From my songs, I am powerless to power-girl, I became a transformational singer/songwriter, coach, speaker, workshop host and author of the book, Change the World - Write Your Song! I have written songs since my teens and I found a kinship to writing songs that was driven by dynamics, power and the transformation music has to myself, to others and to the world. All I want to be is a transformational singer/songwriter and now teacher. It's my turn to help you write your song. I have been writing songs for over 25 years. At 35, I returned to school and got an Associate of Art degree in music at Sa
nta Barbara City College and a Bachelor of Art degree in music at University California Santa Barbara. After receiving my degree from the University in 2001, I plunged back into my first love songwriting and started recording. In 2004, I released my CD, Faded Fiction. These were songs that I recorded in 1998, while attending school. Then in 2007, I released a second CD, The Ballad Of Calamity. In 2011, I self -published my first book, Change The World; Write Your Song! Book I - Fundamentals and beyond for the Aspiring Singer/Songwriter. I have been busy working on book II, writing songs, working for a non-profit After school program called, Girls Rock SB, teaching privately, singing and acting with Santa Barbara Revels, performing with my band The Stone Phoneys - Linda Ronstadt Tribute and recording.

Special note to the Parents of prospective music students:

Many doctors and scientist are also musicians because it is a creative craft stimulating a part of the brain that academics does not. Music will always be around and when you learn music you also learn; math, language, history, reading and science. Whether your child continues in music or not, the benefits of knowing music are documented.

Together with your child I will help them realize their greatness. They can learn so much about themselves just by writing their song. I have a unique perspective on the pre-teen and teen because that is when I began writing songs. If only I knew then what I know now! This is something I can do for your child. For me, songwriting was my escape and my therapy. I survived my troubled teens through music. And now I want to teach your child all I know. Combined with some performance opportunities! Your child will love it! Most of my kids get a kick out of my lessons. I am very patient and yet provide incentives to inspire motivation for the possibilities of great things.

To teach "The Whole Musician" means to teach, voice, guitar and/or piano, songwriting, performance, recording and the music business. I teach anyone who wants to learn. With this "whole musician" style of teaching, we will together create your unique style by focusing on your strengths.

Music has the power to influence and change lives, therefore changing the world. As a beginning singer/songwriter, you will discover how to look within first, before creating your song and exploring your voice. This process ultimately encourages you to resolve and evolve emotionally. Once you’re ready to share your song with the world, it will be your song and no one else. My objective is to help you create your song, your voice, your style!

~ Beginning Vocal Lessons: Learn scales, harmonies, vocal tech, music theory & musicianship, learn to read vocals parts and more complex songs, performance experience.

~ Learn beginning guitar, piano and bass. Learn the basics, chords, scales, TABs and how to read simple music charts. Also, learn the basics in music theory, musicianship and to read music.

I wrote a book and believe that songwriting is very therapeutic and easy to learn. I mostly like to teach a student by ear but can teach them how to read music too. I also love to teach how to perform, record and to find their best singing voice.

I recommend Jenna to all levels of learners!

I knew nothing about playing the guitar before my first lesson. She made me feel comfortable right away and was able to help me learn quickly. She also helped me with my singing at the same time. She let me pick the music I was interested in and gave me tips on how to learn at home too. She is also very nice and patient.

Baritone Daniel Collins has performed at Carnegie Hall and with the Metropolitan Opera chorus in New York City. He received his Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance from the University of North Texas and earned both his Master of Music and Doctor of Music degrees in Vocal Performance from Florida State University. Dr. Collins was a finalist in the Dallas and El Paso Opera Guild Competitions, the NATS Singer of the Year Competition, and the NATSAA National Competition. He has performed in opera, concerts, and recitals throughout the United States and as a soloist at some of the most prestigious churches and synagogues in New York City and Washington, D.C. Dr. Collins was described by Tim Page with the Washington Post as a “funny, exuberant, and enormously likable” Papageno during Summer Opera Theater’s performance of The Magic Flu
te. The Post also celebrated him in Opera Theater of Northern Virginia’s The Barber of Seville as a “bright and bouncy” Figaro who delivered his lines with “aplomb.” He was a young artist in the studio programs of Portland Opera, Kentucky Opera, and El Paso Opera.

