I have taught Flute and Recorder over a decade in both personal and classroom settings. Several of my students have gone on to achieve gold medals in their solo and ensemble contests, and place within the IMA music competition.
Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to play a stronger, more supported sound and as time goes on you'll be able to expand your range beyond what you thought possible. I specialize in working with beginners, and have experience working with students new to braces, as well. Typically, I use the Rubank Flute Method book in addition to your school's band books.
As far as what age to start flute, I am firm in starting a student no earlier than the spring/summer before their 4th grade year of schooling. This is not to say that a child could not begin learning music earlier, but the arm length required to play flute is necessary to achieve success.
For recorders, I use various method books and pull from many additional pop song books as well. ...

I have been playing for 14 years, but am young enough to remember (and still feel!) the struggles of practicing and playing the flute. In addition, having taken 7 years of Music Theory and Ear Training at music conservatories, I can provide a great way for beginners to learn to read music as well as to hear it.
As a Suzuki teacher trained with the SAA, I have studied effective teaching methods that work for students of all ages and levels.
I will incorporate these aspects into your lessons:
-scales/technique
-articulation
-tone
-intonation
-vibrato
-rhythm
-musicality/being inspired
-how to practice/practice methods
Happy flute playing! :)
I am able to teach Flute at 4 locations:
- My Home Studio
- West 13th Street (Mannes School of Music)
- Your Home
- Online
