Alaina C. Roslindale, MA

About Alaina

ABOUT ME I began taking both voice and piano lessons at the age of 11, after years of sitting outside my older sisters' clarinet lessons and wishing to study music, myself. I fell in love with music at my very first lesson, and knew that it was what I would do with my life. I went on to attend New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, where I received my Bachelor of Music in vocal performance, and then onto Longy School of Music of Bard College, where I am currently working on my Masters in vocal performance and continuing piano as a secondary instrument. I am the co-owner of The Creative Musician and have experience teaching piano students ranging from 4-year-old beginners to experienced adults and voice students ranging from novices to conservatory-bound high-school seniors. I am

Great insight!

Alaina was such a great teacher! She was my teacher my senior year of high school and was really helpful. She picked out pieces that really showed off my voice and helped me get in to a good music school. Now that I am in college, Alaina has because a great friend and mentor to me! I am really lucky to have found her as a teacher. :)

A great experience with a skilled instructor

Above all else, Jimi knows what he's doing. His advice is exactly what I needed to improve me use of my voice. His knowledge of the human voice and various instructional methods is both broad and deep, and he draws on it effectively to give effective personalized advice.

Jimi is an endless wellspring of information and advice, and sometimes I want to do more singing and less listening. But when I do get to sing, I always find that the listening has paid off -- I'm improving fast, and it's because of his good teaching.

Aaron’s has been such a great teacher for my son – he is encouraging, optimistic, and a great listener. Aaron has been perceptive about what motivates Jasper and so he has found a great mix for each lesson of theory, technique, and fun exploration of new music concepts. He has adapted his style for where my son is on his learning journey so that he’s always moving forward and enjoying both practice and lesson time. From after the first day with Aaron he has always looked forward to going to his lessons. Since Aaron is an experienced and active professional musician, he shares what he knows is most important, practically and technically, across many music genres, and this suits my son’s curious nature. We feel really lucky to have found Aaron – he’s been positive, interesting, professional, friendly, and challenging. What else could you want in a teacher?

good all-around teacher

Aaron is a positive and inspiring instructor. He is very competent on the instrument (and I believe he is well versed in more than just bass guitar) and is a working musician. In my lessons he has attempted to guide me into territory I was unfamiliar with in a way that I can understand. Sometimes that has not been so easy, as with Modes, but he is willing to modify the lessons according to what I have wanted to learn and how easily I can absorb it. If there's something I'm not grasping, he tries to explain it in a different manner and with a little effort on my part, I can comprehend it. He definitely wants his students to learn and have fun, while also making it challenging.

I took drum lessons from Jon U. for a little over a year, and loved it. The only reason our lessons stopped is because he moved.

On our first day, Jon's first question to me was, "What do you hope to learn from me and these lessons?" I couldn't read music and I had no rhythm, and that's all I hoped to learn. I was in my forties, and wanted this to be a hobby; it was never going to be anymore than that, but Jon didn't treat this as boring or a waste of his time.

Jon was patient, professional, fun. And he was a *teacher.* Each time I mastered an assignment, he'd write me a more difficult one, and I learned more about music and became a better player than I ever thought I would.

Jon isn't just qualified to teach the mechanics. He has a Ph.D., and my favorite part of our lessons was simply discussing what's "behind" the playing: the theory behind it; what it means; viewing and contemplating what music is and what it means to us. How it changes us.

Good musicians don't always make the best instructors, but Jon U. is one of the rare ones. I can't recommend him highly enough.

I took lessons with Jonathan for about 2 years. I had never played the drums before and he did a great job of teaching me. His teaching style is great. He manages to make the dry stuff fun and keep your attention, and he is very willing to change up his plans to help you get to your goals.

The atmosphere during lessons is great as well. Taking lessons with Jon is very comfortable and relaxing, so it becomes very easy to open up and really get into the drumming.

Couldn't recommend lessons with him any more.

I have enjoyed my lessons with Ashley because:

1. Pace of instruction is perfect for my level (beginner) and available practice time (limited).
2. Ashley isn't simply teaching me how to play a song; rather she is improving my technique in this critical period where bad habits can still be changed.
3. Always on time (granted instruction is at her location but none the less this is appreciated).