This was my first private lesson with Dr. Daniel, most importantly he made me feel very comfortable and I wasn't afraid to sing notes in front of him. Dr.Daniel took the time to gather my history and take notes about what I said. Dr. Daniel was very thorough for our first visit, even though I had only booked my first class to be 30 minutes. About Alex
Alex was born May 31, 1987. Since both of his parents were band directors, he grew up in a very musically inclined family. When he was 15 years old, during his freshman year of high school, he started studying percussion. A year later he began studying under Chad Kohler and continued to do so until 2009. During spring semester of 2009 he studied briefly under Richard Walker at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). In the fall of that year he then transferred to Butler University for an academic year and studied under Craig Hetrick and Jon Crabiel.

Beginning in 2011 Alex began studying attending University of Indianapolis and is currently studying under Paul Berns as well as Art Reiner. In addition to studying with them he has also went back to continue to study with his mentor Chad Kohler. In the time since Alex gr
aduated high school, he has been continuously presented with teaching opportunities. At the time, though, music was not looking like the best course of action for him. With the aid of Chad Kohler, Alex then began getting more involved with teaching percussion. Alex eventually went on to arranging his own parts for his students, as well as composing original percussion ensemble pieces. Alex is currently pursuing his Master's Degree in Music Technology at IUPUI.

In the time since he has been out of high school, he has taught at a number of schools including the Lynhurst 7th & 8th Grade Center, North Putnam Jr./Sr. High School, Broad Ripple Magnet School for the Arts & Humanities, and Lawrence Central. He has also taught at Arlington High School and Short Ridge High School.

When it comes to teaching music, what is known to be as the “Holy Trinity” comes to mind. While teaching I personally believe that it is important to challenge students just enough so that they are not discouraged and are still able to have fun.

The Holy Trinity plays a big role in this. What it consists of is embracing your students from all angles. This would be from ensembles and private lessons, which in turn then encourage them to practice. Ensemble, private lessons, and practicing are the three main categories that make up the “Holy Trinity.” And in using this, you can also be more involved with your students as well. It is always a good idea be friend your students as well and not just be the “teacher.” There is a great quote that goes like this, “They will never care about how much you know, until they know how much you care.” In which case has been proven to be very true time and time again.

It is important as a teacher to be able to inspire your students and to encourage them. Which is why I think it is important to be a good friend as well to your students. This way a kind of trust is formed and in turn can easily lead to the success of a music program. Also I do believe that it is important to expose students to as many forms of music as possible. This way they are not just stuck in one kind of mind set and if they choose to go into music for their career, then they have many different experiences they can pull and relate from. Plus they will also have some more knowledge of different cultures and music genres that can help not only create better music but also be more overall worldly in their personal life out side of music. Being able to learn about music is very important, and can easily impact a student’s life in many different ways that most subjects just do not have the capability to. This is what I believe about learning music and why I also love to teach it. I want my students to be able to have all the same great experiences I have had and more. Which is why I personally believe so heavily in a good music education.

*** Lesson Details ***
Although the approach to teaching that I use comes across as being pretty laid back, I do expect what some might consider to be a lot out of my students. This is because I want to make sure that my students will be successful as musicians.

While a student is studying with me; they will learn about percussion from multiple angles. They will learn and be able to understand many basic music theory terms and principles. They will also learn how each percussion instrument is tied to one another in technique and how to easily transition from instrument to instrument.

Depending on the age of the student, after about three months of studying with me, the student will know a few major scales, most of the standard American rudiments, and some basic drum set concepts. After 6 months, the student will know all 12 major scales, be familiar with all 40 snare drum rudiments, and know a good portion of basic drum set.

Please keep in mind that results may vary depending on the age of the student and the amount of practicing they do on their own. Results also depend upon whether or not they are practicing correctly, which is something they will also learn how to do with me.

In-studio lessons in basement with acoustic drum set. Street parking or drive way. Seating available for parents.

Lessons at the High School will be in the band room with their equipment.

I absolutely love teaching! I taught private piano lessons in Gainesville, Florida and throughout my doctorate program. I graduated from Dickinson College with Neuroscience, Biology, and Music degrees. I have been playing piano for over 20 years through private lessons as well as national and international competitions. I have always had piano in my life and love to share my passion with others!

