I have been teaching this subject for over 16 years. The main curriculum for beginners is Alfred's Basic Piano Library. There are three beginner levels (beginner, late, adult) and one will be selected after the first meeting. For non-beginning students, the course of study will be developed based on past experience, current abilities, and goals. It is not necessary to know how to read music at the first lesson for beginners. However, learning to read is a part of subsequent lessons. Music is not learned "by ear." A certain amount of theory will be a part of every lesson just as technique and repertoire. Students should come to the first lesson prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study.

Methods: Your goals are central to my teaching. I will work with you to make sure we are on the right path to achieving them. I make sure to also get a good grasp of each student's learning style. I make custom learning materials for each lesson, which I spend lots of careful thought and time on to ensure the best experience. It's important that we focus on what you want to learn and have fun doing it! By taking this customized approach, I am able to adapt things and build on them to get you where you want to be. We will also learn songs of your choosing, possibly adapted to your current playing level.
Background: I have been playing for over 15 years and have a degree from Berklee College of Music. In addition to teaching, I have experience in music production, songwriting, and playing live and in the studio. I'm just as open to playing pop and rock songs (seriously, no ...

I have 7 years of experiencing, and specialize in beginning and intermediate students. All ages are welcome. Lessons are customized and designed around the needs and goals of each student. Not only will you be playing beautiful music, but you will also be building a foundation of ear training, technique, note reading, music theory, and more. I love to inspire students and help them develop into strong, well rounded musicians. Laughter and fun are encouraged! Let's begin!

I have taken in person lessons from several teachers over the span of many years and I can honestly say that none of these have advanced my abilities as efficiently and effectively as my online lessons with Zhana.
I began lessons with Zhana because, even though I was taking regular in-person lessons at the time, I was frustrated struggling with making progress due to years of accumulated bad habits which had gone uncorrected by other instructors. These habits hindered my ability to play expressively, led me to procrastinate practicing and limited the range of music available to me. So, not knowing what to expect, I decided give online lessons a try as a supplement to my regular in person lessons.
One difference with in person lessons is that, because of the slight but significant time lag involved in most internet connections, simultaneous accompaniment by the instructor isn’t often a very workable teaching option for on-line lessons Because of this limitation online lessons require, in my view, an experienced and focused instructor who has an ability to observe and communicate.
Instructors with these qualifications may not be available in your local neighborhood but Zhana is just such a person. She has patiently and perceptively identified and corrected my accumulated bad habits, helped me develop my technical abilities beyond my expectations, provided me with a concrete approach to and enthusiasm for regular practice and guided me into a larger world of repertoir and musical expression.
After two years of lessons from Zhana I consider myself indeed fortunate to have found a teacher who demonstrates such ability and enthusiasm for teaching, such genuine interest in and concern for me as a student, and such a kind and empathetic attitude towards me as a person.
I encourage violinists, both those who are just beginning and would like to benefit from learning proper technique from the outset, (rather than have to painfully unlearn bad habits later on) and intermediate to advanced players, who would like to take advantage of the conservatory level instruction that she provides, to contact Zhana for a lesson."
When it comes to incredible guitar players, David Gilmour of Pink Floyd takes the cake. In this article, teacher Bernard M. shows you how to play the guitar just like the legend himself... Many musicians strive to sound like their heroes. They want to get that special something that makes those legends stand out from the crowd. One of the best ways you can do this is to learn their parts -- beat for beat, note for note. While this can be difficult and time consuming, it's on …

How can you ensure you're making the most of your time in your singing lessons? Record yourself singing, so you can listen back on it later! Consider this advice from Hayward, CA teacher Molly R... Back when I first started voice lessons, my teacher always made sure before we got started that I brought my tape (this was the early '90s!) so that I could record the lesson. As both a student and a teacher, I certainly know the value in recording your voice lessons. When you record your …
