Patricia R.

Lexington, KY

About Patricia

I graduated from the University of Colorado with a degree in music education, K-12. Following I spent a year teaching piano and voice in England and then moved back to Colorado and opened a home studio. I have had the privilege to raise my daughter while working in the home as a music teacher. We later moved to Kentucky where I again started a home studio. I now have over 30 years of teaching experience, specializing in piano and voice lessons for beginners to advanced for students of all ages. I also have taught basic guitar.

My teaching style is very "laid back". I am a teacher who desir
es her students to learn and enjoy piano. The curriculum will be chosen individually for each student and if students are transferring from another teacher, they can use their current curriculum. Beginning students will learn the basics of piano and theory; intermediate students will advance their knowledge of playing and theory.

Students will be invited to participate in a variety of incentive programs throughout the year. We also preform 2-3 times a year at the yearly Formal Recital, Nursing home program, and our Christmas student program.

Hope to meet you soon. I would love to introduce you to the wonderful world of music!

Great instructor, very helpful, personable, positive, talented at singing herself, and flexible with scheduling! I am an adult student (with no previous singing experience) wishing to attain what I consider a decent singing voice and have been taking lessons for about 3.5 months now, and am well on my way!

About Zara

I believe lessons should be fun and motivating! I like to incorporate a variety of music and games and to teach my students how to teach themselves one day.

I earned a BM and MM in Viola Performance and Pedagogy. I have over twenty five years experience teaching private lessons as well as 10 years coaching chamber music and orchestra. I've also gained extensive performing experiences that have taken me to Canada, Japan, Israel, Jordan, and Egypt. I've performed both classical and rock styles and have been privileged to play with Johnny Mathis, Rod Stewart, Josh Groban, Clay Aiken, Mannhe
im Steamroller and the Transiberian Orchestra.

*** Lesson Details ***

Steven S.

Frankfort, KY

About Steven

I've been playing musical instruments for 35 years. As a child I started playing the trumpet, then other brass instruments. That love for music carried on into college, where I started singing for the first time. I loved performing, and developed a deep desire to get better in every aspect. So I started taking voice and piano lessons. Though I got a degree in something completely different, music was my preference and I started leading music programs full-time at churches. It was there that I saw an opportunity to teach others how to sing and play. I picked up the guitar so I can lead o
ur more modern worship services and began teaching that, as well. I was given many opportunities to lead music and perform all over the country and all the while, I kept honing my craft. I decided to go back to school for a second Master's degree in vocal performance. There I learned all about the anatomy of the voice, how to use it properly and to teach others to perform at their very best. I did a great deal of piano performance along the way and applied that style to all the lessons I teach. I've had students as young as 4 and as old as 77. It is never too early or too late to begin learning. I am extremely passionate about music and performance and will pass that spirit along to you, at whatever level you play and in whatever style you prefer.

*** Lesson Details ***
I'm a laid back teacher. You are paying for the time. If you want to spend that time learning one thing, I will pick up on that. If you are motivated and practice throughout the week, you will move along briskly and will become very proficient in a timely fashion. Because I teach music theory along the way, and because I know most people want to learn how to play "something useful" in the first couple weeks, I can get most people strumming or accompanying themselves on the piano in as little as two weeks! Vocalists will learn proper technique and will see an instant improvement in their tone, breathing, and posture. I also teach them how to use their voice to sing in harmony, as well as a lead instrument.

*** Studio Equipment ***
studio: piano, guitar amps, seating for parents

*** Travel Equipment ***
I will provide the curriculum. They need to provide their instrument.

*** Specialties ***
I can teach in any style. If I'm not familiar with it, I will become so in order to best serve my students.

The Anatomy of a Hit Pop Song [Infographic]
When you're learning how to write a song, looking at how other songs are structured can be a great place to start. Like looking at a map before you go on a roadtrip, checking out the basic elements of songs you love gives you a sense of how they were written and what you need to do to write a song of your own. If analyzing all your favorite songs sounds like a daunting task (it is), you're in luck. The Billboard Experiment wanted to know if there was a formula that could determine which songs
What Are Some Singing Software Options, and Can They Help Me?
The human voice is the most expressive “instrument” in the orchestra of sound that is music. Nothing can express or invoke the emotions of the listener like a beautiful voice! Of course, developing your vocal ability takes time and practice. It’s important to understand and develop proper breathing technique, pitch recognition, and range. The traditional method of learning to sing is to study with a qualified vocal teacher. A good teacher understands their students' strengths and weaknesses, an
Guitar Master's Guide: How to Hold a Guitar Pick
For a beginning guitarist, the proper pick-hold is one of the most important things to master right off the bat. Grip too hard or in the wrong position, and you could wind up tense, in pain, and with a bad sound. Hold your pick too loosely however, and it could fly out of your hand! Luckily for you, learning how to hold a guitar pick the right way is easy. Plus, once you master your guitar picking posture, it will be easier to learn more techniques down the road. Master Ukulele Chords: Your Guide to D, Dm, and D7
For many beginners, the D chord will be one of the first ukulele chords you learn how to play. However, you may not learn at first that the D chord can be played in several different positions, and in variations such as D minor (notated as Dm) and D seventh (notated as D7). Choosing the best position to play a particular chord during a song depends on its proximity to other chords in the song and the sound you want to achieve. When you are making chord changes, it always helps to choose the f
