I focus lessons highlighting any genre around technique. Cultivating one's technique establishes good habits regarding things like breath, and posture, which will help maintain a singers overall vocal health. In addition to classical repertoire I have experience working with musical theater, pop, jazz, soul, and country.
Let's make some music!!!
“Music can change the world because it can change people.” ―Bono
“Where words fail, music speaks.” ―Hans Christian Andersen
Here's the why and how: As an educator, I've had experience teaching both young children and adults in many settings, whether it be in a classroom, small group lesson, or one-on-one. I pride myself on providing lessons that are uniquely individual and foster a students strengths while also building on their weaknesses. The best part about being a music educator is that I get to share my love of music with all of my students. With that said, whether you are a beginner who's interest has been sparked, or you have aspirations of becoming a professional musician I can help you there!
Lessons are catered to each student and are conducted in a supportive environment where students ar
e encouraged to take risks, try new things, make mistakes, and most importantly be themselves.
I value the time I have with my students and expect each student to come prepared to each lesson with an open mind and willingness to work. With music, the best results come to those who put in 100% both during lessons and during individual practice time. This is key in any musical pursuit. Overall, I want lessons to be enjoyable while still maintaining a sense of progress for the student.
Here's a little more about me: In 2005 I made my operatic debut in Italy with Operafestival di Roma in their main stage production of Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro. While in Rome, I was also featured in Pergolesi's Stabat Mater. Over the years I've been featured as a soloist in other concert and oratorio works such as Villa-Lobos's Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5, Rutter's Requiem, and Mozart's Requiem.
Along with my classical training, I've taken on several roles in musicals such as, The King and I, Guys and Dolls, Oklahoma, and The Boyfriend. I am an honored NATS (National Association for the Teachers of Singing) competitor, Peabody Scholarship recipient, and Bland Music Scholarship recipient. Recently, I had the opportunity to work with the Richmond Philharmonic Orchestra on their spring and summer concert series and was asked to perform the National Anthem and God Bless America at Game 2 of the ALDS during one of the MLB's 2014 postseason games (Baltimore Orioles vs. Detroit Tigers). When I'm not singing, you may find me enjoying a run through the neighborhood, or enjoying some time with my cat CJ.
I earned both my undergraduate and graduate degrees form the Peabody Conservatory of Music of the Johns Hopkins University.

Chelsea is a tremendous teacher, with sympathy and patience for my absurd schedule and difficulty reading music.
March 25, 2019
I had a really great time and she explained so much to me that I wasn't really clear on.
February 27, 2019
I needed last minute coaching for an upcoming audition and was feeling unprepared and frazzled. Chelsea easily knew what I needed. She made recommendations, was wonderfully engaging, and her insight and ear highlighted some important tweaks that I would have overlooked in my haste to prepare. After just one session I felt clearer, calmer, and considerably more confident. Bonus: Chelsea is incredibly kind, fun to work with and makes you feel you already know one another. Chelsea has my highest recommendation
SINGING: During vocal lessons we will work on the musical style of your choice. Generally speaking, we will spend about half of the lesson working on breathing technique and vocal exercises suited to your style and skill level. The rest of the lesson we will work on applying technique to songs. If you would prefer to only work on technique during your lessons, that is fine too- just mention it!

For piano, when teaching in books, I normally go for the Faber! For guitar, various renditions of Hal Leonard, and for voice, The Rock and Roll Singer's Survival Manual. *** Specialties *** Mark Baxter (Steven Tyler, Steve Perry vocal coach) method- geared toward pop/rock/country/blues.
I work well with all types of beginner piano and guitar players and excel with people interested in learning how to write songs, learn chords and fun rock riffs.
Once again Missy's education of the mechanics of what the voice is doing is very helpful to me. I appriciate the atmosphere she continues to make for me. It enables me to grow in my comfort of making mistakes and learning from them instead of the mental gymnastics of, "It's not perfect, I quite". Her encouragement and teaching skills are helping me achieve far more than just a voice to sing with. Thank you!

I love that she is very real with me. I don't feel like she is telling me, "Good Job", when it isn't. She encourages when I am on point and helps me get through the tough spots. She is inovated and I appriciate the knowledge she shares about how the mechanics of singing works. vocal cords, folds, diaphram etc.

Missy is a great instructor when it comes to explaining how the muscles work together, how to focus on specific exercises that help to create the basis for good sound quality and the right muscle memory. She is an honest and truthful encourager.

