Jason C.

Mount Airy, MD

About Jason

I have been playing guitar for over 20 years. I was blessed to have a great instructor who motivated me and provided me with a great foundation to build upon. I would like to be able to pay it forward and do the same for you. I studied music at UMBC, and I received certifications in audio production and recording techniques from the Omega Studios School of Recording Arts and Sciences. Along the way, I have learned how to play many other instruments and sing. I have worked with many great musicians over the years, been in several bands, recorded professionally in several studios, and performed
in numerous venues around the DC, Baltimore and Annapolis, as well as Nashville. I worked in musical instrument sales for 4 years, so I have a vast knowledge of musical gear, and would like to share that knowledge with you. My current passion is to put my knowledge and experiences to use in guiding students to learn everything they will need to know to become the musician they aspire to be.

Jason was a very good instructor. He is patient and very easy to work with. I get frustrated easily, but he kept me motivated and I really enjoyed playing guitar more after our lessons together.

Gabby is a great violin teacher. She customizes her lessons to your needs, and she encourages and gives great pointers throughout the lesson. My daughter leaves her lessons with so much more knowledge and hints - than when she came with to the lesson. I have seen her improve greatly in her playing in just a few lessons.

I have known Dan Puziss for many years. I met him when he became part of Zion Lutheran’s Contemporary Band as the drum player. I approached him about giving my teenage daughter drum lessons and he was more than accommodating. He gave her lessons for about six months. He was very knowledgeable and always made the lesson fun for her. I would certainly recommend him to others as a drum teacher.

"I am writing this review for Dan P, a Towson University alumnus. I have had the privilege to teach Dan drum set and jazz studies for the past four years at Towson University and he will be an excellent teacher. Dan is dependable, intelligent, and a hard worker. He is a dedicated serious musician and a role model for younger students. Dan’s excellent execution and beautiful touch make him a very musical performer. He is always prepared, has an enthusiasm for learning, and he is clearly a leader among his peers. Dan will continue to be highly successful in his musical pursuits."

Dan was the first drum teacher we had for our son, who was in eighth grade at the time. Dan was excellent at introducing our son to percussion methods and styles. He was respectful and engaging. Even though Dan was inexperienced at the time, he was a natural at teaching. I have always appreciated the start Dan gave my son.

Louise C.

Frederick, MD

About Louise

I received my Bachelor of Music in Percussion Performance from Shepherd University in 2016. I have been performing for almost a decade in a wide variety of styles and ensembles, and teaching professionally since 2014. My specialty is in marimba performance.

▶ Performance Highlights:
- Spires Brass Band, Frederick, MD, 2016-present
- National Music Festival, Chestertown, MD, 2014
- Two Rivers Chamber Orchestra, Shepherdstown, WV, 2014-2015
- Windsor Regiment Drum & Bugle Corps (DCA), 2012
- The Fredericktowne Players Orchestra (“Curtains” 2011; “Babes in Arms” 2016)
- Shepherd Univer
sity Honors Recital, March 2016
- Shepherd University Wind Ensemble Tour of France & Monaco, May 2013
- Guest Conductor, Celebration Ringers, Frederick Church of the Brethren, February 2013

I have studied orchestral percussion with Dr. Michelle Humphreys, Dane Palmer, and Dr. Charles Reader, drum set with Ronnie Shaw, jazz improvisation with Kevin Pace, and composition with Dr. Mark Andrew Cook. I have composed numerous works for marimba, percussion ensembles, piano, and other mixed ensembles.

▶ My teaching style
I focus on teaching control, musicality, and well-roundedness to achieve musical excellence. I believe that an open mind is essential when approaching and analyzing music, and I implore my students to ask questions and to think independently.

I assign listening assignments often, to broaden musical knowledge and allow students to discover their individual taste and style. The ideal percussionist possesses a great knowledge of contemporary literature in addition to significant repertoire in history, and therefore much of my focus is music of the present.

Along with teaching technique, repertoire, and musical analysis, I will focus on developing proper practice skills, and how to overcome problems that develop during individual practice, in an effort to establish musical independence.

▶ Studio information
My home studio is equipped with a 4.0 octave marimba, snare drum, drum set, piano, cajon, djembe, frame drums, and other accessories.

Nic B.

Thurmont, MD

About Nic

My name is Levi, and I've been playing since I was nine years old. I began to frequent open mics around Frederick when I was 16, and have since played several shows. I realeased my first album, 'Stargazer' last year, and am currently working on my second. I can be found at Café Nola, and the Cellar Door on any given Monday, and Tuesday night respectively. I'm also the lead singer for local bands Beavers Cleaver, and Eskimo the Bean. I've always done well with helping kids with their schoolwork and music, and explaining things to them in a way they understand. I achieve this, mainly, because I
don't look down on them, and rather than calling them out for making a mistake, I encourage them, and help them find a way to learn from it, and get around the obstacle on their own.