*** Lesson Details ***
I love to make lessons fun and painless. I require minimal practice time outside of the lesson (although more is always better!!) I commonly use Faber Piano Adventures series for beginner students, but I also love to give a student another piece from a well known composer to give them a bit of a challenge for us to work through together. I am extremely understanding of busy schedules. After 3 months of beginner lessons,
my students knows how to play several small pieces and are developing their technique. By technique, I mean how to sit at the piano, place the hands at the piano, and touch the keys! They will feel comfortable playing their pieces and some may play them by memory! I plan the lessons so that they are always very fun.

I have an upright apartment piano with absolutely beautiful tone. It is located in the living room with seating for parents.

is the perfect lesson time for most purposes. Options include piano, voice, ukulele, beginning guitar, music reading/theory, and preparation for auditions. Teresa also conducts early childhood music sessions for 3 to 5 year-olds and is available to do group sessions.

45-minute and 60-minute sessions are also available as needed. Teresa recommends 45 minutes to an hour for audition preparation.

I have had a few music teachers before Teresa, but none have had the kindness, patience, or skill that she has. I came into my first session with very little guitar knowledge but Teresa was able to meet me at my level and develop my skills quickly and effectively in order to meet my goals. We also worked on piano and voice and she excelled at teaching all three instruments. I recommend Teresa wholeheartedly!

Scott has been teaching music for over 25 years. His method has evolved over time to meet the demands of changing musical styles and he has developed plenty of material to help students achieve their musical goals. His training started at GIT (
Guitar Institute of Technology) in Hollywood where he gleaned 30+ yrs. of information from world renowned guitarists and musicians. Scott went on to graduate from Belmont University with honors in Composition and Arranging. Playing in Rock, R&B, Country, Classical and Jazz original and cover bands has enhanced his skills and made him a well rounded musician. He has the ability to teach these styles and make a living playing them.

Scott teaches all levels of students from beginner to advanced as well as the "signed artist" who have recording deals and need a little extra coaching. He has taught well known musician's family members and many of Scott's former students have gone on to make a career of their own in music as teachers, performers or composers.

I took weekly electric guitar lessons with Scott from 2004 to 2012. He is without a doubt an extremely talented, enthusiastic, and compassionate teacher. Whether he was helping me learn basic chords or teaching me complicated songs, Scott never wavered in his dedication to teaching. Over the eight years as his student, Scott gave constructive criticism in a courteous manner. He was on time, inquisitive about the songs and music I was listening to, and ended lesson with new material for me to practice. I wholeheartedly recommend Scott to any aspiring guitar student.

I'm a composer, and I chose this career partly as an excuse keep exploring all the other subjects I find interesting. Most of my pieces start with an extramusical idea – perhaps related to math, literature, programming, psychology, economics, you name it. I then explore and implement this idea as a computer program, and use that program to create a piece.

I've been incredibly lucky in the education I've received. I did my undergrad at Stanford, where I majored in music (composition and piano performance), but I also took a wide variety of classes while I was there, including physics, honors math, psychology, linguistics, computer science, among other things. I never resented general education requirements, because they were an excuse to take classes I otherwise might not make time for.

After my undergrad, I stayed at Stanford to do a
Master's Degree in Music, Science, and Technology. I then took a couple of years off of school, tutoring both privately and at an after-school program for low-income students. The latter was incredibly rewarding, and I worked with students on any and all academic subjects they were struggling with. Finally, I decided it was time to go back to school and really devote myself to composing. I have been a PhD student at UCSB for several years now, and it has been a blast.

All this is to say that I've been tutoring people in all sorts of subjects for almost 10 years: piano, violin, music theory and composition, high school math, calculus, physics, writing, literature, SAT prep. I think that because of my eclectic interests, I can help students make unusual and interesting connections between and within different subject areas. I have experience teaching all ages, from kids to retired doctors who want to learn to compose.

When I took my first tutoring job, I remember feeling that it was crazy that I was getting payed to do something that I was enjoying so much. Teaching is a true passion of mine, and will certainly be part of my life for years to come.

I began playing Clarinet in middle school band. I quickly discovered that music was what I wanted to do with my life. Through years of hard work, I began to make that dream a reality. I studied Clarinet Performance with Robert Chesebro at Furman University where I earned my Bachelors degree in Music Performance. I began teaching at this time and loved every minute of it. From there I went to LSU for graduate school and studied with Robert DiLutis.

I joined the US Army as a Clarinet player and spent 4 years performing with the 82nd Airborne Division All-American Band and Chorus.
