Learn Flute from a Certified Teacher with 10+ Years Experience

My flute studio is based around setting a strong foundation to achieve the student's goals. Each flute lesson is tailored to the individual students needs and adjusted as they progress. Whether you are picking up the instrument for the first time, are a student auditioning for all-county orchestra, or just want to improve your playing, I can help you achieve your ideal musical self! For beginner students, lessons will focus on tone production, breath support, reading skills, rhythm, and technical development to form a strong base for continued development. Intermediate students will continue developing basic technical skills and music theory knowledge. They will begin applying their knowledge to standard repertoire. By focusing on musical context, students will begin to learn the more advanced concepts surrounding interpretation. Advanced students will continue to refine these concepts and artistry. Lessons will focus on applying and interpreting the musicality of advanced repertoire from the common practice as well as preparing for auditions and advanced performances. All students will work on achieving their individual goals whether they are playing for pleasure or working towards auditions. I am happy to work with whatever method book the student is comfortable with but I will recommend materials based on the student's level. Some of my preferred books are the Blocki Flute Method books, the Flute 101 books, and Trevor Wye's series of books however, I am comfortable working with band books or any other material you may have. If you would like to begin playing flute and have not yet purchased one, I do have some recommendations on what to look for. Instruments to look for are carried at any reputable store. Some of these brands are Yamaha, Jupiter, Gemeinhardt, Armstrong, Pearl, Trevor James, Artley, and many others. While these are costly if purchased new, it is fairly easy to find a very good deal at a similar price if you do a little searching. Additionally, many of these brands make modified, smaller instruments for young children or people with disabilities. For very young children, starting on a fife may be something to consider. If you are unsure what to purchase, please send me a message and I will help you with the purchasing process or even recommend some instruments that are for sale online. I am an experienced music teacher and musician. I have been playing flute since 2009 and teaching for nearly as long. Lessons are catered to each individual's needs and goals. Send me a message to see if I am a good fit for you!

Samantha has been sharing her passion for music through private flute lessons since 2012. Currently, she offers private lessons virtually, in-home, or at her home studio in the vibrant city of Columbus, Ohio. With her guidance, numerous flute students have achieved remarkable accomplishments, such as winning auditions for esteemed all-state and all-county bands, delivering outstanding solo and ensemble performances with superior ratings, earning valuable college scholarships, and more. Samantha's journey began at Troy University in Troy, Alabama, where she received her initial training. Graduating Cum Laude in 2018, she obtained a bachelor's degree in Music Education. Throughout her time at the university, Samantha showcased her talents by performing in the institution's most prestigious ensembles, mesmerizing audiences with her flute and piccolo skills. She also collaborated with fellow students, organizing ensembles for additional performance opportunities. Furthermore, Samantha showcased her prowess as a professional performer, participating in both school-sanctioned events and community performances. Under the tutelage of Ms. Carol Franks and Dr. Heather Small, she honed her skills in classical flute, focusing on standard repertoire spanning major historical periods. Her studies encompassed the best performance practices and pedagogy from the American, Boston, and French schools of teaching. Samantha's passion for music theory and music history also flourished during this time, and she seamlessly incorporated knowledge from both disciplines into her flute studies. Following her graduation, Samantha returned to her hometown, Pensacola, Florida, where she embarked on a multifaceted musical journey. Not only did she establish a thriving virtual private studio, providing flute lessons to students around the world, but she also began teaching music to school students. For a year and a half, Samantha shared her expertise in general music at a virtual public school located in a bustling Virginian suburb near Washington D.C. Her students, ranging from kindergarten to graduation, benefited from her knowledge and guidance. During her tenure in this school district, Samantha actively pursued professional development opportunities related to the virtual classroom, consistently receiving highly effective ratings on her evaluations. In the summer of 2022, Samantha relocated to Columbus, Ohio, where she embraced a new challenge: teaching band and choir at an inner-city middle school. Her dedication and teaching methods have produced remarkable results, with her students consistently performing music at or above their grade level. Their versatility as young, budding musicians is a testament to Samantha's skill in nurturing their talents. To enhance her teaching abilities in the virtual realm and increase student engagement, Samantha recently completed a graduate-level course and earned certification from the National Virtual Teachers Association. Simultaneously, she embarked on a master's degree in education at Adams State University. In her continuous pursuit of excellence, Samantha balances her teaching, studying, and performance commitments in the classical flute domain within the vibrant Columbus, Ohio, metropolitan area. With teaching licenses in Alabama, Ohio, and Virginia, Samantha is a certified teacher who has actively pursued professional development opportunities in both in-person and virtual teaching. While she is trained in traditional education methods, Samantha has developed her unique teaching style, blending traditional techniques with content that aligns with her students' individual goals, interests, and preferred learning styles. This personalized approach ensures that each student receives a tailored educational experience, facilitating their growth and success. Samantha's experience extends far beyond geographical boundaries, having worked with students of all ages, skill levels, and diverse backgrounds from various parts of the world. From Panama to England, Japan to Mexico, Australia to Somalia, Samantha has guided and inspired students globally. With her vast experience and expertise, she eagerly looks forward to utilizing her skills to help you or your child achieve their musical aspirations.

Samantha is kind, patient, attentive and very knowledgeable. My daughter is 11 and raves about how great Samantha is, especially how gentle and sweet she is. This is important to my daughter since she tends to be very hard on herself. Samatha is a great fit for us and we would highly recommend her as an instructor.

    Self Employed

In 2012, I began teaching my flute flute student. She was six years old at the time. As a young flutist and teacher myself, this proved to have many challenges. She has become a wonderful young adult and is currently playing flute in her university's band. Ultimately, teaching this young girl is what led me to teach music as a career. During my time at Troy University, I began to tutor local middle and high schoolers on the flute. After graduating, my flute studio continued to grow and I began to teach online lessons. Over the years, I have watched my students achieve wonderful and impressive things and am honored to have been a part of their journeys.
