I noticed in my first lesson Tamera was throughly prepared with all the foundational info that I would need to be able to stand before walking. She was also mindful to allow me to sing as I normally would so she could correct my errors and therefore help me achieve my best potential

I am determined to develop the full potential of each student .It’s up to a teacher to interact with a student in such a way to discover the potential hidden talent . I truly enjoy to be part of each step in the learning process and helping students to achieve their musical goals .

Lesson Style :

I customize and plan my lessons for each student and therefor my teaching approach grounds students in Musical fundamentals and Piano Technics by combining ear training, Note reading, composition and performance exercises along with Repertoire ( Classical , pop
and some Jazz)

Lesson Details :
I begin by getting the student familiar with the piano, finger number positions, and gradually incorporate Music theory, ear training, note reading and Piano techniques along with Repertoire. I work a variety of methods some of which include Bastien Series, Alfred, Faber, Hanon, little Mozart and many others depending on the student’s age and wishes to what they like to achieve.

Additionally for younger children :
I incorporate a variety of enjoyable off bench musical activities during lessons to help them expand their creativity.

Students will be able to see progress on a weekly basis provided that they are practicing what they have learned in lessons on their own time.

Lessons for Adults :

Lessons are uniquely tailored to your goals We will go through warm-ups , music theory that will place emphasis on technique and then work through the repertoire to discover the joy of performing/playing music.

Piano Recital

I also organize performance opportunities and piano recitals for students and their families which is a great experience for both students and their loved ones. The purpose is that students could meet each other and observe others' accomplishments which provide great inspiration and joy to the students and their parents.

For Students who are interested in certificate programs :

I LOVE music. I started playing piano when I was younger, but I didn't like it because I felt like mum was making me practice and play--so I quit. A few years later, I found a dusty box sitting on the top shelf and found a beautiful ukulele. It turned out that dad had bought it over a decade ago during a trip to Hawaii and he hadn't played it much since. I was hooked from my first strum.

It's been six years since and I still can't put down my ukulele! I've participated in competitions, taught in music schools and even met my biggest idol: Jake Shimabukuro. I sympathize a lot with people who desperately want to play music, but don't know how to start. I had no clue where to begin when I started!

Along my musical journey, I also picked up beatboxing. That was arguably even harder than learning the ukulele, because so few people knew
how to do it. But I kept going, and navigated my way through hundreds of online videos and tutorials. I was obsessed. By my senior year in high school, I auditioned and was selected to the number one acapella group in my school as the beatboxer. I'm currently a beatboxer for an acapella group in university!

Everything I know about ukuleles and beatboxing comes from the internet and online tutorials. I'm a huge fan of self-motivated learning, but at the same time, it would have been such an amazing resource if I had someone to guide me along. I don't have a degree in music or anything, and I've never taken a music class in my life! I just know when I hear something good and know how to communicate that well to people who feel intimidated by scales, theory and chords.

I don't take anything too seriously, but I am seriously in love with music.

I'm a Brooklyn-based composer, conductor, arts administrator and general wearer of many hats, but I will always consider myself a teacher first! My approach to education is student-centric, goal-oriented, and practical. Every student regardless of their background or identity deserves equitable access to a quality music education that reflects their interests and aspirations.

I provide lessons and tutoring in a wide variety of music including piano, ear training, music theory, sight singing, composition/songwriting, arranging and orchestrating, diction, foundations of conducting, and love to mix and match these with each student, providing a practical working knowledge of these skills across any desired genre.

My current engagements include active work as a composer, conductor, and clinician with both professional musicians and in s
chools, as well as singing in multiple choral groups throughout New York City. I also am a staff member at the League of American Orchestras, supporting our work in the areas of knowledge resources, learning, and leadership. Outside of my regular schedule, I work as a consultant to several socially-oriented music groups including the Refugee Orchestra Project and Voices 21c, both located in Boston, MA.

I hold a Master of Music degree in Music Composition with a minor in Choral Conducting from the New England Conservatory as well as a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of Massachusetts Lowell.

I've had Derek as a conductor for a small string ensemble for about 5 years and he's truly the best anyone can ask for! He's great with young students and is amazing at motivating and explaining exactly what he wants out of musicians. His love and knowledge for music is extremely evident and that in turn encourages his students to strive to greater heights in musicianship.

About Steven
Steven has been teaching private music lessons for more than ten years. He plays and teaches piano, guitar, bass, ukulele, mandolin, banjo and voice. Steven has worked with students of all ages (ages 4-early 60’s) and just genuinely enjoys sharing the gift of music with any and everyone! Steven believes that we are students in life and even though he has been playing professionally for half of his life he still sees himself as a student and loves learning from his students as well.
Steven began his musical journey at the age of 7 taking private piano lessons. In his early teens he was introduced to the guitar where his love for music and music education came full circle. In high school Steven took AP music theory and was the first chair guitarist in his high school jazz band. Though Steven was accepted to Berklee College of Music and B
elmont university he ended up attending VCU. While at VCU he took private jazz guitar lessons under Mike Ess. During his college years he formed two successful bands (Bella Blue, and Steve Carter Connexion) and also joined the popular hip hop group Earthtone. All of these groups were comprised of other outstanding musicians that have gone on to pursue professional careers in music as well.

After graduating VCU Steven continued his path in music teaching private lessons, playing guitar in church, and being a member and “hired gun” for multiple funk/rock/and R&B groups in the DMV area. Currently he is the lead guitarist and a vocalist for the band Stonebrook which is signed with EastCoast Entertainment, and Dance Candy which is signed with Sam Hill Entertainment. Dance Candy has been the rhythm section for the living legend of tap dance Savion Glover since 2015. They have performed everywhere from New York City to Mexico City and countless theaters in between. In 2017 Steven released his debut solo album entitled “Soullow” which can be found on iTunes, Spotify, and Tidal. Steven believes that getting to share the gift of music and educating youth and adults is an honor and a privilege that he is forever grateful for.

i was born and raised in Clovis, California and I've been playing trombone for seven years. I graduated from Clovis North High School in June of 2019. I am comfortable with teaching all ages and all low brass instruments, aside from tuba (we'll get there eventually) I am currently studying Music Education and am looking to become a teacher and giving some starter lessons would be a great stepping stone for my teaching path and anyone seeking to Learn trombone for either themselves, or their children. I always try to maintain a respectful atmosphere when in an academic setting, but I like to crack my jokes and make sure all involved understand what is happening.

I actually do look forward to teaching someone and just getting to know some people and share my passion for music, go ahead and take a lesson, see how you like it!
