for marimba and snare drum and written drum music for many middle school/high school/college drum lines in Tennessee and Illinois, where I played professionally for over 10 years. These age groups cover everything from elementary students up through adult beginners. I have played with every type of band on small club stages to full-size festival stages. My students use a combination of my experienced teaching materials (curriculum) with other popular method books to help better serve each student's needs based on their strengths and weaknesses. I believe ever new student should be able to read music after studying with me and I make sure they are able to do this and learn the skills necessary to play with any school band or other type of band. I also combine modern technology with all drumming techniques, like Ableton Live and Garageband software, for recording/playback and Roland electronics to help with timing and play-alongs. I teach the two most common percussion grips: matched (most common) and traditional (more common in marching and jazz drumming). The word grip refers to how you hold the sticks and is essential for learning more advanced techniques that will help with learning more difficult music, whether for school- band auditions, state contests, or a different band audition. I have two drum sets and a marimba (keyboard mallets) in the lesson room for their lessons, among other percussion items. I'm an easy-going person and always eager to help each student become better skilled in their percussion studies while studying with me! :)

Ben has been able to get more out of my sons (beginner drums) than I ever would have thought possible in such a short period of time. He challenges my son every week and sets realistic expectations and goals. Ben has also been flexible and accommodating to meet the needs of me and my son. Overall, great experience.
