About Jesus
Jesus Garcia has more than 20 years experience teaching piano and 10 years teaching the Suzuki piano method, with dozens of his students playing successfully in recitals, competitions, and auditions around the Chicago area.

He completed his Masters of Music in Piano Performance with a scholarship from Roosevelt University, Chicago, Il. Renowned Mexican pianist Jorge Federico Osorio and Dr. Ludmila Lazard were his advisers and professors. In addition, during his program at Roosevelt University, Jesus took a course aimed at developing figure base and harpsichord performance with Dr. David Schrader.

In 2012 he was certified piano Suzuki teacher by the Suzuki Association of the Americas.

Jesus performs solo recitals and lieder by Rachmaninoff, Shubert, and Schumann with his wife the soprano Darina Assenova in festivals such as “
Shubertiade”, which is organized by Pianoforte Foundation in Chicago and Make Music Chicago.

He often performs in Cultural Festivals in Mexico and United States and has performed with major orchestras as a soloist and as accompanist.

All his piano students are active as performers. Jesus always encourages them to perform in public, looking for piano festivals, competitions, recitals, auditions and any opportunities where they can showcase their talent. His students have been accepted in pre-college music schools in Chicago.

*** Lesson Details ***
I focus on the basic piano technique skills when I start with a new student, it includes good posture of the body, good hand shape, firm fingertips, loose arm weight, good position of each finger, and flexible wrist. I always look for a rich tone production when playing each key of the keyboard in order to create a beautiful musical discourse throughout the piano piece.

When the student is from 3 to 6 years old I use the Suzuki method. When the student is older than 6 I combine the traditional and Suzuki method having great results with the student's performances.

My Philosophy: All my students learn to play piano in an artistry, confident, and joyful way.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lessons in living room with upright piano, couches, bookshelves, etc. Parents can sit in on lessons.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide copies of some piano works. But I also expect my students to buy their own books and have their own instrument.

*** Specialties ***
For beginners, I use either the Faber or Thomson method. I can teach the Suzuki method too. I specialize in Classical music, but I can also teach pop music for piano.

My girls started taking lessons from Mr. Garcia at age 4. He is an excellent instructor and keeps lessons and weekly practice assignments fun and challenging. He uses a combination of methods to best suit the interests of each of my daughters. They really look forward to their weekly lessons. I have seen significant progress in their piano skills. Mr, Garcia is very good at acknowledging their accomplishments which is extremely important for young, beginning piano players. I highly recommend him.

Take lessons online at her studio in South Lake Tahoe, California, or in in Placerville, California.

FAQs:

Do I need to have any musical experience to learn to play the Celtic harp?

It's not necessary to have any prior musical background before embarking on harp lessons. If you have never taken up an instrument before, Anne will teach you harp technique and how to read music, too. It's a plus if you have some past musical experience, because you'll already know the rudiments of reading sheet music. Anne teaches from ages 7 and up. If your child is younger than 7 and anxious to play the harp, get them started on the piano first. This way, when they come to Anne at an older age, they will already know how to read music (harp sheet music and piano sheet music look alike).

Is the harp difficult to learn?

It's no more difficult to learn than any other instrument. If you really want to learn and you practice, you'll learn quickly. It's all about motivation.

Do I need to own a harp to learn to play?

For online lessons, you'll need to have your own harp. You can also buy a harp from Anne. She uses Triplett Harps as rentals and can help you get started on a rent-to-own harp, and is an authorized dealer if you decide you want to purchase a harp in the future. (Note: Anne only rents to students taking lessons from her in her studio. Rentals are not available to students taking online lessons.)

What does Anne teach?

Anne assesses your goals and your experience before designing a learning path that is right for you. For this reason, her lessons are always one-on-one and not taught in a group fashion. Of course, parents are welcome to sit in on their child's lesson.

What is Anne's experience?

Anne studied music theory and received her formal music education at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). When the Celtic harp piqued her interest, she studied harp techniques from world-renowned harpist Sylvia Woods and later contributed to her book Music Theory & Arranging Techniques for Folk Harps. Anne also studied professional stage performance with Ed Hooks (San Francisco, CA) and at the Living History Centre (Novato, CA). Anne applied her formal training to teaching music for the Los Angeles Unified School District. She continues to work with students presenting educational demonstrations for school assemblies. Anne has given workshops to students in the Sacramento Waldorf School, El Dorado Union School District, Merced Union High School District, and Minden Elementary School. She has taught harp since 1987, offering educational demonstrations, focused workshops, and taking on private students. She performed on the 2015 GRAMMY® Award Winning Best New Age Album, "Winds of Samsara".