September 15, 2017
Don was very kind, patient, and encouraging. He brought over a lot of his own materials so it was much less stressful trying to find things to do.
June 26, 2017
Don does an outstanding job! He is able to connect authentically my son and customized the lessons to fit his learning style and needs. Don has drawn so much out of him musically and has also built a community of students that play together. He makes the lessons fun and engaging. He has opened up my 7-year old to the joy of playing and performing and has helped create a love of music. I highly recommend Don as a music teacher.
I teach singers of all genres (country, classical, pop, bluegrass, rock…) to sing with confidence and freedom!
I have a M.M in vocal performance from the Chicago College of Performing Arts and have extensive operatic training. I teach a technique that allows the singer to sing with freedom, and access their entire range evenly. I also work with students to develop style, interpretation, languages, and acting ability.
I have extensively studied vocal performance for many years and continue to add to my own technique. I have a Master of Vocal Performance Degree from the Chicago College of Performing Arts. I have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology, where I extensively studied the anatomy of the voice. I am the founder of BAWS Studio where we train artists in all aspects of performance (singing, songwriting, recording, piano, and guitar). I previously worked for a recording studio (Sound Summit Studios in Naperville IL) where I teach voice and help singers record their music in the studio. I have previously taught at The School of Rock in Indianapolis Indiana. I have administered vocal lessons to every voice type at all different levels. Several of my students have recored albums and are currently performing all over the World.
I have a bachelors
degree in biology with a minor in art. After graduating college, I was a full-time high school biology teacher, volleyball coach, and director of the school musical. As a high school teacher, I learned first hand the kind of pressure and expectations that are placed on students in order for them to succeed. In college, I was the head student researcher on a two-year lab project. I took several upper level science courses including: biochemistry, calculus, organic chemistry, calculus based physics, cell biology, anatomy, and physiology. I studied marine biology in the Virgin Islands and am CPR certified.
*** Lesson Details *** Voice lessons with me are fun and effective. You can expect to hear improved technique from day one, eventually reaching your long term goals. I begin every lesson aligning the students voice through various vocal warm ups and exercises. We then work together to pick repertoire that will suit the singer's voice and they will enjoy singing. During a lesson we will also cover performance presentation, acting, diction, rhythm, musicality, style, and interpretation.
During tutoring you can expect a personalized plan based on your goals and aspirations. Since every student is different you can be assured we will come up with a plan that is designed just for you. I am a laid back tutor but will be sure to get the most out of you after our time together. Most students see at least a one letter grade improvement. My main goal for every tutoring session is student learning and comprehension.
*** Studio Equipment *** Piano, recording equipment, large collection of sheet music
*** Specialties *** I specialize in helping students find their true singing voice.
Phenomenal. Gets to the point, is great at demonstrating, and provides feedback you can work off of.

So far, lessons with Ben have been VERY good (and productive! I'm naturally a reserved person, but He has gotten me to push beyond my comfort zone (that is "be louder"), which in retrospect has also helped me build my confidence in other areas. So at this point I look forward to having lessons, because I am growing in my understanding of how to use this God-given gift; a gift that's meant to be shared (not hidden away in silence).
I love to sing, and so should you! In our singing lessons, I like to make the lesson specific to your individual needs and goals. We start with warm ups, focus on different techniques and styles, breathing/breath control, song choice, performance, and more!
Hi, I'm Bri! I'm a graduate of North Central College with a BA in Music (Emphasis in Composition and Percussion) and a minor in History. I absolutely love music, every single aspect of it. I love to make music a part of everybody's lives who want and need it. I want to help you with your musical needs. I have been playing percussion for 19 years, singing for 25, and playing piano for 20 years. I was a member of a recording and performing Chicago band, Oblio and Arrow, where I provided backing vocals and helped with the song arrangements. I am currently a member of Trip City Lights, an LA local funk/soul band, where I provide lead and backing vocals. I also record vocals for different artists hooks, jingles, choruses, and songs (covers and originals). I have also composed/arranged various pieces for ensembles, bands, vocal groups, choirs,
plays, musicals, commercials, etc. I've worked with folks locally in LA, and all over the world. I love what I do!
History has always fascinated me. The way our world has developed and changed and continues to evolve is amazing. Everything can be tied back to the past, and I feel it's important to take a look back, put yourself in that time, and really study how things were to help understand why things are the way they are now.
Crocheting and knitting are a couple of good habits/hobbies I picked up about 10 years ago. I sell scarves online and I'm always working on some sort of project. I will have you knitting and pearling with the best of them!
Music, history, crochet, and knitting....I'm your girl!

