The piano is often referred to as the instrument every musician should start off learning. The way it is laid out makes it very easy to see how music works and fits together. In lessons, we'll be sure to cover all the basics of technique, rhythm, harmony and melody and even theory to ensure a solid foundation to build upon. I tend to teach these concepts through the use of various etude/method books as well as listening exercises to ensure a well rounded approach to learning in order to become a more well rounded musician.

Enjoyment and engagement precede technical study— always!
Why are you drawn to this instrument, piece of music, or performance situation? We will study all of the things you’d expect: scales, exercises, études, and repertoire. But I like to think I add more value than the notes on the page. And learning to play an instrument is all about reflecting your joy of playing it to the world! Precision is necessary but first is passion. This is why we always begin with enjoyment and engagement.
I consider the whole person I am teaching. I like to approach playing any musical instrument with the whole mind and body. You’ll learn how to most naturally hold and play your instrument with as much ease as if you were simply walking down the street. Only with ease can we play these instruments for life!

Brad is a phenomenal teacher, and can adapt to almost any situation. If I wasn't understanding something, he never got frustrated, he would find a way to explain it differently until something finally stuck. That's very important I think. I've had too many teachers give up and say, "If you don't get this, you never will." Brad doesn't think like that. To him, "just not getting it" isn't an option. If you want to learn something, he'll find a way to teach it to you."
Piano music doesn't have to be all classical, all the time! Here's what you need to know about getting started with jazz piano chord progressions, courtesy of St. Augustine, FL teacher Heather L... Thelonius Monk, Herbie Hancock, and Duke Ellington are just a few of the great jazz piano players. What beautiful and fascinating sounds fill our ears when their names come to mind! The seemingly illusive progressions and spontaneous elements, like syncopation and improvisation, sound vi …