About Maximillian
I've been playing music since I was 7 years old. The first record I remember playing on repeat and learning all the lyrics to was The Beatles' Rubber Soul. My musical tastes span many genres including rock, funk, R&B, jazz, folk, and many more. I love helping people discover new music, because hearing a great record for the first time can be a life changing experience. Although I first learned to play by ear, I took a strong interest in music theory in school, so I am able to teach in either style. I've been teaching lessons for 10 years now, and have watched my students grow into great players. I studied music at Ramapo College of New Jersey, worked as a touring musician and audio engineer in Nashville for 3 years, and now reside in Boston, where I play with many different musical groups. I also studied with legendary studio owner and au
dio engineer Lou Gonzalez, founder of QUAD Studios. His new studio, QUAD Lakeside in Raymond, Maine, is one that I helped build and use to record and produce bands from around the northeast.

About Pete
My drumming adventure began when I was in elementary school, where I joined the school band. I soon branched out to marching band, learning the rudiments and developing stick control. Of course, I also started playing drum kit, both in school and with friends. Playing rock music for fun eventually lead me to drum circles, where I discovered the wide world of percussion. At this point, I started studying several instruments with world-class teachers, including Babatunde Olatunji on African djembe, Zakir Hussain on the tablas of India, and frame drumming with Layne Redmond. These great musicians not only demonstrated technical and artistic skill, but they also helped me to see that we are all connected by rhythm - we are surrounded by it and filled with it all the time. Day turns to night, the heartbeat moves our blood, the seasons tu
rn - these are just a few of the rhythms that people express musically in unique ways around the planet.

Soon I wanted to share what I had learned with others. This lead to the creation of Pangaea Percussion, an ensemble featuring drums from around the world along with a variety of melodic percussion, flutes, and didgeridoos. I also played with a Middle Eastern Folk / Jazz group called Slow Djinn Fez, and the new age jam band, Mandra. Each of these groups was asked by Reno's Pioneer Center Youth Programs to perform for schools and libraries in the region. Today I continue these school assembly programs with Petroglyph, a duet that includes ethnic instruments along with drum kit and electric guitar.

In the mean time, I started teaching drumming. Using my educational experience as a high school science teacher, I developed both private and group lessons that break musical concepts down into a series of components. Students are invited to pick up the pieces that fit their needs and abilities, and then we add layers to build skills and add variety. These lessons have been presented in a variety of settings, including dance studios, private homes, and music festivals such as the California World Music Festival in Grass Valley.

Whether you want to jam on the drum kit in our great American rock and roll tradition, learn interlocking polyrhythms from Africa, or explore complex cycles like 7-beat or 10-beat rhythms from India, I'd love to help you take your percussive skills to the next level!

About Sydney
Sydney Rose C. began studying musical theatre at age 8, and operatic music at age 10. At 14, Sydney began taking private voice lessons under Allison Amidon, a USC Professor of music. She has participated in opera concerts with a live orchestra including performing The Flower Duet, one of the most difficult Aria’s to perform on a technical vocal level, at the age of 13. Her many credits include but are not limited to: Maria in West Side Story, Maria in The Sound of Music, Hodel in Fiddler on the Roof, Christine in Phantom of the Opera, Marian in The Music Man, Cinderella in Into the Woods and many more.

Her passion for the performing arts collided with her love for students in 2010 when Sydney began choreographing and giving vocal lessons. She thrives off igniting the musical spark within children to help them build confidence and find
their voices. Through music as a vessel, she teaches them discipline and hard work that they will carry with them throughout the rest of their lives. Sydney firmly believes that music can empower young people and equip them with the life skills they need to be successful.

Ms. Sydney is an amazing teacher. I remember doing my first musical with her and I signed up for singing lessons to get extra help. She really gave me confidence and taught me how to project, which I had a hard time with. She helped me learn how to properly use my voice through relaxation so I wouldn't ruin it!

I have been taking vocal lessons with Ms. Sydney for three years now and I can confidently say that she has taught me more than any other person. When I first came to her I was shy about my singing and I barely knew anything even though I took countless vocal lessons with other teachers. I knew that she would help me go a long way even after our first vocal lesson. She is special because she doesn’t just teach because she has to wants to help you grow and it’s clear that she cares. That is why I’m still with her today.