Hello! Thanks for visiting my Takelessons profile. Let me start off by telling you a bit about myself: I have been performing for over 25 years as a musician, acting since I was a small boy, and working consistently with public speaking, accent reduction and other presentational skills throughout my career. I started my musical education as a woodwind player and settled in to the wonderful world of singing over time. Music has opened me up to so many incredible opportunities from touring the world to performing in marvelous concert halls and working with some of today's most respected artists, as well as giving me the opportunity to expand my performance skills through acting in various plays, musicals, television, and film.
Performing has absolutely b
een my salvation! Throughout my life it has been a best friend and constant source of joy, and I share this gift with others so that it might help them to find the same joy. After more than 10 years of teaching, I have so many new experiences to draw from and share with my students. I spent nearly 10 years performing with Disney in California and abroad in their Tokyo Disney cast, and I must say that those experiences, vast and varied as they are, have given the word "performance" a depth that I couldn't have imagined. Those experiences have made me excited to dive into every lesson with fresh ideas that will mesh well with many tried and tested teaching techniques.
Originally from Los Angeles, I now reside in Orange County and I'm proud to have expanded my studio to serving clients all over the world with online lessons via Skype and FaceTime! I get such joy from sharing my experiences with a diverse group of people from so many walks of life. If you're interested in learning more about my lesson style, feel free to contact me and I'd be happy to talk with you about a plan to help you reach your goals!
For Students of Voice: Teaching Style
Over the past several years I have focused much of my personal growth on developing my ears' ability to pick out and pinpoint vocal “placement”, resonance, subtleties of timbre, changes in pitch, breath support, air speed and flow, pronunciation and diction, and in general, the way in which all of these work together to create style. From these assessments, I work with the student’s particular needs to address each area individually and based on the learning style of each person. To illustrate to the student their method as I see and hear it, as well as ways in which they might make changes to facilitate the ease of singing --be they changes of tessitura (range), length of phrase, tone color, the release of unnecessary tension etc.-- I make use of vocalise (vocal exercises), simile and metaphor, examples from recorded performances, demonstration, self assessment, and techniques to “trick” the voice into acting in a different way, in addition to videos, diagrams, and texts on anatomy and physiology. I feel that all of these tools provide a unique and personalized learning experience for each student.
As a International Recording Artist with over five CD's, and twenty five years experience teaching voice lessons in both private and public settings, I enjoy guiding singers of all levels in their chosen passion of music. Music is the window to the soul. Encouraging the gifts and talents of children of all ages is my passion. I have taught music for over 25 years, working with beginners all the way to professionals. I enjoy guiding a student to explore and find their passion in expressing themselves through song. I am also known as the alternative vocal coach, teaching all styes of music. Being a recording artist myself, and having performed for large and small audiences, I am able to teach and guide individuals and bands in stage performance. Many of my students move into songwriting as well, and they can do this on a one on one basis or in a group setting.

Teach technique- Vocal Production. and styles- Broadway, Classical, Pop, Jazz, Country
Greetings, my name is Kay. I have been singing and acting professionally since the age of 8. I started in Broadway Musicals and am presently an Opera and Sacred singer. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education and a Masters in Voice Performance. I have taught private voice lessons in New York City and southeast Wisconsin. My students vary in age from upper elementary to adult professional singers. These students are performing in schools, community theatres, professional dinner theatres, and professional stages in WI, Las Vegas, New York and L.A. The vocal technique I teach is unique and gives fast results. I love singing and helping other singers and actors reach their goals!
Kay seems very knowledgeable and has great experience!
April 6, 2019
I have been working with Kay for 4 years and have seen great improvement in not only my sound, but my technique, going from a frequent ensemble member, to being fortunate enough to be cast in leading roles, Kay has brought me a very long way.
April 5, 2019
Kay has been teaching me for about a year now and it has been a wonderful experience. She is always polite and kind when we meet, she is flexible with scheduling when the issues of life come up. Of course she is incredibly knowledgeable with vocal technique and the world of Professional Singing which is very helpful for someone like me who has little experience.
"He was very helpful in my voice range, I didn't even know how high or low I could go. He was very funny and nice. I am excited for our next lesson"
"She's absolutely Fantastic!"
"Customized instructions, to the point, and excellent listener
I am a beginning student with no singing experience. JoAnn has been my instructor for the p
ast several months. What I like about JoAnn is her attention to detail. She believes, for example, in starting with a strong foundation to build your singing voice on such as having proper breathing and relaxation techniques. More importantly, she is upfront about the importance of practice. This is the only way to get better. Thank you, JoAnn, for your encouragement and patience."
"My daughter Madison really enjoyed the lesson.
She opened up to Teresa which is hard for her."
"As an older student with some musical experience, Lynzi did a great job of targeting what I need to work on to improve my voice. I've got exercises to wor
k with at home and I'm excited for my second lesson. I was nervous for all of about 2 seconds; Lynzi quickly put me at ease."
"Tanisha is AWESOME
Tanisha- she knows what sheâs doing. I remember a saying that goes âThose who canât do, teachâ âsomething like that- but any
way, Tanisha, well, she both CAN DO and TEACH. She definitely knows her art and she would make sure that you learn yours too. She doesnât just stop at teaching you how to reach the notes; she will teach you how to own the notes, that is the way she teaches music. I never thought I could be even more passionate about singing than I already am until I met her. The passion that she brings with her is so captivating that she will, not only involve you, but engage you in what youâre doing. Her energy during the class is just contagious, it would really make you take on the lessons with enthusiasm and glee- not a dull moment with her but also she knows just exactly how to balance it with the right amount of strictness so you would really get the lesson in your head. . I remember the first time I spoke with Steve, the operator from take lessons telling me how Tanisha is actually quite far from my place but that I should go on and try the lessons because sheâs definitely worth the travel- well, I should really commend Steve too because he is so right, taking lessons with Tanisha is one of the best decisions I have ever made, maybe Iâll commend myself too for making that decision and if you make the same decision then I will commend you too ;p lol"
"Great teacher! Really knows what he's talking about and gives great examples to help better understand the exercises. Highly recommend."
"Christiaan is an awesome instructor. He guides me through the most informative and productive lessons! Highly recommend him to anyone looking to improve a
t any level!"
"Excellent and Patient Teacher
Denise is an excellent teacher. She is tremendously patient and wonderful to work with."
