Recently graduated from Juilliard, I've been teaching violin and viola for five years, and welcome students of all levels and ages. My background is firmly classical, but additionally I also love fiddle music and give students songs from many genres to learn, arranging upon request. I'm currently a doctoral student at USC, and I work part-time locally as a violinist in the YMF Debut Orchestra. I am also glad to help students with recording, video editing and social media.

About Alexander

Alexander Cai Knecht, 29, completed a Doctor of Musical Arts at USC under full scholarship in 2018, where he studied with Brian Chen. He holds a master's degree from Juilliard, where he studied with Masao Kawasaki, and bachelors' degrees from La Sierra University, where he studied with Jason Uyeya

I really appreciated Alexander teaching me violin. He was basically my first instructor and he was always patient and motivating. He accommodated my unique needs as an adult beginner and brought me far in a short time. He was a little challenged to balance teaching with his heavy school load, but I appreciated his willingness to take the time to teach and help others.

I've been teaching singing and vocal performance for over four years. I utilize the Kodaly method for vocal performance, starting at the basic level of tonal scales (major, minor, harmonic, melodic, etc.) and Solfege application to serve as a foundational base; rhythm syllables such as "ta" and "doo". Additionally, foundational breath control is applied, as it is very important for the singer to learn how to control their breath and support their sound. From there, repertoire mimicry is applied, or what I call "phrase building," as it is important for any singer to be able to effectively create vocal phrases.

I specialize in flamenco guitar, one of the richest styles of guitar playing. The techniques and fundamentals of flamenco are valuable resources for any guitarist, regardless of genre or style. While everything is taught through the filter of flamenco, students will gain a wealth of knowledge applicable to the guitar in general.

One can expect to start by developing a full technical routine aimed at developing stamina, strength, precision, and speed. All fundamental techniques will be introduced, including arpeggios, rasgueados, pulgar, alzapúa, picado, trémolo, ligado, and golpe. Rhythm plays a critical role in flamenco and will be emphasized throughout. Harmony studies will be introduced where appropriate. Repertoire will be given according to each student's capabilities and tastes, including resources for accompanying dance and singing.

My own teachers have included master guitarists Pedro Sierra, Pedro Barragán, and Paco Cortés. I'm also influenced by the music of Paco de ...

Absolutely excellent flamenco guitar teacher. Very knowledgeable, impressive player, and comes well prepared with teaching material to each lesson.

I've been studying guitar for about 15 years, primarily jazz before I met Gustavo. I've never had an instructor that even comes close. He makes a difficult and seemingly inaccessible style of guitar accessible and fun! He's incredibly well educated, not only on the music itself but also on the history and culture of Flamenco; you're getting much more than just a guitar lesson. On top of that, he's also just a wonderful person.
Jeff
I have been gearing up for some extensive travel in Spain combined with some immersive flamenco guitar studies. Prior to studying with him, I had played various forms of guitar for several years but only had minimal exposure to true Flamenco styles. Gustavo has been extremely helpful in getting me ready for the experience with techniques, fundamentals, in-depth palos knowledge, rhythm and timing, interactions with Dancers and Singers, etc.. He is extremely knowledgeable and talented in all areas of Flamenco and he is very good at explaining it all to a non-native (extranjero) like myself! His depth of musical theory combined with in-depth experience studying in Spain make him a uniquely qualified Flamenco Guitar Instructor. This was my first experience with online instruction and within the first lesson, I felt like I had known him for months. I highly recommend studying with Gustavo no matter how much experience you have when you start this path!!

"She is the real deal

Ms. Brookins is the BEST teacher I've ever had
And a testament to that is that even though I was always bombarding her with question after question about the piano
She would always be calm and tell me "You got this dude" or "come on you can do it"
Cheesy as it may sound it worked
And as a final result of being with her for a year
I can play the music I want to play on the piano BY EAR!
Like seriously this review doesn't do her justice but of you want the best AND the nicest she is the best choice!"

If you need it, she gives you step by step instructions on what needs to happen, and how to do it, so listen closely!! Fawn can cover material quickly and thoroughly and she gets right to the point and is spot on. She's like a music ninja. Much respect for her!"

"Excellent Vocal Coach. Highly recommended.

I have been taking weekly lessons with Liza for over a year and would highly recommend her. I looked for a vocal coach after my first club gig as a front-woman for a rock band. Apparently I was not using my voice correctly as I was extremely hoarse following the performance. Liza taught me how to breath, stand & 'place' my voice (be aware of all of the muscles that create one's speaking & singing voice). Using her methodology, I am able to get through a full set without any vocal strain. She is a good communicator and a pleasure to work with. Thanks Liza!"

"I left a review as many have done at the beginning of my lessons on the site's request. I studied with Edwin for about two years through Skype, and wanted to evaluate the experience after it was completed. Edwin was a very polite and skilled teacher. He taught me many new techniques and different styles of jazz guitar that stick with me still, and which I use every day in my playing. I recommend him to anyone wanting to learn more about playing jazz guitar."

"I have had the pleasure of playing, and practicing, with Mr. Cris over the last few years. We actually took guitar class together in high school, and even then, I could tell that he was exceptionally talented. Given his family background in music, and his desire to create wonderful compositions, it was no surprise that he chose to pursue music in his life. Recently I have needed assistance with my songwriting and I have had no hesitation in bringing my work to Cris in order to gain insight into what I may need o do in order to successfully finish my composition(s). He is well educated in music, has learned from many accomplished professionals, and is extremely hard working in his craft. And finally, Cris is very patient, insightful, and motivated, when working, and/or teaching, individuals. I would highly recommend him to anyone of all ages."
